100 Youth to Lead CEC For Life Prayer Vigil at Florida Abortion Clinic

ORLANDO, July 31 /Christian Newswire/ -- CEC For Life, a ministry of the Charismatic Episcopal Church, will be holding a prayer vigil and press conference Friday, August 1 at 11 a.m., at the EPOC abortion clinic located on 609 Virginia Dr., Orlando, Florida.

Though there are several operating clinics in Orlando, this particular clinic offers discounts for students, military and Medicaid. CEC For Life considers such shameless business tactics to be a devastation to all life, not just that of the unborn.

"I expect a discount when I go to a car wash or to a grocery store or department store," said Fr. Gensemer, "but for someone to offer a discount to end a human life, it not only takes away from the humanity of innocent pre-born children, it cheapens and degrades all life, all humanity."

The vigil will be led and attended by over 100 youth from the CEC, with a street drama from the Brazilian dance group Benei Aor. To represent the silent victims of abortion, the youth will stand in prayer outside the clinic for one hour with red duct tape over their mouths. By giving up their own voice, these young people hope to demonstrate how their own country has denied a voice to the unborn. They will conclude with a liturgy honoring and celebrating the life of children killed by abortion.

For details and comments please call Fr. Terry Gensemer at 205-253-0159.

Pro-Life Leader Says Newspaper Misleads Catholic Voters on Pro-Abortion Pols

, 2008

Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-life Catholic leader says a New Jersey newspaper is misleading Catholic voters on the importantance of not supporting candidates who back abortion. The Trenton Times claims single issue voting based on abortion is passe this election cycle and quotes a priest who misleads its readers.

"If you think you know how the Catholic Church in the United States wants its members to vote in the presidential election this year, think again," the Times proclaims in a Wednesday article.

"Single-issue voting, like simply choosing the anti-abortion candidate, is out," it contends.

UNUSUAL TESTIMONY OF ONE WOMAN CASTS NEW LIGHT ON UNBORN, ISSUE OF ABORTION

As the fortieth anniversary of Humanae Vitae -- the Vatican's historic document on contraception and other life issues -- reverberates around the world, it is interesting to reflect upon the incredible fact that abortion is still practiced in the public square -- and in too many parts of the world, more than ever.

Clever is how the devil has caused abortion to be a "right," has relegated the unborn child as only a piece of tissue, and has invented the term "pro-choice" (as if abortion is pro anything).

It is a spiritual issue, part of a great spiritual war that has caused terrific division. Those for and against have a strong emotional attachment to their views, which was recently demonstrated when Senator Hillary Clinton -- no longer looking for primary votes -- nonetheless lashed out at President George Bush for a new plan that would define some contraceptive measures as abortion (thereby potentially limiting them). Meanwhile, Senator Clinton's former opponent, Barack Obama, who will be the Democratic candidate for U.S. president, is just as strong an advocate of abortion (okaying even late-term procedures, in certain instances). And while Senator John McCain, who will be the Republican candidate, grants pro-lifers their best option (if they wish to vote for one of the two key parties), he would allow research with human embryonic stem cells, which also involves the loss of unborn life.

It is the disorientation -- and tragedy -- of our times.

According to the Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine, more than a million embryonic children have been killed in the United Kingdom since 1999 as "waste" embryos from in vitro fertilization (in this nation that has only twenty percent of the U.S. population).

For decades, those opposing the atrocious act of abortion have pointed to ultra-sound photographs and even videos showing just how human a baby is, even at nine weeks old [see clip]. Others have shown facial close-ups or the famous photo of a little fetal hand grasping the finger of a surgeon during an operation on the baby's pregnant mother.

How about the photo of a seven-week-old child who seems cognizant (and nearly smiling)?

If that isn't enough, there is spiritual testimony. Abortion has been mentioned time and again by the Blessed Mother at purported sites of apparition, and many of those who have what they call near-death experiences -- in which they describe leaving their bodies upon clinical death (before they are revived) -- return with a pro-life view (warning against both abortion and suicide).

There are cases, in fact, whereby the near-death brush allegedly occurred before the person was technically born, in the womb.

Implausible as that seems, in near-death episodes, the person typically describes leaving the constraints of the earthly body and being able to actually watch those "below," or being whisked off to a place of splendor (often through a tunnel).

Has this happened with the unborn?

What might occur during abortion?

What would be the implications?

Reports of such abound in the literature, which is often penned by doctors as near-death experiences gain credibility.

One instance for discernment is that of viewer Lin Mongan in Kaukauna, Wisconsin. "I am married 41 years, mother of two, grandmother of seven, a housewife who worked part-time jobs off and on to add some extra money to our household income," she says.

"My story begins before my birth.

"Near full term in her pregnancy, my mother was losing me in the womb. The doctor informed her that the cord was wrapped around my neck, and I was fighting for my life.

"I was aware of everything going on before the doctor arrived due to the fact that I was hovering over my mother in spirit [our italics]. I recall trying to appeal to her – that I must survive! And I remember knowing she was my earthly mother, chosen for me by Our Lord God.

"I recall a near panic, in my quest to live, and repeating over and over that I had a purpose to fulfill, given to me by my heavenly Father. I watched as the doctor sat with my mother, unable to do anything other than quiet her, keep her still, and wait to see if I would make it.

"I recall en-entry into my physical body with much pain and almost a warrior approach fighting to be able to live.

"I was the first child of four. I retained this knowledge always."

Former Abortionist Bernard Nathanson Exposes Lies of American Pro-Abortion Movement

"We were guilty of massive deception" says Nathanson about abortion industry

By Tim Waggoner

TORONTO, ON, July 29, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On July 9, 2008, CFRB talk show host, Spider Jones, interviewed former abortionist Dr. Bernard Nathanson about his past involvement in the abortion movement and his conversion to the pro-life viewpoint.

At one time Nathanson was deeply entrenched in the American pro-abortion movement, having co-founded the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) and overseen 75,000 abortions as director of an abortion clinic. During the CFRB program Nathanson recalled the deceitful and dishonest tactics that he and NARAL relied upon to push for the legalization and acceptance of abortion.

"We claimed that between five and ten thousand women a year died of botched abortions," he said. "The actual figure was closer to 200 to 300 and we also claimed that there were a million illegal abortions a year in the United States and the actual figure was close to 200,000. So, we were guilty of massive deception."

"I mean as a founding member and chairman of the medical committee, I accepted the figures which came from a biostatistician named Christopher Teetsy and he and his wife passed along these figures to us at NARAL. We were in no position to validate them or not, so we accepted them in the interests of higher standards, or at least higher objectives," he explained.

Nathanson's conversion to the pro-life movement was sparked by the advent of the ultrasound machine in the early 1970s.  He related how his heart was moved to realize that a fetus is in fact a human being after he watched an unborn baby recoil from a vacuum abortion device before being sucked from its mother's womb.

Nathanson titled the video of this incident "The Silent Scream" and began using it to spread the pro-life message.  Planned Parenthood, however, took a page out of NARAL's book when the abortion giant spread rumors that the video was a fake.  Nathanson confirmed that these rumors, like the tactics of NARAL, were lies.

"Planned Parenthood was responsible for that," he said. "But it was not faked and what we did in order to validate it was to go to Dr. Ian Donald in Scotland, who is the father of ultra-sound, the inventor of ultra-sound and he looked at the film and he swore an affidavit that everything was as it was shown and there was no doctoring or manipulation or any changes in the speed or anything else."

Nathanson then addressed the fact that abortion is now used as a form of birth control - a result of another pro-abortion fabrication.

"One of the myths that was fed to the public through the media was that legalizing abortion would only mean that abortions taking place illegally, would be done legally. But in fact, abortion is now being used primary as a method of birth control all over the world and in the USA. too."

Pro-abortion advocates "refuse to see what most people are now conceding, that the fetus is a human being and we have no business massacring it in large numbers," concluded Dr. Nathanson.

FROM CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC DAILY:

“Aggressive protesters”

Governor signs law that could mean tougher stance by law enforcement against pro-lifers outside abortion centers

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law a bill extending for another five years the “Reproductive Rights Law Enforcement Act,” which requires the state to gather statistics on crimes against abortion providers – and adds a provision that could result in police taking a more hostile approach against what Planned Parenthood calls “aggressive protesters.”

According to a July 25 press release from the governor’s office, Schwarzenegger signed the bill, SB 1770, last week along with four other pieces of legislation. Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Pacoima was the bill’s author. The measure passed the state Senate 24-13, and the Assembly 45-29, largely along party lines – Democrats in favor, Republicans opposed.

The bill extends from Jan. 1, 2009 to Jan. 1, 2014 the “sunset provision” of the existing law. In addition, it adds a requirement that law enforcement personnel receive additional training on how to recognize crimes against abortion clinics and abortion providers, with the goal of less mediation and more arrests.

Fresno Court Rulings Affirm the Value of Janet Rivera's Life

FRESNO, Calif., July 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- After a hearing today in the Fresno County Superior Court, the family of patient Janet Rivera was reinstated as her conservator to manage Ms. Rivera's healthcare. Ms. Rivera's cousin sought conservatorship so that Janet's care can be administered in a life-affirming manner. The Court ruled that Ms. Rivera's cousin, Suzanne Emrich, temporarily replaces the public guardian who made the decision a few weeks ago to deprive Ms. Rivera of food and water.

Last week, after having been dehydrated and not fed for 8 days, Attorney Brian Chavez-Ochoa intervened on behalf of Ms. Rivera and because of Chavez-Ochoa's efforts the Court ordered that her foods and fluids be restored.

Attorney Chavez-Ochoa was very pleased with the outcome of today's hearing, stating that "The County of Fresno and the Public Guardian are to be applauded for immediately recognizing the rights of the family to care for their loved one and taking the steps to allow that process to be accomplished quickly and without delay. The Court, from the earliest stages of this proceeding, proffered rulings of wisdom and gave substance and value to Janet Rivera's life. The sanctity of life was honored and we thank the Lord for the wonderful outcome in this case."

"When Ms. Emrich contacted us on July 21st Brian was quick to take this on. We are very pleased that the family will be allowed to care for Ms. Rivera and that public officials listened to Ms. Rivera's family!" stated Dana Cody of the Life Legal Defense Foundation. Life Legal Defense Foundation, along with Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund, was able to assist behind the scenes so that Chavez-Ochoa could get to court before it was too late for Ms. Rivera.

Life Legal Defense Foundation was established in 1989, and is a non-profit organization composed of attorneys and other concerned citizens, committed to the sanctity of human life. For more information, call Dana Cody at 916.727.4396.

Killed in Darkness, Remembered in Light

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life

On the afternoon of Sunday, July, 27, 2008, close to five hundred of the faithful filled the tremendous Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament that Mother Angelica built in Hanceville, Alabama. They were gathered for the funeral of three children – Karen Esther, Enoch, and Rebekah.

The three children were all in the same small white casket. All had been killed just weeks earlier by abortion, and discarded in the trash outside of an abortion mill in Livonia, Michigan. Dr. Monica Miller, Director of Citizens for a Pro-life Society, transported the children to Alabama.

I conducted the funeral ceremony. Mother Angelica's community of sisters sang. The People of Life prayed, worshipped, mourned, and rejoiced in the hope of resurrection. As they honored the dead, they recommitted themselves to protect the living.

I have done funerals like this in various parts of the country. It was especially important, however, that this funeral took place at Mother Angelica's Shrine. I remember when she first told me, years ago, that at the heart of her vision for that Shrine was the unborn child. This was to be a place dedicated to the Divine Child, and a place where children in the womb – so easily forgotten and discarded in this culture of death – would be remembered and celebrated.

That's what we did on July 27.

I reminded the congregation of the funeral that Cardinal Joseph Bernardin of Chicago conducted back in 1988, when he buried two thousand aborted babies. When asked about the legal implications of the burial, he responded that such concerns paled to insignificance in comparison to the evil of taking innocent human life. He said he was doing a corporal work of mercy – to bury the dead.

That's what the People of Life do. They protect the living, and they bury the dead. They are not ashamed or afraid to honor in public those who are dishonored in secret by the hidden violence of abortion. By gathering in large numbers to bury aborted children, and by letting as many people as possible know about it, they make up in some small way for the callous disregard in which these children are held by many in our society.

That's why the 16,500 babies found in a large container in the Los Angeles area in the mid-1980's had to wait for three years before they were buried, as abortion supporters launched a legal battle to block the burial. They did not want society to acknowledge in any way that there was any humanity there to be honored. Just throw them away – and the more secret, swift, and private the better. So the abortion advocates believe.

But the Church believes different, and as we believe, so we worship. The congregation – including children holding their parents' hands – filed by the casket, which was open, and viewed the remains of these babies. There were tears of sorrow, but full of hope.

Each person left that church more committed than ever to bring the killing to an end.

Over 70 Colorado Physicians Sign Statement Saying Personhood Begins at Fertilization

"Personhood Amendment" set to appear on 2008 Colorado ballot

DENVER, Colorado, July 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Colorado for Equal Rights has announced the support of over 70 physicians and pharmacists, including neonatologists, family physicians, ob-gyns, pediatricians, and other physicians nationwide. These physicians have stated that they concur with the statement, "A 'person' includes any human from the time of fertilization." A list of these physicians is available at http://www.personhood2008.com

"We are honored to have received these endorsements from such respected physicians," stated Kristi Burton, the sponsor of the "Personhood Amendment" which is set to appear on the 2008 Colorado ballot. "Science clearly proves that life begins at the time of fertilization. We are secure in the fact that we have science and reason on our side, and we are pleased to have the medical community supporting our efforts."

Sponsored by Burton, a 20-year-old law student, the Personhood Amendment states: "Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Colorado…the terms 'person' or 'persons' shall include any human being from the moment of fertilization."

"As support for Amendment 48 accumulates, we are very encouraged as we get closer to November's election," continued Burton. "Every human life should be protected, and the endorsements we continue to receive prove that our easy to understand amendment is one that all Coloradans can support."

Operation Rescue to Tiller: "See You In Court!"

Judge Owens denies Tiller's motion to dismiss criminal charges. Upholds constitutionality of Kansas post-viability abortion ban

July 28th, 2008

Wichita, KS - District Court Judge Clark V. Owens released a 35-page opinion today on the constitutional challenge to the Kansas post-viability abortion ban, saying that "K.S.A. 65-6703 survives all of the constitutional challenges" presented by Tiller. His motion to dismiss the 19 criminal charges against him was denied.

This ruling will send Tiller to trial to face allegations that he illegally aborted 19 viable babies without first having obtained the second concurring opinion from an unaffiliated Kansas physician. If convicted, Tiller faces the possibility of 19 years in jail.

"We have just one thing to say to Tiller today and that is, 'See you in court!'" said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "Today's ruling by Judge Owens vindicates our efforts to bring Tiller to justice. All along, we knew that it wasn't the law that was faulty, but it was Tiller's interpretation of the law that was faulty. This gives us a glimmer of hope that we could eventually see some shred of justice."

(We will post the entire text of the decision here soon.)

Planned Parenthood Temporarily Suspends Abortions in South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota, July 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Allen D. Unruh submits the following and is available for comment:

On Monday, July 21, 2008, women in South Dakota showed up for their abortion appointments at 8:00 a.m. But there was a sign on the door that Planned Parenthood was closed. Monday is the day that Planned Parenthood usually schedules abortions at its Sioux Falls abortion clinic. On those Mondays, Planned Parenthood flies a doctor in from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to perform 15 to 20 abortions. On this Monday, no unborn babies died in South Dakota by an abortion. The reason Planned Parenthood suspended its abortion practice this week should be the most exciting news the Culture of Life has ever had. Monday was the first day Planned Parenthood had to comply with South Dakota's new Abortion Informed Consent Law. The Law became effective because of a decision of an en banc Court of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, on June 27, 2008, which vacated an injunction. Now Planned Parenthood must comply with the requirements of the Law.

Among other things, the new law requires the abortion doctor to advise the pregnant mother, in writing, that the abortion will "terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being." The U.S. Court of Appeals rejected Planned Parenthood's argument that the Statute violated the doctor's first amendment rights. Planned Parenthood is contending that the statement is one of "ideology." The Court held that the Statute made it clear the statement was a statement of biological fact, not one of ideology; and the evidence produced did not demonstrate it was anything other than an accurate statement of biological fact.

The new Law also requires the abortion doctor to inform the pregnant mother that the pregnant mother and the second human being have an existing relationship that enjoys protection under the Constitution of the United States, and that the procedure terminates that relationship and the rights associated with it. The Law also requires disclosure of medical risks, including the risk of depression and "increased risk of suicide ideation and suicide."

After the case was remanded back to the Federal District Court on June 27th, Planned Parenthood's lawyers attempted to convince the District Court Judge to enter a new injunction concerning the disclosures other than the "human being" disclosure. On Thursday, July 17th, the District Court refused to enter another injunction and the Law became effective on Monday, July 21st.

When someone finally came to the Planned Parenthood office this last Monday, no abortion doctors arrived with them. No abortion doctor flew into South Dakota that day. The penalties for abortionist's non-compliance could include a prison sentence, loss of medical license, and civil liability. In South Dakota, a wrongful death case can be brought for the death of an unborn child at any age of gestation. Time will tell if an abortionist will take the medical and legal risk of completing abortions in South Dakota without compliance to the 8th Circuit decision. The new rules are that they must tell the truth. The immediate beneficiaries of this new law are the women and their children. The women will be better informed, and that information, for some, will most likely result in the women keeping their children. More children will live.

But, perhaps the greatest beneficiary is our culture at large.

In the lawsuit brought by Planned Parenthood challenging the constitutionality of South Dakota's Informed Consent Law, Dr. Bernard Nathanson testified that he was one of the original founders of the National Alliance to Repeal Abortion Laws (NARAL). He is probably the last living original founder. He testified that as part of their strategy, the NARAL founders decided that they had to deny what they knew to be true -- that an abortion killed a living human being. They decided to deceive the public (and the courts) by maintaining that what was "evacuated" in an abortion was "just some tissue." Dr. Nathanson has blown NARAL's cover. The Eighth Circuit has now shown a bright light on the truth. And the truth will, in the end, set us free.

Local Artist Displays Original Art At Operation Rescue's Memorial For The Pre-born

July 28th, 2008

Wichita, Kansas - A local artist has allowed her original art works to embellish the Memorial to the Pre-Born at Operation Rescue's new national headquarters.

Betty Bailey, a Wichita artist who specializes in infant portraits, has allowed six of her original artworks to hang in the building, four of which adorn a special wall that serves as a memorial to the pre-born. Bailey is also volunteers her time offering help to women outside George Tiller's infamous late-term abortion mill.

"Betty's art works bring home the humanity of the pre-born in a unique way," said Operation spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. "It is impossible to look at the Memorial Wall and not consider the human tragedy of abortion, both in terms of innocent lives cut short, and the aching hearts of the women who now regret their abortions and can only dream of what their babies might have been."

Operation Rescue bought the building housing the Central Women's Services abortion clinic in Wichita in June of 2006, forcing the abortion business to close. OR allowed the clinic to remain untouched for several months in order to document the filthy and unsafe conditions that existed there, and to allow the community and media an opportunity to tour the building in the appalling condition that the abortion business left it.

In January, 2007, the building's interior had been completely demolished and a dedication service was held.

Construction on the new floor plan for what would become Operation Rescue's state-of-the-art national headquarters began later that year and today the dedicated OR staff works to stop abortion from the building where abortion claimed an estimated 50,000 innocent lives.

"We invite those who are in the Wichita area to visit our new headquarters inside this transformed abortion mill and pay their respects at our Memorial for the Pre-born. Come and take time to reflect on the value of each individual life, and the tour the office, which stands as a powerful testimony to the redemptive power of Jesus Christ," said Sullenger.

Fresno County family battles for life of unconscious woman that government-appointed conservator wants to deny food and water

A Fresno County judge has ordered life support temporarily restored to a comatose woman. Probate Judge Debra Kazanjian issued the ruling on July 23 at the urging of family members of Janet Rivera of Sanger, whose feeding and hydration tubes had been removed two weeks earlier at the request of a county-appointed guardian. She has been on life support for more than two years.

Judge Kazanjian said she would revisit the issue on Tuesday, July 29, following a thorough assessment of Sanger's medical condition.

UN Secretary General Nominates Abortion Advocate for Top Human Rights Post

By Samantha Singson

NEW YORK, NY, July 24, 2008 (C-FAM) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to name abortion advocate Navanethem "Navi" Pillay of South Africa as the UN's High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) this week, despite reservations from the United States.

According to the New York Times, the United States has privately raised concerns about Pillay's nomination to the top human rights post because of her strong support for abortion. Pillay is a founding member of the international non-governmental organization Equality Now, a group that has spearheaded campaigns for abortion access in Poland and Nepal. Pillay remains on the board of the organization which receives major funding from pro-abortion foundations, including George Soros' Open Society Institute and the Ford Foundation.

In her interview with the Judicial Service Commission in 1994 when she was being considered for membership to South Africa's Constitutional Court, Pillay expressed concern that including a "right to life" article in the South African Constitution would create problems in relation to abortion. "This is the one clause [the pro-life lobby] are going to latch on to for their cause," Pillay said.

During that interview, Pillay also expressed concern that the constitutional article did not define whether or not such a right begins at conception, leaving it "open to litigation" which could potentially threaten women's "reproductive rights." When pressed on why she would be so opposed to a reasoned debate on the issue, she responded with the question, 'Why have not other rights been put in there as patently as this one which would be the woman's right to, reproductive rights, for instance?'"

Pillay became prominent for her role as presiding judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, a post she occupied from 1995 until her appointment to the International Criminal Court in 2003. Pillay has been a favorite among women's groups and is consistently endorsed by feminist NGOs for top level jobs at the UN, including Secretary General. Radical feminist NGOs first endorsed Pillay for the High Commissioner on Human Rights post four years ago, but the job went to Canada's Louise Arbour.

The High Commissioner is the principal UN official with responsibility for human rights and is accountable to the Secretary-General. According to UNHCR definition, the High Commissioner is charged with the task of leading the international human rights movement by acting as a "moral authority" and coordinating and streamlining human rights within the UN system. This would include all of the human rights treaty monitoring bodies which have increasingly overstepped their mandates to pressure more than 60 sovereign nations on their abortion laws in recent years.

Critics are concerned that Pillay will adopt the same positions on social issues as her predecessors, Canada's Louise Arbour and Ireland's Mary Robinson. Both Arbour and Robinson support abortion as a human right. Both also enthusiastically endorse the "Yogyakarta Principles," a document claiming homosexual rights as binding human rights, including same-sex "marriage," adoption by homosexual couples and state-funded sex change operations.

A formal announcement from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Pillay's nomination is expected this week.

ProLifeNews.tv recently interviewed Kristan Hawkins, National Director for Students for Life of America. We asked her why they were sponsoring an event in Cincinnati, Ohio. She replied:

“We’ve been having “Defund Planned Parenthood” events in Washington (DC), and we decided to move it to Cincinnati this time to ask the NAACP to join us in our camplaign, to call on congress to investigate “Defund Planned Parenthood”. The NAACP is the largest organization to represent African American rights. What better right is there than the right to life?”

Chilling WIC News:

Federal government site refers poor moms to Planned Parenthood

Dawn Eden finds an interesting link on the Department of Agriculture's WIC page which stands for the Women, Infants, and Children program. Unbelievable that our government is referring women to Planned Parenthood, where they can take care of their problem: kill their own child! By the way, a large percentage of these people are black & Hispanic, which shows us that Margaret Sanger's genocide program is still working!

FEDERAL PROPOSAL RECOGNIZING BIRTH CONTROL PILL AS ABORTION IN DANGER

Washington, DC (24 July 2008) – We need YOU to protect a new proposal that would defund Planned Parenthood, protect medical workers and save countless lives – and we need it TODAY!

The Bush administration is considering a regulation that would not only ensure freedom of conscience for pro-life medical workers, but also recognize abortion as including the birth control pill or any other contraceptive method that results in the death of a human being before or after implantation.

Pro-abortion lawmakers, fueled by an irate Planned Parenthood Federation of America and supported by the pro-abortion mainstream media are on the warpath.  They know how important this regulation could be to protect preborn children, so they want to make sure it gets quashed ASAP.  Led by Sen. Hillary Clinton, pro-aborts are circulating a letter signed by more than 105 members of Congress pledging their opposition to the regulation and vowing to fight it.

But pro-lifers are fighting back. Reps. Dave Feldon and Lincoln Davis are cosponsoring a letter in support of the regulation and are asking other lawmakers to co-sign. The deadline is the end of the day today.

Here's how you can help:

    - Call your congressional representatives and tell them what you think of President Bush's protection of freedom of conscience.

    - Call the White House at (202) 456-1414 (ask the switchboard operator to be put through to the public comment line), and tell President Bush how you feel about protection of pro-life medical workers.

    - Call Michael Leavitt, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services at (202) 690-7000 and voice your opinion on this critical issue

FROM OPERATION RESCUE:

South Dakota Remains First Abortion-Free State After Planned Parenthood Abortionists Refuse To Work

July 24th, 2008

Heroic efforts of pro-lifers have turned the dream of an abortion-free state into reality

Sioux Falls, South Dakota - On Monday, July 21, eight women arrived at the Planned Parenthood office in Sioux Falls abortions but were instead met with locked doors and a hand-written not indicating the only abortion clinic in South Dakota was closed.

Planned Parenthood remains closed for abortions after their abortionists, who are flown in from other states, refused of work under the new law that went into effect last Friday. The law orders abortionists to inform patients of the humanity of their babies and that the procedure could affect their mental health two hours before the abortion can be done. The law also provides that abortionists can be sued if they do not comply.

This law was the brain-child of attorney Harold Cassidy and passed with the help of determined pro-life leaders Dr. Alan and Leslee Unruh, who pushed for the regulation in the face of opposition even from those in the pro-life movement. The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals cleared the way for the law's enactment last week.

In remains unclear if the Planned Parenthood office has permanently ceased the practice of abortion. However, several women who were scheduled for abortions this week went to a pro-life center instead where some have reportedly changed their minds about having abortions.

"The closing of this clinic is historic in that South Dakota is, for the time being, the first abortion-free state," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "It didn't take the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and it didn't take a new President or a new Supreme Court. It took the courageous determination of pro-life heroes like Mr. Cassidy and the Unruhs who saw an opportunity to save lives and pressed on until their dream became victory."

"We applaud their efforts and encourage other states to emulate their campaign," said Newman.

The Unruhs are currently involved in the Vote Yes For Life Campaign, which would effectively ban abortions in South Dakota, putting the finishing nail in the coffin of the abortion industry there.

Text of the new law and links to the court decision can be found at www.voteyesforlife.com.

Pro-Life Leader Blames Feminist Groups for Slaughter of Girls

FRONT ROYAL, Va., July 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steven Mosher, president of the Population Research Institute (PRI), says that America has a hidden problem of sex discrimination, but a form of discrimination that feminists refuse to address.

In PRI's latest YouTube video, Mosher decries the practice, common in East and South Asian countries, of sex-selective abortion. According to the United Nations, this practice has already claimed the lives of over 100 million girls worldwide. The video goes on to cite a recent study published by the National Academy of Sciences, saying that many American groups, particularly those of Asian descent, have the same skewed birthrates as found in their country of origin. Many of the sexist customs and practices that have led to these skewed birthrates are being imported into the United States.

"In China, India, and other Asian countries, there is a strong preference for boys," Mosher says. "This combination of a preference for boys and modern technology--the ultrasound machine--has proven deadly for millions upon millions of baby girls." The video goes on to detail exactly how serious the problem is, and how it can only be explained by the selective abortion of baby girls.

"Where are the feminists when you need them?" asks Mosher. According to Mosher, the widespread slaughter of unborn girls has failed raise concerns in the feminist community. American feminists are so wedded to abortion-on-demand that they are unwilling to oppose any abortion, however egregious. This is true, he says, even when the practice involves the killing of hundreds of millions of girls for the sole reason that they are girls.

"I challenge the National Organization of Women," says Mosher, "and other feminist groups, to join us in the battle to ban this terrible form of sex discrimination that is killing so many unborn baby girls. Their continued silence only facilitates the killing."

PRI's new video is available at www.youtube.com/colinpri1, or on PRI's web site: www.pop.org.

The Population Research Institute (PRI) was founded in 1989 by Fr. Paul Marx, OSB, PhD and is dedicated to: (1) ending human rights abuses committed in the name of "family planning", (2) opposing outdated social and economic paradigms premised on the myth of overpopulation, (3) informing the public about the social and economic benefits of moderate population growth, and (4) promoting pro- natal and pro-family attitudes and policies worldwide. Steven Mosher is the author of numerous books, including Population Control: Real Costs and Illusory Benefits.

Reid Spikes Omnibus Package with Psychotropic 'MOTHERS Act

Speak Up For Your Children

WASHINGTON, July 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D – NV) has slipped a controversial bill called The MOTHERS Act into an omnibus package called "Advancing America's Priorities Act" (S. 3297) which is scheduled for a vote July 26. The MOTHERS Act, a bill to screen and treat pregnant and new mothers across the U.S. at risk for mental disorders, has stalled in the Senate HELP committee for months. The abortion rights groups NARAL Pro- Choice America, The Guttmacher Institute, and Planned Parenthood publicly support The MOTHERS Act.

Reid will move to invoke cloture and pass the $11.3 billion omnibus bill this Saturday without debate.

Senator Tom Coburn, M.D. (R – OK) criticized Reid's plan, stating, "What the staff members are saying is we want to bring a bill, but we don't want to debate it. We don't want to vote on it. We don't want to have it amended. We don't want the American people to know what we would rather do in secret."

Citizens Against Government Waste commented, "If the legislation is worthy of taxpayer money, surely the Senate should have no problem spending time to debate the individual bills."

Ironically, The MOTHERS Act is named for Melanie Stokes, who committed suicide in 2001, following postpartum psychiatric treatment including four separate drug cocktails and electroshock therapy. Many of the groups backing the bill also receive funds from or have high-ranking members working for pharmaceutical companies, or stand to profit from treating troubled women or off of babies needing extensive medical care for birth defects and other complications.

In January 2008, the New England Journal of Medicine published suppressed data from drug companies that proved antidepressants work no better than a placebo. The FDA warned repeatedly that antidepressants double suicides and issued numerous warnings concerning the use of antidepressants during pregnancy. According to data from the FDA MedWatch system, from 2004-2007, an estimated 2,900 babies died via spontaneous abortion because of SSRI antidepressants given to pregnant women. Studies demonstrate that antidepressants double spontaneous abortions and stillbirths and quintuple preterm births. Babies exposed to SSRIs in pregnancy have a six-fold increased risk of persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPHN), a potentially fatal lung problem. Nearly one third of women who take SSRIs during pregnancy have a baby who dies, is premature or underweight, or who has seizures.
