Senate Democrats Reject GOP Obamacare Delay, Force Abortion Funding
Senate Democrats today, on a party-line vote, rejected the House Republicans’ effort Saturday night to delay Obamacare, and stop abortion funding and promotion.

The Senate yanked out the House-approved amendments on the bill to fund the federal government, meaning it rejected amendments to strike abortion funding from Obamcare and to strike the HHS mandate that compels religious groups to pay for birth control and drugs that may cause abortions.

40 Days for Life Campaign Saves 36 Babies From Abortion Already
If you need a reason to look forward to Mondays, this is it! Mondays are the days we update all the reports of babies spared from abortion during your 40 Days for Life vigils.

Thus far during this 40 Days for Life campaign, we have reports of 36 babies saved … that we know of! Here are just a few of those stories.

Obama Admin Will Break Law to Fund Abortions for Congress, Congressional Staff
The Obama administration has confirmed it will break current federal law to pay for abortions for members of Congress and Congressional staff via Obamacare.
Leading pro-life groups and pro-life members of Congress have been concerned that the Office of Personnel Management will not comply with the Smith Amendment that bans taxpayer-funding of abortions in federal employee health care plans. Under the amendment, which is existing law, federal funds may not be used to pay for abortions via federally-funded health insurance for congressional staff and Members. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/09/30/obama-admin-will-break-law-to-fund-abortions-for-congress-congressional-staff/
Former Abortion Practitioner Lays His Surgical Instruments at the Feet of the Pope
The pro-life movement is filled with former abortion practitioners who have experienced a monumental change of heart. Many have converted to Christianity, become pro-life, and some now work as legitimate doctors or become associated with pregnancy centers providing women with tangible abortion alternatives.

Dr. Antonio Oriente is one such former abortion practitioner. He so genuinely wanted to receive forgiveness for his involvement in the abortion industry that, recently, he brought the surgical instruments he used to take the lives of unborn babies in abortions and laid them at the feet of Pope Francis. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/09/30/former-abortion-practitioner-lays-his-surgical-instruments-at-the-feet-of-the-pope/

Abortion Biz Prez Blasts GOP’s Defunding Abortion in Obamacare as “War on Women”
Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards is on the warpath again, making up claims that Republicans in the House of Representatives are engaging in some sort of “War on Women” by passing a measure that would ensure taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for abortions under Obamacare.
Under the false headline, “The House’s war on women,” Richards claims: http://www.lifenews.com/2013/09/30/abortion-biz-prez-blasts-gops-defunding-abortion-in-obamacare-as-war-on-women/

More Than 1 Million People Alive Today Because the Hyde Amendment Stopped Abortion Funding
The Hyde Amendment sticks in the craw of abortion absolutists as much as any pro-life law ever enacted. And today marks the 37th anniversary of passage of the law (the “Hyde” is the late pro-life champion, Rep. Henry Hyde), a titanic struggle that represented a major success against federal funding of abortion.
Prior to its passage in 1976, the federal Medicaid program paid for 300,000 abortions a year. Conservative estimates are that there are well over one million people are alive today because of the Hyde Amendment. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/09/30/more-than-1-million-people-alive-today-because-the-hyde-amendment-stopped-abortion-funding/

Breaking Bad Exposes Dark Side of Science Without Morality

India Clinics Coerce Women Into Surrogacy, Force Them to Have Caesarian Sections
In a land of “liberty” and “opportunity” it is difficult to imagine a person’s worth being assigned to him based on his ability, yet this is exactly what we do when we allow elective abortion based on a genetic The San Francisco Chronicle has a long and amazing story on surrogacy in India. It reveals how terribly the “gestational carriers” are exploited. For example, in one clinic three-quarters of all the children are born surgically by caesarean–and, it would appear, with inadequate post-surgical pain control. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/09/30/india-clinics-coerce-women-into-surrogacy-force-them-to-have-caesarian-sections/

St. Vincent de Paul Detroit, Planet Aid File Suit in Federal Court for Illegal Removal of Donation Bins, Scrapping Scam

DETROIT, Sept. 30, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- Nonprofits St. Vincent de Paul Detroit and Maryland-based Planet Aid have filed suit in Federal Court against Houston-based American Textile Recycling Services (ATRS), alleging the for-profit company illegally removed and disposed of their clothing donation bins located throughout metro Detroit including Pontiac, Milford, Jackson, Allan Park, Lincoln Park, Bloomfield Township. The suit states, further, that ATRS crossed state lines and used the U.S. mail system to carry out this fraudulent enterprise in violation of the Civil RICO statute - causing St. Vincent and Planet Aid to incur tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

After removing the donation bins, in many cases, ATRS, a for profit company, installed their own collection boxes, suggesting that it is on behalf of the Humane Society to collect items. ATRS is alleged to be in violation of the Civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO.
"These bins, often seen in front of shopping centers and grocery stores, are a major source of donations and revenue for these charities, which solely benefit needy individuals and their families," said attorney Daniel Dalton of Bloomfield Hills, Mich. based Dalton Tomich, plc. "ATRS sought to line their own pockets while depriving those who depend on St. Vincent and Planet Aid for help."
ATRS targeted and started removing donation boxes in October of 2012, drafting letters and contacting the store managers on properties where the bins were located, telling them that they would remove the boxes. ATRS would then remove competing boxes and install their own. Boxes were removed in Pontiac, Allen Park, Milford as well as Jackson. After removal, the contents of the bins were confiscated and the bins scraped for metal at Jackson, Michigan area scrap yards.
"The entire process was conceived by ATRS to maliciously harm and steal from St. Vincent de Paul, Planet Aid and other nonprofits," added Dalton. "We are looking forward to the court system hearing this case and taking corrective action."
The federal lawsuit, filed by St. Vincent DePaul and Planet Aid is currently pending in the United States District Court in Detroit, Michigan. A Motion for a Preliminary Injunction has been filed along with the complaint where St. Vincent DePaul and Planet Aid has asked for the Court to enjoin ATRS from taking their bins. The motion is pending before the Honorable Judge Denise Page Hood.

Dr. Alveda King: Media Lies Belie Duty to Publish Truth about Abortion and Civil Rights

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- "If media members print distortions, half-truths, or lies, they are duty bound to print corrections. Associated Press reporter Bob Lewis has printed a lie," said Dr. Alveda King, director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life. King, speaking in reference to a Washington Post excerpt where AP reported:
"In little-noted LG race, GOP's voluble and volatile Jackson debates wonky Dem doctor, Northam -- By Associated Press

"ARLINGTON, Va. -- Virginia's lieutenant governor candidates... clashed over health care, how to care for the dangerously mentally ill and women's access to reproductive health services..."
King explains: "In his story on the Virginia Lieutenant Governor candidates' debate, Mr. Lewis printed as fact a false claim [easily fact-checked as false] of one of the candidates. Mr. Lewis's article states that the 'personhood' bill considered by the Virginia legislature last year would have outlawed most forms of abortion in the state. In fact, the bill would have outlawed no abortions in the state."

A brief Google search would reveal that the personhood bill's summary declares that any rights granted to an unborn child are "subject only to the laws and Constitutions of Virginia and the United States, precedents of the United States Supreme Court, and provisions to the contrary in the statutes of the Commonwealth." So the bill is restricted by Roe v. Wade and every subsequent abortion decision by the Supreme Court. In other words, it would prohibit no abortions. Missouri has had almost identical language in its state code for years, language that has been upheld in court and which has barred zero abortions.

"Obviously Mr. Lewis and perhaps millions of Americans don't understand the concept of 'personhood' that upholds the constitutional mantra that all men [people] are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. Now that the door is open on the discussion of unalienable [civil] rights, let's demand the basic and intrinsic civil right of life for all persons, born and preborn," Dr. King insists.

"On the wings of 50th anniversary of The Civil Rights Act enacted July 2, 1964 are the cries of the aborted babies. While the landmark legislation outlawed major forms of racial, ethnic, national, religious, minority, and female discrimination, people in the womb were left out."

"Mr. Lewis's misleading story must be corrected immediately -- anything less would mean that the Associated Press no longer values the truth," she concluded.

40 Days For Life: DAY 6: 36 babies saved!

40 Days for Life

Dear Deacon John,

If you need a reason to look forward to Mondays, this is it! Mondays are the days we update all the reports of babies spared from abortion during your 40 Days for Life vigils.

Thus far during this 40 Days for Life campaign, we have reports of ...

... 36 babies saved ... that we know of!

Here are just a few of those stories.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Dan noticed a young mom he had recognized from earlier in the day, sitting on the doorsteps. "I asked her if she was going to be OK," he said. She responded, "What did you tell my boyfriend?"

Dan told her, "Probably what I tell them all - go inside and get her out of there! The time is NOW to save your baby's life!"

The woman looked surprised. "Seriously? That's all you said? Somehow, you lit him up. And it worked. He talked me out of it."

"I was dumbstruck; but not for long," Dan said. "I told her about the free help across the street. She said she would check it out."

Abrepo, Ghana

Edward is leading the 40 Days for Life vigil in Ghana. "God has been good to us," he said.

"I received a phone call from a lady around 2:57 am on September 26," he said. The message – "I have decided to keep my pregnancy if there is HOPE!"

"After the first day, one baby saved," Edward said. "Amen!"

St. Louis, Missouri

Brian in St. Louis says one of the prayer volunteers approached a young woman as she was pulling into Planned Parenthood, and offered to take her across the street to Thrive's mobile medical unit.

Patricia, the volunteer - who gives credit to the Holy Spirit for this turnaround - said the woman was surprised but grateful for the alternate opportunity provided by Thrive.

"Sometimes," Brian said, "all it takes are the prayers of some faithful volunteers and a brochure to help women realize that there ARE other options besides the abortion agenda of Planned Parenthood."

Here's today's devotional from Rev. Paul Stallsworth, president of Lifewatch (United Methodist Church)...

Day 6 intention

That knowing the shortness of life, all may value it more deeply.

Scripture

Remember your Creator before the silver cord is loosed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the well. Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

-- Ecclesiastes 12:6-7

Reflection by Rev. Paul Stallsworth

God is giver of all life. Short lived or long lived, human lives are lived out in this world. The metaphors for death are many. But their meaning is clear and singular: all will die. Even so, death is not the absolute end. It is not the end of the story. For as certainly as God gave life, at death the life or spirit that God gave returns to God.

By God, we are created. For God, we live our given days. To God, we return at the end of our earthly days. And with God, we live through eternity. Clearly, all along the way, this gracious, loving God is with us. No human life is random or alone. No human life was created without purpose. Not one human life is without destiny.

All human lives, acknowledged or not, are related to God -- from beginning, to end, throughout eternity. Therefore, in this world, all human lives are to be respected and protected, for their lives are signs of God's sovereignty.

Prayer

O God, we too often try to live in ways that ignore our coming death. We forget that our days are numbered by You, that at the end of our days your judgment awaits, that You are the Lord of our destiny.

Help us to repent daily, and then to live each day in joyful obedience. Lead us to live in the light and promise of eternity. Prepare us to live fully and sacrificially. Prepare us to die faithfully and hopefully, so that we might live forever with You. Through Jesus Christ, who has gone before us, we trust and hope and love and pray, Amen.

40 Days For Life: DAY 5: Message to "the sign people"

40 Days for Life
Dear Deacon John,

Just one item today - but a powerful one. Here's a letter that a young woman left at a 40 Days for Life vigil site - simply addressed "to the sign people."

If this doesn't show the importance of your peaceful witness outside the abortion centers ... I don't know what does!

To the sign people

My friend had left me the use of her apartment as she was away ... perfect because it was right where the clinic was!

The next day, I saw you people lining up with signs ... I watched from the window every day and all day you were there! Different folks each time.

I had this idea in my head that abortion picketers were extremists ... no "normal" person would do that sort of thing. Yet you did not look extreme ... more ordinary.

Tuesday was my pre-procedure appointment. Used the wrong entrance and had to walk past you. So what, I thought. Who cares? They don’t know me or where I am going. As I walked past (hurriedly!), my legs felt like they weighed a ton. What was going on? Are these people intimidating me? Do I need to feel ashamed as I walk past? The receptionist told me to "ignore them" when I asked about you.

Every day I watched you. One day I thought for sure no one would be there. Weather forecast was calling for severe winds and rain. There in the afternoon, amid strong winds which were blowing the signs over the head and onto the grass, you stood. Three or four together. All day!

The next day I took a walk and followed you in the direction where everyone seemed to go. It was a church. After everyone left, I went inside and saw all the signs, flyer. Impressive set-up, I thought. They seem organized in their purpose!

On Friday was my scheduled appointment for my procedure. I was suddenly terrified of what was to be. My heart was almost beating out of my chest.

My boyfriend, who had promised to come the day before, did not show up to take me. Said he was tied up and that ultimately it was my choice to have it that day or wait til next week. My choice. But he’s not there to hold my hand! Lots of weighing pros and cons.

Anyhow, I want to let you know that I decided to keep my baby. The boyfriend is still a distance away but maybe he needs time to come around and see the big picture.

The reason I decided to leave you this note is to tell you that what you did was good. I felt I owed it to you for all the days you stood there in hope that others would take notice. I noticed - and in turn it gave me hope that others I know would also  care to "stand for me."

It's a crazy world we live in ... but some seem to know how to see the good in it.

Thanks!

-----------------------------------------------------

Here's today's devotional from Rev. Ben Sheldon, president emeritus of Presbyterians Pro-Life...

Day 5 intention

May the truth of the final judgment shape our thoughts, priorities, and choices here on earth.

Scripture

The King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

-- Matthew 25:31-46

Reflection by Rev. Ben Sheldon

Caring for others is not optional.

Jesus' picture of the final judgment concludes with this sobering word: the wicked, who failed to care for others in their various needs (e.g., the hungry, the thirsty, the aliens, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned) will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous who did seek to meet those needs will end up with him, enjoying eternal life.

We know that this was no parable! Jesus has given us fair warning! Everything in God's Word points to the truth that compassionate concern and practical care for all people, especially for the poor, the destitute, the weak and needy is required of us, if indeed we hope to escape the punishment of the fire of hell.

And who are the poor and needy, if not helpless, unborn babies, as well as the aged and infirm at the other end of life? Surely the "least of these" embraces not only those at both ends of the continuum of life, but all others in between.

Just how we, as Christ's true followers, respond to his admonition "inasmuch as you did it to the least of these, you did it to me" will determine whether we enjoy eternal bliss in his presence or the bleak and dreadful reality of eternal punishment in hell. Nothing in God's Word could be clearer!

Prayer

Gracious and merciful Father, we gladly embrace your Word that counsels us to care for the least of your children, and we renew our dedication to defending the unborn and all whose right to life is compromised by our godless society's selfish lack of concern. Free us from our own failures and sins so that we will be truly pro-life in every area of our lives. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
