Hollywood Celebs Helped Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz in 2010
The Planned Parenthood abortion business reported making more than $1 billion in income in 2010, but they achieved that with a little help from their Hollywood friends.

Looking back on 2010, in its recently-released annual report, Planned Parenthood racked up a stunning number of celebrity endorsements from musicians, writers, actors and other big-named people.

JoAnna Garcia, best known for her portrayal of Cheyenne Hart-Montgomery on The CW sitcom Reba participated in an awareness campaign for Planned Parenthood that it co-sponsored with MTV, the Kaiser Family Foundation, and the Obama administration. She wasn t alone as celebrities like Big Boi, Joy Bryant, Flo Rida, Keri Hilson, Perez Hilton, Kid Sister, Benji and Joel Madden, Method Man, N.E.R.D., Redman, and Asher Roth joined her.

At an annual benefit for the abortion business, members of the show Private Practice donated a script to auction off signed by Paul Adelstein, Amy Brenneman, Tim Daly, Taye Diggs, Chris Lowell, Audra McDonald, KaDee Strickland, and Kate Walsh.

Kathleen Turner donated her book Send Yourself Roses for the event, Alan Cumming donated his book Tommy s Tales, and Jon Stewart donated tickets to The Daily Show. Heather Tom donated a tour of The Bold and the Beautiful set and lunch, while Bree Williamson treated winners of an auction to a private tour of the One Life to Live set and lunch. GOP Chair Candidate Cino: I m Pro-Life, But Helped Pro-Abortion Group
Republican Party chairman candidate Maria Cino became the final candidate for the national party chairman position to interview with the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life political group.

Her interview follows concerns from among pro-life advocates that Cino, who says at length that she is pro-life, served as a member of the board of directors of the WISH List, a pro-abortion organization that focuses on electing pro-abortion Republican women to top federal offices.

Cino also made several donations to WISH List over the years covering the late 1990s and the very early part of this past decade and SBA List president Marjorie Dannelfeser asked her about that.

Cino explained that she was involved with the National Republican Congressional Committee in the early 1990s following the defeat of pro-life President George Bush and that the NRCC struggled financially but weathered the storm in part because of donors from the WISH List. She credited the pro-abortion organization with ironically helping to elect a Republican Congress in 1994 that was a majority pro-life. Full story at LifeNews.com

MTV: Call It What You Want, It s Still Abortion
by Father Frank Pavone
Watching No Easy Decision was very much like watching a typical day in my life, because in my full time pro-life ministry, my team and I minister around the world to men and women who are struggling with their pregnancy, and also with men and women who have been through the abortion experience.

It is certainly no secret to us, to the Church, or to those who work in the pro-life movement that these decisions are not easy. It is also no secret that women do not get abortions because of freedom of choice. As this program illustrated, they get abortions because they feel they have no freedom and no choice. They do not celebrate abortion as an advance of freedom. Full story at LifeNews.com

Democrat Who Started Latest Death Panels Row Regrets Email
The Democrat who started the latest national debate over the inclusion of so-called death panels by the Obama administration into federal regulations now regrets doing so.

The office of Representative Earl Blumenauer, an assisted suicide advocate from Oregon who works closely with pro-euthanasia groups like Compassion and Choices, alerted supporters of the change the Obama administration implemented and worked to ask them to keep the news quiet.

We would ask that you not broadcast this accomplishment out to any of your lists e-mails can too easily be forwarded, his staff wrote. Thus far, it seems that no press or blogs have discovered it but we will be keeping a close watch and may be calling on you if we need a rapid, targeted response. The longer this [regulation] goes unnoticed, the better our chances of keeping it. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Professor: Concerns About Death Panels Overhyped
Not everyone in the pro-life movement is on board with the concerns about the death panels the Obama administration recently instituted, as one professor says they are overhyped.

Warren Throckmorton is an associate professor of psychology at Grove City College in Pennsylvania and fellow for psychology and public policy with the Center for Vision & Values.

As LifeNews.com has reported, the Obama administration recently instituted new regulations in the implementation of the ObamaCare law that were removed when Congress debated them because of an outpouring of opposition led, in part, by Sarah Palin. Full story at LifeNews.com

Washington Post Misleads Readers on Abortion Availability
Has The Washington Post ever traveled to Iowa? Obviously, yes for presidential caucuses. But on Friday, Post reporter Sandhya Somashekhar accepted the bizarre premise of abortion advocates that abortions are virtually impossible in rural Iowa.

No one owns a car?

The story centered on a new pro-life cause, protesting the provision of RU-486 abortion cocktails over the Internet. Liberals can get upset about selling booze on the Internet, or the spreading of Obama slurs on the Internet, but the marketing of death pills online is a precious human right. The Post published this silly sentence. Full story at LifeNews.com

Nevada Personhood Amendment Loses Case at Supreme Court
The personhood amendment some pro-life advocates in Nevada hoped to get on the ballot has lost in a case decided by the Nevada Supreme Court.

The state high court rejected a lawsuit filed by amendment backers saying the 2010 election year is over and there is no reason to continue the case. The Thursday decision said the court case, originally filed by Planned Parenthood against having the amendment appear on the ballot, is moot because the elections are over.

Planned Parenthood won at the lower court level and amendment supporters filed an appeal taking the case to the state Supreme Court. In January, a judge said the language was too broad and violated a state law saying ballot measures can t cover more than one subject.

Carson City District Court Judge James Russell issued the ruling siding with the ACLU and Planned Parenthood. The pro-abortion groups say the five-paragraph description of the measure does not say that the end result would ban abortions. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Launches ‘Social Change Initiative’ to Teach Parents How to Educate Children About Sex, Including Masturbation, Homosexuality

She wasn’t alone as celebrities like Big Boi, Joy Bryant, Flo Rida, Keri Hilson, Perez Hilton, Kid Sister, Benji and Joel Madden, Method Man, N.E.R.D., Redman, and Asher Roth joined her.

Kathleen Turner donated her book Send Yourself Roses for the event, Alan Cumming donated his book Tommy’s Tales, and Jon Stewart donated tickets to The Daily Show. Heather Tom donated a tour of The Bold and the Beautiful set and lunch, while Bree Williamson treated winners of an auction to a private tour of the One Life to Live set and lunch.

Walsh, the actress known for her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery on the ABC dramas Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice and a member of Planned Parenthood’s Board of Advisors, sent out a specific fundraiser for Planned Parenthood over Twitter this month.

Amber Tamblyn, who had a starring role on the television series Joan of Arcadia, discussed her role as a Planned Parenthood spokesperson in an April interview in New York Magazine. Olympia Dukakis, cousin of former Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, and Julianne Moore, the soap opera and movie actress, spoke at the Planned Parenthood Leadership Council reception during the Art 20 event in New York City.

Hector Elizondo lent his name and photo and provided a quote in support of an initiative by the abortion business to target Hispanics while Blythe Danner and daughter Gwyneth Paltrow continued their longstanding fundraising for the abortion business.

Carol Leifer, the comedian, spoke about her work with Planned Parenthood on the Bill Maher Show and Aisha Tyler, known for her regular role in the first seasons of Ghost Whisperer and Archer, also spoke for Planned Parenthood.

Judy Blume and Cynthia Nixon lent their names to Planned Parenthood fundraising appeals in honor of Mother’s Day and received significant criticism in doing so while BETTY’s Amy Ziff donated a table to Planned Parenthood at her performance in New York City.

Gretchen Peters performed her song “Independence Day” and announced she would donate the royalties to Planned Parenthood at an event attended by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now fame. Rachel Kauder Nalebuff, author of My Little Red Book, donated proceeds from her advance to Planned Parenthood and its Planned Parenthood of Connecticut affiliate.

Earlier this year, four actors from the acclaimed television series Law and Order: Criminal Intent recorded a video endorsing the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. They specifically endorse its efforts to force Americans to pay for abortions in a government-run health care plan.

Actors Eric Bogosian, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Julianne Nicholson lend their faces, voices and names to the pro-abortion effort and specifically endorsed taxpayer funding of abortions and abortion coverage in health care insurance.

Dr. Kenneth Edelin, David Eigenberg, Jane Fonda, Janis Ian, Shelby Knox, Wendie Malick, Regina Spektor, Heather Tom, and Kathleen Turner are some of the other celebrities Planned Parenthood cited in its report as providing financial and promotional support during the year.

Also, Planned Parenthood gave awards to The CW Television Network, Deborah Kotz of U.S. News & World Report, editors and writers of Glamour magazine, and Jennifer Wolff Perrine of Self magazine.

These people are so blind, they have their heads in the sand. Human life is sacred and we have no right to destroy it! We're praying for the conversion of all pro-aborts. May the Divine Mercy be in their souls!

Pro-Life Leaders Want Congress to Overturn Death Panel Regs
Leaders in the pro-life community are angrily responding to the news that the Obama administration added death panels to the ObamaCare implementation.

They are calling on Congress to take steps to repeal the new regulations Obama officials put in place that they worry will give financial incentives to doctors to hold end-of-life discussions with patients that will lead to the rationing of their medical care. Doctors will instruct patients in the annual voluntary exams to write advance directives listing the kind of treatment they wish to receive or not receive if they are unable to make their own medical decisions.

Although the advanced directives apparently can t be used to facilitate an assisted suicide, there is concern physicians will pressure or persuade patients to make decisions that would ration care or withdraw lifesaving medical treatment.

Dr. Janice Crouse, of Concerned Women for America, told WorldNetDaily, Those of us who voted in common-sense representatives to take control of the House will be expecting to see reversals of regulations like these that run roughshod over the will of the American people. Full story at LifeNews.com

Post-Abortion Women Saddened by MTV No Easy Decision Show
Women who have had or work with women who have had abortions are reacting to the contorversial MTV show, No Easy Decision, featuring a teenage girl s abortion decision.

They represent the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and they say they and other post-abortive women reacted with sorrow and disappointment to the show, which showed an abortion business misleading women about the development of the unborn baby.

My heart broke for Markai, not just for her difficult situation, but for the lack of counseling she received, said Georgette Forney, a co-founder of the group who has had an abortion of her own.

This abortion decision was driven by economics, but no one told Markai about the help available to her from pregnancy resource centers. No one told her that this didn t have to be Sophie s Choice, having one child die so the other could live, she told LifeNews.com. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Launches New Sex Ed Program for Kids
The Planned Parenthood abortion business is continuing its mission to attract more eventual customers but using sexual education to build relationships.
As they have in the past, the abortion giant is seeking to push comprehensive sexual education on young people, and now it is taking the campaign further with a push to reach children. As CNS News reports in a new article:

Specifically, Planned Parenthood s Web site announced the group is preparing to launch a nationwide social change initiative to end the stigma and shame about sex in American culture. The project aims to teach parents and caregivers how to educate children about sex from birth. And it recommends telling teenagers about masturbation, oral sex and where to go for help to prepare to be sexually active.

The Real Life. Real Talk initiative began as a pilot program in communities in Maine, New York, Connecticut, and Arizona between 2004 and 2008, according to a report about the initiative that is for sale on the project s Web site.

Now Planned Parenthood is preparing to launch the program nationwide, with funding from donors and private groups, including The Ford Foundation. Full story at LifeNews.com

Republican Chairman Michael Steele Confirms Pro-Life Views
Republican Party chairman Michael Steele confirmed his pro-life views in a new interview with the Susan B. Anthony List as he faces several candidates looking to replace him.

The pro-life group has already conducted interviews with other candidates who confirmed their pro-life principles.

Steele said he wouldn t do too much differently in terms of his role as chairman in advocating pro-life issues and he defended his role in advocating the pro-life platform, saying that the GOP got away from pro-life principles in past elections before he took over as chairman.

He said his role as chairman has ensured that Republican voters have their say in a primary with candidates of a differing perspective on abortion and that the party comes into play in the general election supporting GOP candidates that become the nominee.

Steele, the former Maryland Lt. Governor, is pro-life but raised eyebrows in the pro-life community in an interview with GQ, where Steele said he thought women have, according to the interviewer, a right to choose abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Republicans Eye Five Senate Races in 2012 Affecting Abortion
Republicans are already eying five Senate races in 2012 that they say involve incumbent senators who may have a tough time winning re-election bids.

While most of the attention in the next election cycle is already focused on the massive presidential race and the Republican nomination that will ultimately produce a candidate to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, the Senate is another key focus for pro-life advocates.

With the Supreme Court potentially one vote away from reversing Roe v. Wade and its allowance for virtually unlimited abortions, a pro-life president and pro-life Senate is needed to confirm a justice who could become the fifth vote.

Ron Jesmer, the director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told CNN that races in Montana, Virginia, Nebraska, Florida and North Dakota are ones where Democratic senators could be replaced with Republicans. Four of the states have pro-abortion members up for re-election while Nebraska has Ben Nelson, who is pro-life but upset pro-life advocates when he voted for the abortion-funding ObamaCare bill even after his amendment to stop the abortion funding in it fell short. Meet Some of the Real Pro-Life Heroes: Choosing Life
by Maura Butler
During this Christmas season I have had the blessing of being introduced to some real pro-life heroes. No, not the kind who work on Capitol Hill fighting legislative battles, or who pray outside abortion clinics.

They are the kind who, in difficult and sometimes tragic situations take a good look in the mirror and who choose Life for their children: real moms and dads who did not succumb to the pressure. And heroes who support these men and women, who provide an environment and a real, life-giving and life-altering choice: Life.

I received an email from the aunt of a college-aged girl who had decided she was going to have an abortion. She and her boyfriend, although in a loving relationship, had not planned to have a child in their lives right now. She felt abortion was her only option, and felt pressure from her boyfriend, although he himself was being pressured by his peers. She even had an appointment scheduled. She had decided to through with it. Prayers were said and support was offered to them by family, friends and strangers. Full story at LifeNews.com

Oregon Catholic Group Stops Using United Way Over Planned Parenthood
The Catholic Community Services Board in Eugene, Oregon has stopped using the United Way as a charity partner through which it can receive donations because of ties to Planned Parenthood.

The Lane County United Way gives funds to Planned Parenthood, the nation s largest abortion business that does more than one-quarter of all of the abortions done annually in the United States. Also, some Oregon Planned Parenthood centers have begun distributing the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug that has killed dozens of women and injured more than 1,100 women in the U.S. alone since 2006, according to the FDA.

In 2010, funds obtained through the United Way accounted for $71,000, or 4 percent of the budget of the Catholic organization. The money it had received had been designated for food and shelter services for poor and homeless residents of the area. Full story at LifeNews.com

Texas Legislators Promote Bill for Ultrasounds Before Abortions
If a woman is going to have an abortion, shouldn t she at least be given all of the information she needs to make an informed decision beforehand?

That s the question two Texas legislators are asking, and they say the answer is ensuring women are given information about their unborn baby that abortion centers normally don t provide beforehand. Although women getting abortions most often have an ultrasound to determine gestational age, they don t necessarily get a chance to view it.

Sen. Dan Patrick, a Houston Republican, and Rep. Rep. Geanie Morrison, a Victoria Republican, are behind a bill in the Texas legislature that would change that.

Vermont, Montana Lead Battles Over Assisted Suicide in 2011
Vermont and Montana will form ground zero for the debate over assisted suicide in 2011 as legislatures in both states are expected to tackle bills related to the subject. Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition is closely following the machinations of both legislatures and he provides further insight.

The newly elected governor of Vermont, Peter Shumlin, is committed to legalizing assisted suicide in that state, he said.

Shumlin told the lobbying arm of the pro-assisted suicide group Death With Dignity: As Governor, I will strongly champion death with dignity legislation. I have been a sponsor of this legislation for multiple years and I have a track record of bringing people together to get tough things done. Full story at LifeNews.com

UN Sneers But Teen STAR Abstinence Program Gets Results
Nothing gets the debate burning hotter at the UN than one over sex education for children. Last Fall conservative UN delegations angrily protested a report claiming for children a new right to comprehensive sexuality education.
At another meeting last year, when the Holy See promoted abstinence-based programs, liberal delegations met the proposal with sneers and laughter.

While some at the UN sneer, an innovative abstinence-based education program is seeing results. Dr. Hanna Klaus, a medical missionary nun and veteran OB/GYN, developed the Teen STAR program that educates adolescents about their fertility with natural family planning techniques. Admitting Abortion Takes an Innocent Human Life

Walter HoyePastor Walter Hoye, a remarkable champion of preborn children, has frequently reminded his audiences that when anyone compromises the life of a single preborn child, the battle is doomed to fail. He examines the alleged partial birth abortion ban with his core philosophy as the measuring stick and challenges us to do better in 2011. Can we learn from our previous mistakes? Pastor Hoye tells us what is at stake.

'Super death panels' on a 'massive scale'
World News Daily
Angry pro-life leaders are calling on the incoming 112th Congress to revoke a new Obama administration regulation resuscitating "death panels," which were rejected by the last congress after a public uproar threatened the passage of the president's signature health care bill. At the request of several Democratic lawmakers, the administration quietly slipped language into a Medicare regulation paying doctors to provide "end-of-life" consultations with patients. Doctors will instruct patients how to write "advance directives" listing what types of treatment they wish to receive, or not receive, if they are hospitalized in such poor condition that they are unable to make health care decisions. The new regulation was revealed by the New York Times on Dec. 26. The regulation will go into force Jan. 1.
MTV's Teen Abortion Sales Pitch: It's Just "A Ball of Cells"
Real News Blog
In July of this year, leftist Feminists were openly, and proudly, rooting for an abortion to be portrayed on prime-time television. On Tuesday night, they got their wish. MTV ran a special called "No Easy Decision", in which Markai, a girl who had previously appeared on 16 and Pregnant, learned that she was pregnant again. And she terminated the pregnancy baby's life.
White House attempts to quiet revived talk of 'death panels'
The Hill
The Obama administration is trying to quiet talk about so-called "death panels" after The New York Times reported Sunday that a new Medicare regulation includes incentives for end-of-life-care planning. The Medicare policy will pay doctors for holding end-of-life-care discussions with patients, according to the Times. A similar provision was dropped from the new healthcare reform law after Republicans accused the administration of withholding care from the sick, elderly and disabled.
Catholic Medical Association Supports Bishop Olmsted
Catholic.org

The decree by Phoenix Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted that St. Joseph's Hospital can no longer be considered authentically Catholic is a momentous moment in the history of the Catholic health care ministry in the United States. It represents a significant step by a bishop to exercise his legitimate role as teacher and defender of the faith in his diocese as well as an unfortunate refusal of hospital officials to respect the bishop's role as a teacher and pastor.

Bishop Thomas Paprocki Admonishes His Governor

Catholic Politicians “. . . Are
Accountable to Catholic Authority”

Bishop Thomas Paprocki Admonishes His Governor

Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki Bishop of Springfield – “This is a an official press release by the Most Reverened Bishop Thomas John  Paprocki.”

After the Illinois House of Representatives approved legislation that would require the state to recognize same-sex unions, Governor Pat Quinn was quoted as saying, “My religious faith animates me to support this bill.” He did not say what religious faith that would be, but it certainly is not the Catholic faith. If the Governor wishes to pursue a secular agenda for political purposes, that is his prerogative for which he is accountable to the voters. But if he wishes to speak as a Catholic, then he is accountable to Catholic authority, and the Catholic Church does not support civil unions or other measures that are contrary to the natural moral law.

“So many hardened hearts”

Family Planning Associates, Miramar Road, San Diego, Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010

News from the Trenches

The Thursday before Christmas was a "make-up" day, a day not normally open for abortions, so the abortionist would not lose any money from being closed on Christmas.

We had eight prayer warriors and three sidewalk counselors, hoping and praying for a Christmas save. It was only two days before Christmas and we thought that surely FPA would be very slow and perhaps the women going in would be open to life. It was quite the opposite today. It was unbelievably busy. Anne was met with so many hardened hearts that she could hardly put into words the sadness she felt by the end of the morning.

She was able to talk at length with three couples. The first couple she approached as they were exiting their truck. They were both very quiet but seemed interested in listening. She talked first about the doctor's record and then asked how far along the young woman was. The woman said 10 weeks. Anne showed her a picture of a 6-week-old preborn baby and the woman began to cry. Anne told her what she was about to do this Christmas would haunt her every year at this time, and that surely she should reconsider what she was doing.

After the conversation, the couple went back into their truck and stayed there for almost 30 minutes. However, many cars came in, parking right by them, with couples walking into FPA. This seemed to help affirm their decision to get back out of their truck and go into the mill. How sad for this young couple that they will never know the face of their child on this earth.

The other two couples she was able to speak with were Asian, and both remained intent that the only solution was abortion because of the pressures of family members. One couple told Anne their culture is different, and they had to listen to her mother and have the abortion, or she would be removed from the family. Anne told them about adoption and doing what is right over what family thinks. They remained unmoved and went into the abortion mill. Anne gave the last girl a hug and could see she was crying.

A short while later Anne was met with rude comments and bad language from a few other couples she spoke to. It was a sad day to witness these couples so removed from this most holy season.

David spoke with a young man standing outside of a car that had just arrived with a couple still inside. All three were white, in their early 20s. The young man said he felt like vomiting, and that if it were his girlfriend, he would never bring her for an abortion. David ran back to get some brochures and returned to talk with the couple as they exited the car. He told them about the risks of an abortion, and they brazenly scoffed at David's comments, saying that there was risk in driving and other everyday activities. He told them the memory of having an abortion would ruin every Christmas for the rest of their lives. At this, the boyfriend became agitated and told David, "Get out of here before I whip your --- !"

David calmly said that he was just trying to warn them about the regrets they would have, and then walked away as the couple went up into the mill. He spoke with several other women throughout the morning, but all were impatient and not open to what he was telling them.

Roger spoke with an African American couple in their mid- to late 20s who arrived in a newer truck. The boyfriend would not roll down the window, but cracked the door open a little so he could listen. He gradually opened the door all of the way so they could both hear when Roger told them of the litigation history of the abortionist. He asked how far along the woman was, and the man said, "I don't know, a couple of months, I guess." He showed them a picture of a 6-week-old preborn baby, and told them how the abortionist and his staff would lie to them, telling them it was nothing but a blob of tissue.

MADRID, SPAIN - MARCH 29: A placard reads 'No...

Image by Getty Images via @daylife

When asked why they were coming for an abortion, the man said his girlfriend already had a son, and that they did not want another child. Roger told them that the most important thing in life was family, and that they would always regret having an abortion, especially just before Christmas, and that he would always wonder about his child that should have been. He told them to think about what it would be like a few years from now watching her son and their new child playing together. The man was beginning to tear up when two cars pulled in behind them in the driveway, blaring their horns. Roger ran ahead a few feet and motioned the couple to pull into a parking space so he could continue talking with them, but the boyfriend took the opportunity to speed into the parking lot. They quickly exited the truck and walked up into the mill.

Roger spoke with a white mother-daughter at the driveway. The mother wore a forced smile and nodded as if humoring him in order to avoid any confrontation. Roger explained the litigation history of the doctor, the fact that the head nurse is on probation for narcotics abuse, and how the risks of having an abortion would be compounded at a place like FPA. She immediately flipped over the picture of the 6-week-old preborn baby that was handed to her to conceal it from her daughter, and denied that the young woman in the passenger seat was her daughter. The daughter said, "Oh, I'm not here for an abortion." While still smiling, the girl's mother said, "OK, thank you, we have to go now," and they drove in and parked. A short while later the girl's mother drove away, leaving her daughter in the mill, and gave Roger another plastic smile on the way out.

A sad irony of the morning was seeing a large truck drive up and park right in front of the mill with the sign "Angelica" written in large letters on the outside, next to pictures of doctors and nurses. For a fleeting moment we though it might be some bold, Christian mobile ultra-sound vehicle parking right there to intercept women. But it was just a medical linen supply company.

By the end of the morning we realized that perhaps our prayers may have been answered in a way not revealed to us. Young mothers-to-be who found God's love in their hearts just before Christmas, and stayed home this morning. Perhaps couples who got into their cars and turned around before reaching their destiny. While there was great sadness here this morning, there was no doubt joy and relief elsewhere in the hearts of young couples. God hears our prayers.

-- Anne, David, and Roger

Phoenix fallout

(Editor’s Note: The following are excerpts from a Dec. 23 story published in Catholic San Francisco, newspaper of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.)

San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer "intends to initiate a dialogue" with the leadership of Catholic Healthcare West regarding questions raised by Phoenix Bishop Thomas Olmsted over CHW affiliate St. Joseph's Hospital's compliance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services used by the U.S. bishops to govern moral choices in Catholic health care.

The Archdiocese of San Francisco announced Archbishop Niederauer's involvement in a statement Dec. 21, which followed Bishop Olmsted's decision that St. Joseph's can no longer identity itself as Catholic because of noncompliance with the directives. Pro-Life New Year s Resolution: De-Fund Abortion, Planned Parenthood
When it comes to making New Year s resolutions, pro-life organization have one they definitely intend to keep: pressing for bills in Congress to de-fund abortion and Planned Parenthood.

This is the time of year when we look forward to a new year with hope and anticipation. It s the perfect time for making a list of resolutions to achieve greater life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, says Americans United for Life president Charmaine Yoest.

Saying the new pro-life controlled House of Representatives presents opportunities opening up for the mission of defending life, Yoest says her group has very specific plans to work toward advancing our resolutions.

Number one on our list? Defund abortion HQ: Planned Parenthood, she said. Congress could give taxpayers a gift by defunding Planned Parenthood. Eliminating their yearly federal subsidy of over $300 million should be one of Congress top priorities.

She says the abortion business has a fundamental disconnect with the heart of most Americans, where the majority of us embrace unborn children in the womb as a gift, wrapped and hidden until the birth-day of celebration. Nothing compares to the joy a mother feels when she meets her child for the first time. Full story at LifeNews.com

MTV Show No Easy Decision a Reminder Abortion Industry Misleads Women
by Laura Echevarria
The program followed one of the teens, Markai, from the show 16 and Pregnant after she found out that her birth control method failed and she was pregnant for a second time in less than a year. The show included interviews by Dr. Drew Pinsky with two young women who also made the decision to have abortions. In promotional materials MTV said the special report would show the devastating effects of facing such a decision.

One of my concerns before watching the show was that it would document the effects of facing an abortion decision but not the after-effects of the abortion itself. And while it turned out to be true, I think Markai s decision and some of the comments made reveal more about the abortion industry than pro-abortion groups would care to admit.

Markai is uncertain what to do and knows she has three options : adoption, give birth or have an abortion. While she says abortion is not her first choice, but both she and her boyfriend James recognize that they had a rough time getting to the point in their lives where they can provide for their daughter. James, in particular, recalls what it was like as a child to grow up without water, electricity and sometimes food in the house and he doesn t want to do that to their daughter. Because the decision affects Markai more because of her plans to attend college, James says that maybe she should talk to someone else and get another opinion.

While at a friend s house to discuss the issue, Markai calls an abortion clinic and the staff person talks to her about the abortion methods available. This staffer comments that during a pill-induced abortion the pregnancy tissue would be expelled. During the discussion, Markai gets upset and has to hand the phone off to her friend. Status of Democrats for Life Questioned After Pro-Life Criticism
The status of Democrats for Life of America is in doubt after the organization spent the year coming under fire from numerous pro-life groups for its role supporting ObamaCare.
The organization was the only pro-life group to support the bill, which allows abortion funding and has rationing concerns, and it maintained weak abortion funding limits in the legislation were sufficient to allay the concerns hundreds of other pro-life groups presented.

Democrats for Life came under additional criticism for its public attacks on several pro-life groups relating to the legislation and its participation in supporting a complaint Congressman Steve Driehaus, a pro-life Democrat who voted for ObamaCare, filed against the Susan B. Anthony List. The complaint would have fined the pro-life group and put its president or staff in prison for telling the truth about Driehaus vote in a billboard campaign.

The organization also was rebuked by pro-life advocates for disclosing private and sensitive email communications in supporting the complaint and some pro-life organizations pledged they would no longer work with DFLA officials or its executive director, Kristen Day.

Today, the website of Democrats for Life no longer functions and a phone number previously associated with the organization does not mention it. Full story at LifeNews.com

State Health Care Compact an ObamaCare Repeal Idea
Next year, Republicans in Congress will float their legislation to repeal ObamaCare, though some suggest the legislation is not likely to succeed in overturning the controversial law.

With President Barack Obama still in office and Democrats controlling the U.S. Senate, an expected bill approved by the newly-minted prolife Republican majority in the House of Representatives would place pressure on Obama and Democrats leading up to the presidential elections but not likely be approved by either one.

Keeping that problem in mind, Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes has a different approach he suggests could be a third option in addition to the multiple lawsuits that are making their way through federal courts for rolling back the pro-abortion, pro-rationing law. Full story at LifeNews.com

Youth Pro-life Leaders Respond to MTV s Abortion Episode
by Bryan Kemper
For weeks we have been hearing about the MTV special that would feature a teen couple contemplating abortion. We were tempted to write about this show last week but decided to wait until the show aired. We know that MTV is no bastion of decency or truth, but we did not think the show would actually go as far as it did. We were wrong.

One very telling feature of the show was that it played without commercial interruption; this is not normal for MTV. This show was obviously funded by some one or some organization with an agenda; a very deadly agenda.

To be honest it felt like this was almost scripted as the perfect pro-abortion propaganda film. The couple was young, poor, and volatile; and they also already had one baby. They talked about God and the father had a Jesus tattoo on one shoulder and was wearing a necklace that looked like a rosary. They could have made it an extreme case, but they kept it simple; I don t think they could have cast a better couple for this show to make the audience sympathize with their decision to kill their child. Bob Casey s Weak Pro-Life Record Means Tough Re-Election
Senator Bob Casey was supposed to be the pro-life Democratic champion in the style of his father that the pro-life movement needed for a bipartisan attack on abortion.

But, to pro-life advocates in Pennsylvania, he has been a colossal failure because of his frequent votes against the pro-life position on key legislation and amendments votes he and his staff describe as pro-life.

Since his election, Casey has received just a 50 percent grade from the National Right to Life Committee covering numerous votes on abortion, abortion funding and other issues such as limiting the political free speech rights of pro-life organizations.

Casey backed the ObamaCare bill even after the Senate failed to approve language he supported ensuring it would not fund abortions at taxpayer expense. Though every major pro-life group and the nation s Catholic bishops told senators they wanted the bill defeated because of the abortion funding component, Casey went along with pro-abortion activists who railroaded it through the Senate. Media Reports on Teen Birth Decline Forget Abstinence
When media outlets reported last week on the decline in the number of teen births, one leading researcher says they should have placed emphasis on abstinence education.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control released statistics showing that teen pregnancy rates in the United States have hit a record low. The Washington Post and other media outlets reported the news but focused primarily on sexual education.

The media sources also analyzed the decline by saying the slow economy has caused teens to think twice before giving birth or engaging in sexual activity.

But Dr. Michael New, a political science professor and research on abortion at the University of Alabama, wrote in a new column at National Review: This focus on the economy as the reason for the teen-birthrate decline is rather puzzling. Full story at LifeNews.com

In the latest move in the contentious debate over the next Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, Texas Alliance for Life announced today it has endorsed Rep. Ken Paxton.

Paxton, a Republican from McKinney is facing off against Rep. Warren Chisum (R-Pampa) and current Speaker Joe Straus of San Antonio.

We enthusiastically endorse pro-life Representative Ken Paxton for Speaker of the Texas House, said Joe Pojman, executive director of the pro-life group. Full story at LifeNews.com

New York Pregnancy Centers Still Battle Anti-Free Speech Law
Pregnancy centers helping women find abortion alternatives in New York City continue to battle the city council and its attempt to limits its free speech.

The city council is considering a measure that would place stringent limits on the advertising pregnancy centers use and require them to post signs designed to dissuade women from seeking their abortion alternatives services.

Christine Quinn, the City Council speaker, and Councilwoman Jessica Lappin are behind the proposed ordinance. Should the measure be approved, one pro-life legal group is planning to sue the city over the law. Full story at LifeNews.com

Mother of Woman Who Died in Abortion Named Person of Year
The mother of a young woman who was killed in a failed abortion has been named the person of the year by the pro-life organization Operation Rescue.

Eileen Smith is an unlikely national pro-life advocate, but she became well known in the pro-life movement after Massachusetts-based abortion practitioner Rapin Osathanond was charged with manslaughter in relation to his killing 22-year-old Laura Smith, Eileen s adoptive daughter.

Smith died in September 2007 at his Women s Health Center abortion business after Osathanondh failed to provide proper medical care after the abortion went awry. Full story at LifeNews.com
