Your Weekly Reflection in Prayer

Weekly Prayer Reflection for Summer

“Jesus told His disciples, ‘If any want to become My followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross, and follow Me.'”
Matthew 16:24

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear John,
Many have the cross of suffering or poverty, or the cross of discrimination imposed upon them. Thousands in Haiti and in Somalia, for example, do not have access to medical facilities or to education. Jesus looks to His followers to reach out to help those in need. We are challenged to freely take up the cross of Christ, by a life of service and sacrifice. We freely choose the cross in order to free others from the cross imposed upon them.

May the Cross of the Son of God, mightier than all the hosts of Satan, and more glorious than all the hosts of heaven, abide with you in your going out and coming in. By day and night, at all times and in all places may It protect and defend you. From the assaults of evil spirits, from the snares of the devil, from all passions that beguile the soul and body, may the Cross of Jesus Christ guard, protect, and deliver you.
Amen.
