Amidst a wilderness of mourning, a fortress of courage
By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
As I write these words, I know of two women who are accompanying loved ones on their final journeys. One is a wife, tending to her dying husband. The other is a daughter, spending the remaining precious moments with her ailing father. At such times, the crush of emotions can be overwhelming. The torrent of sadness pouring over one’s soul. The deep longing for opportunities missed. The chilling realization that goodbye will come all too soon. These women are fortresses of courage in the face of death.  CONTINUE READING

Baby Liqiu’s Grandmother Wanted to Give Her Away. We Saved Her.

“Liqiu’s”grandmother wanted to give her away.  We saved her.
Liqiu was three months old when we found her.  She is the unfortunate third daughter in her family.  Third daughters are routinely aborted or abandoned in China, so Liqiu is lucky to be alive.  Her grandmother forced her pregnant mom to go to the hospital, where the grandmother bribed the doctor to check the baby’s gender.  (Checking an unborn baby’s gender is illegal in China, but it is done frequently.)  Luckily for Liqiu, the doctor mistakenly concluded that she would be a boy.

When Liqiu was born a girl instead of a boy, the grandmother was angry at the doctor and demanded her money back.  The doctor said it was not his fault, because there is always a 1-in-100 chance of error.  If he had not made a mistake, we believe the grandmother would have pressed for Liqiu to be aborted, just because she is a girl.

Liqiu and her family live in extreme poverty.  They are farmers, and their allotment of land is not big enough to support all of them.  For this reason, after Liqiu was born, the grandmother wanted to give her away to a relative.  Liqiu’s mom loved her and wanted to keep her, but Liqiu’s dad considered it for financial reasons.  Liqiu was in danger of being given away!

Fortunately for Liqiu and her mom, our fieldworker heard about their situation and reached out to the family, offering encouragement about the value of girls, as well as a $25 monthly stipend for a year.  Hearing this, Dad agreed to keep the girl, because our program gave him encouragement and provided essential financial support.   Thanks to your help, our Save-a-Girl program saved Liqiu from being given away.

Won’t you help us save more baby girls in China? So far, we have saved hundreds of girls, and yet there are millions more who are being aborted or abandoned just because they are girls – or who are at-risk because of grinding poverty.  Each one of these girls is infinitely precious. Please help us save them by donating to our “Save a Girl” Campaign.

For $25 per month, or $300 per year, our GirlSavers have helped WRWF save at-risk babies in China!  These babies may not be alive, or they may have been “given away,” or not had enough to eat, if our undercover fieldworker had not found them and extended a helping hand to their mothers. We put our money where our mouth is, offering practical assistance to empower these mothers to keep their daughters.
We are the only organization in the world with boots on the ground saving baby girls and impoverished widows in China.  Will you please help them?

YES, I WANT TO HELP END GENDERCIDE AND FORCED ABORTION IN CHINA!

Your donation enables Women's Rights Without Frontiers to continue to be a voice for the voiceless women and children of China. This huge effort comes at a cost. We need your support. Please give as generously as you can. Every donation makes a difference!

40 Days For Life: DAY 40: A Different Kind of Life Saved

Everybody knows praying at a 40 Days for Life vigil saves babies' lives...

...but sometimes, your prayers save the lives of those despairing over the loss of their aborted children.

A young man in Alvaro Obregon, Mexico was devastated when his ex-girlfriend aborted their child. Tormented by grief, he decided to kill himself.

"That night, he left his house with the intention of not returning," reported 40 Days for Life Director of Latin American Campaigns Lourdes Varela.

The man boarded a bus and headed for the destination where he would end his own life. He looked out the bus window, saw Hugo praying on his knees in front of the abortion facility, and hurried off the bus to talk.

"Why do you pray?" the man asked Hugo. The question started a powerful conversation that resulted in the man accepting an invitation to receive professional post-abortion healing.

"You saved my life," the man told Hugo before departing.

The grace-filled encounter shows why prayer at abortion centers is important--even during non-business hours.

"I was tempted to think that at this time of night it was not worth praying because the abortion center was already closed," Hugo said. "God makes it clear, no matter the time, at any moment we can save lives and souls."

Denton, Texas

The Denton 40 Days for Life team held a diaper drive--right at the vigil site--for a local pregnancy help center.

"We received a generous amount of diapers," reported Arianne, the local leader. "What an amazing Saturday we had."

Not only did the pregnancy center receive a mountain of diapers, but it also received ten thousand dollars in donations!

St. Paul, Minnesota and Medellin, Colombia

Vila participates in the 40 Days for Life campaign in Medellin, Colombia. But she's visiting the United States for three months and has now joined the vigil in a very different climate: St. Paul, Minnesota!

"She may even volunteer as a sidewalk counselor while she's here!" reported St. Paul leader, Rev. Brian Walker.

Boston, Massachusetts

Prayer warriors in Boston have received more than their share of persecution, spitting, and scorn this fall. But recently, a young man approached Linda, handed her a $100 bill as a donation, and said, "Thank you for what you are doing!"

The man is an international medical student who said that praying in front of an abortion facility in his country would result in an arrest.

"I ask all who are involved in this campaign to pray for this wonderful young man--that he becomes a powerful influencer and a wonderful pro-life physician back in his country," Linda said.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!”

— Revelation 21:4-5

Father, you are the God of hope. Your word fills us with the vision of the world to come, when every tear will be wiped away, and death will be no more. Father, how we need that hope, how we are strengthened by that vision! Keep our hearts focused on heaven, and diligent in the labors of earth. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory.
