"40 Days For Life" sent you a message on Facebook...

Sarah Shea sent a message to the members of 40 Days For Life.

--------------------
Subject: Day 9: Let our virtue correspond with our knowledge...

Intention:
Let our virtue correspond with our knowledge.

Scripture:
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. -- Romans 7:15

Reflection:
I remember visiting my cousin when he was having a party. One person who came in was using bad language and just making all sorts of noise. My cousin said, "Have I introduced you to my cousin who is going into the seminary?" All of a sudden this man turned red and started to apologize for his language. The rest of the night he kept apologizing and at the end of the night he said "Pray for me."

This man knew he should not be saying those things. It was not just knowledge that he needed. Planned Parenthood makes the statement that their, "Sex Ed" gives the children knowledge to make the right decisions. Even if they were giving them proper knowledge this would not change what is going on. This would mean that if we know something we would never sin. Knowledge without virtue is not enough. The information they give is lacking in all virtue.

It is always good to remember that all sound practice rest on sound doctrine. Instead of teaching like Planned Parenthood, we teach what is correct, and along with that the way to lead them to virtue, not to vice and then our example to them is needed to help guide them along the way. The reason Planned Parenthood teaches otherwise is only so that they will have more business in the future.

Many of the people that promote the culture of death have the knowledge of good and evil. This knowledge without caring and without virtue does not help them. Christ sent all Christians out into the world to help people to see that model of virtue and that knowledge of Caring that this 40 days will bring.

Prayer:
Lord, how many times do we turn from you and choose to follow evil ways even though we know that it is wrong. Help us to always follow the way of virtue and following the way of Jesus Christ. We also ask you to send your grace to those who act in evil ways against the children in the womb. Convert those who do not see the dignity of these children. Help them too find a life of virtue and to acknowledge the humanity and sacredness of these tiny lives. Keep us all aware of our actions, and help us to use it rightly in the cause of life and justice. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sarah Palin Reaffirms Pro-Life Views on Abortion, Won't Use Morning After Pill
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Governor Sarah Palin reaffirmed her pro-life views against abortion in an interview on Monday with Katie Couric of CBS News. Palin has been criticized for her answers in recent interviews but reassured pro-life voters with her clear statements that abortion is wrong. "I am pro-life. And I'm unapologetic in my position that I am pro-life," said during the discussion with the pro-abortion news anchor. "I would also like to see a culture of life in this country." "And I understand there are good people on both sides of the abortion debate. In fact, good people in my own family have differing views on abortion, and when it should be allowed, so I respect people's opinions on this," the governor said. Asked about her stance on whether abortion should be allowed in cases of rape and incest, the Alaska governor said she would encourage women victimized by rape to choose life for their babies. "I would counsel to choose life," she said. "But I would also like to take it one step further. Not just saying I am pro-life and I want fewer and fewer abortions in this country, but I want them, those women who find themselves in circumstances that are absolutely less than ideal, for them to be supported, and adoptions made easier." Nonpartisan Group Labels Barack Obama's Stem Cell Research Ads Misleading
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The misinformation and misleading nature of Barack Obama's ads on stem cell research was too much for one leading nonpartisan institute. The FactCheck web site run by the University of Pennsylvania, which reviews political ads and debates, says Obama's ads are inaccurate. LifeNews.com has profiled the Obama radio ads and how they wrongly indicated McCain is against stem cell research and ignored the success of adult stem cells. We have also covered McCain's response in his own radio ads. FactCheck agrees and says, "An Obama-Biden radio ad hammers McCain for being opposed to stem cell research. Not true." "Meanwhile two spots from the McCain-Palin campaign, together with the Republican National Committee, describe McCain's support for the research; they're largely accurate," FactCheck says. "By saying that 'John McCain has stood in the way, he's opposed stem cell research,' the Obama ad seriously misstates the view that McCain has held on this issue since 2001," the analysis continues. Planned Parenthood Runs False Ad Attacking Palin on Bogus Rape Kit Charge

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Planned Parenthood is running a new television commercial that makes the now-disproved charge that John McCain running mate Sarah Palin forced rape victims to pay for rape kits. The charge picked up mainstream media steam in previous weeks but has been rebutted as completely false. The ad features a woman named Gretchen who appears to be a rape victim and she tells the audience "I just didn't think it would happen to me." "Under Mayor Sarah Palin, women like Gretchen were forced to pay up to $1,200 for the emergency exams used to prosecute their attackers," the Planned Parenthood ad claims. The problem with the Planned Parenthood ad is that Governor Palin never instituted the kind of policy the abortion business claims. Planned Parenthood cites a September 22 CNN article to justify its claim that Palin's policy was to charge women for the kits, but CNN indicates otherwise. "Interviews and a review of records turned up no evidence that Palin knew that rape victims were being charged in her town," CNN reported. As governor, Palin approved a funding increase for domestic violence shelters -- giving them an extra $266,200 -- and reauthorized a Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. Meanwhile, columnist Warner Todd Huston rebuts the false claim in a recent article and notes the charge "stems from a May 22, 2000 article in the local Wasilla paper The Frontiersman and has been spun from a comment made by the Wasilla Police Chief. This comment was somehow made into a Sarah Palin policy." Full story at LifeNews.com.

Cardinal Justin Rigali Urges Catholics to Be Actively Pro-Life, Oppose Abortion Bill
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia has released a statement to mark Respect Life Sunday this weekend. The head of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops also hopes Catholics will actively oppose a bill that would overturn pro-life laws nationwide. He urged Catholics "to help build a culture in which every human life without exception is respected and defended." "Let us rededicate ourselves to defending the basic rights of those who are weakest and most marginalized: the poor, the homeless, the innocent unborn, and the frail and elderly who need our respect and our assistance," he said. Cardinal Rigali says there is good news for the pro-life movement on the eve of the national presidential election. He cited encouraging trends that "most Americans favor banning all abortion or permitting it only in very rare cases," and that the U.S. abortion rate declined 26 percent between 1989 and 2004, with a 58 percent decline among girls under 18. He also addressed the threat posed by "FOCA" -- the so-called Freedom of Choice Act, a Congressional bill Barack Obama has said he would make signing his first presidential act. The measure would make the unlimited abortions allowed under Roe v. Wade the national law and overturn every pro-life law nationwide -- from bans on taxpayer funding of abortions and partial-birth abortion bans to parental involvement laws and informed consent measures. California Parental Notification on Abortion Gets Ad From Eduardo Verastegui
Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Popular Hispanic actor Eduardo Verastegui is weighing in again on the abortion debate just days after he made a video criticizing Barack Obama for his pro-abortion position. In a new video clip, the Bella actor endorses the parental notification measure that will appear on the California ballot next month. Verastegui is featured in a Yes on Proposition 4 television ad unveiled by the campaign today. In the 90-second ad, Verastegui says family involvement is the best way to ensure that a girl gets the best medical care and understands all her options. "In California, a girl younger than 18 cannot get a tan at a tanning salon, she cannot get her ears pierced, she cannot be provided an aspirin by the school nurse without the consent of her parents," Verastegui says. "Yet a doctor can perform a chemical or surgical abortion on such a girl without having to tell some member of her family." Full story at LifeNews.com

Schwarzenegger Signs Bill That Will Cause Deaths of Patients Via Dehydration
Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is drawing condemnation from pro-life advocates who say he was wrong to sign a bill that puts vulnerable patients at risks and has physicians promoting suicide. The measure didn't legalize assisted suicide but contained suicide-promoting provisions pro-life groups opposed. AB 2747 originally had the purpose of legalizing assisted suicide but was amended in committee to urge doctors to inform patients how they can legally end their lives. Brian Johnston, the head of the California Pro-Life Council and someone who has served on panels helping the elderly, condemned the governor. He tells LifeNews.com the measure Schwarzenegger signed will result in the deaths of thousands of patients. "I've been in countless California nursing homes as both a California Commissioner on Aging and on the State's Board of Examiners of Nursing Homes," he said. "This bill will encourage tens of thousands of unheralded, quiet deaths by dehydration." Florida Abortion Advocates Upset Crist Picks Pro-Life Supreme Court Judges
Tallahassee, FL (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates in Florida are upset with Governor Charlie Crist, who has selected two judges friendly to the pro-life movement for the Florida Supreme Court. Crist named conservative appellate judge Ricky Polston to the court today and former Rep. Charles Canady earlier. Polston received his law degree from Florida State University law school and was appointed in 2000 to the First District Court of Appeal. He is an elder at a local Christian church. His comments to the Miami Herald newspaper indicate his judicial philosophy is one pro-life advocates can support -- "I will not want to legislate from the bench." In September, Crist named pro-life champion Charles Canady, a Second District Court of Appeal judge, to the state Supreme Court. Canady is a former Florida congressman who was the lead sponsor of the partial-birth abortion ban and worked closely with the pro-life community. Full story at LifeNews.com

New York Catholic Bishops: Make Pro-Life Issues First Priority When Voting
Albany, NY (LifeNews.com) -- The Catholic bishops of New York have released a new statement urging voters to make pro-life issues their first priority when voting. They say the destruction of 50 million children and the injury of countless millions of women eclipses any other political issue. Edward Cardinal Egan and the Catholic Bishops of New York issued the appeal in statement entitled Our Cherished Right, Our Solemn Duty. The bishops warn against voting solely out of party loyalty or self interest and say voters should be guided by the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church. While noting that there are many issues of great importance facing the country, the protection of human life rises above all other issues, the bishops said. "We Catholics are called to look at politics as we are called to look at everything – through the lens of our faith," they wrote. "It is the rare candidate who will agree with the Church on every issue. But as the U.S. Bishops’ recent document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship makes clear, not every issue is of equal moral gravity," they explain. "The inalienable right to life of every innocent human person outweighs other concerns where Catholics may use prudential judgment, such as how best to meet the needs of the poor or to increase access to health care for all," they add. Interpretation of New Illinois Law Could Stifle Grassroots Advocacy Groups

CHICAGO, Oct. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Pro-life advocates say a new law intended to protect small, grassroots organizations is doing just the opposite.

Today in Kane County Circuit Court, members of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League were shocked to hear Planned Parenthood of Illinois is demanding $317,322 in legal fees related to a libel lawsuit filed against it by the League and its communication director, Eric Scheidler. Planned Parenthood says it is entitled to recover legal fees for parts of the libel lawsuit a judge dismissed under Illinois' new Citizen Participation Act.

"As if it weren't enough for Planned Parenthood to smear our good name with lies in letters to the Aurora City Council and ads in newspapers, now they want to bankrupt us and shut us down for daring to challenge their lies," said Scheidler.

According to its wording, the Act was intended to protect individuals' and small organizations' "constitutional rights to...participate in and communicate with government," and guard against the threat of frivolous and costly lawsuits that might deter them from doing so.

In this case, the billion- dollar enterprise, Planned Parenthood, is using the law to justify its defamatory statements against Scheidler and the Pro-Life Action League, a small non- profit that operates on an annual budget of $800,000, compared to Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area's budget of more than $15 million.

The Act was signed into law on August 28, 2007, just a week before Planned Parenthood accused pro-life advocates of fomenting violence in local newspaper ads and in a letter to the Aurora City Council. Judge Judith Brawka interpreted it and the letter to City Council as being protected because the ad contained a line urging readers to call their local alderman.

"Under this interpretation, the Citizen Participation Act has been used not to protect, but to penalize citizen participation -- to the tune of $317,000," said Tom Brejcha, Scheidler's attorney and chief counsel for Thomas More Society/Pro-Life Law Center. "The enormity of Planned Parenthood's fee demand underscores the chilling effects on First-Amendment rights that will inevitably follow the ruling in this case."

"They're turning the Citizen Participation Act completely upside- down," Scheidler said. "Powerful Planned Parenthood is trying to intimidate me into dropping my libel case under threat of financial ruin for my small non-profit organization and my family -- but it won't work."

Scheidler and his attorneys will return to court on November 12 to respond to Planned Parenthood's fee petition.

ERIC SCHEIDLER AND HIS ATTORNEYS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INTERVIEW.

PRO-LIFE DAY OF SILENT SOLIDARITY

Hundreds of Thousands of Students Will Refuse to Speak on October 21st, as They Stand in Solidarity with Those Who are Killed Every Day by Abortion
Stand True hosts 5th annual Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity Tuesday, October 21st

TROY, Ohio, Oct. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Stand True, Christ-Centered Pro-life, will hold its fifth annual Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity ( www.silentday.org) on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Hundreds of thousands of students will be taking a vow of silence to stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters who are permanently silenced by abortion. Last year students from over 4,600 campuses in 19 countries participated and the growth this year is exponential.

"The students are speaking loud and clear, they want an end to legalized child killing" said Bryan Kemper, president of Stand True Ministries. "We are getting thousands of e-mails, comments and internet messages from students thanking us for giving them a peaceful way to stand up and be counted."

Here are just a few of the comments we have received from the students.

"I was almost aborted! So I am standing for all the babies who weren't as lucky as me."

"I'd just like to say that abortion is just utterly wrong. My mom had two abortions before me and she suffers from the emotional scars every day. I always wondered what it would be like to have an older brother or sister and I'll never know."

"This is one of the most powerful and influential stands I've ever been called to be a part of, awesome guys."

"All I want to say is I once was pregnant and didn't even think about what I was doing when I had an abortion. At the time it seemed like a good idea, but then I realized what I had done and felt so horrible. I just couldn't help it, I started crying. Then I heard about this and wanted to be a part of it. I want to give a voice to the child I didn't have, so I really take this to the heart and will do this with much amore!"

"Thousands of American babies are permanently silenced every day by the violent act of abortion," said Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life. "This is a day for pro-life students to honor those children as they stay silent as an act of solidarity with these innocent victims."

Students will not only remain silent but will also wear red armbands and/or red duct tape on their mouths, and distribute educational flyers to anyone who asks why they are silent. Many home-schooled students will also participate in the event by visiting local malls and other public areas to distribute flyers.

Participating students are instructed to be respectful to teachers and other officials and to speak with them when required.

Over the past few years many schools have tried to stop students from participating and quash their First Amendment rights. Every year, attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund defend these students and file lawsuits to protect their rights.

There is no cost to participate in the event. Flyers are available for download in PDF format at www.silentday.org or www.standtrue.com.

Legal help for students involved is available from the Alliance Defense Fund (www.telladf.org or 1- 800-TELL-ADF).

Care Net Celebrates 25th National Pregnancy Center Conference in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Oct. 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Care Net kicked off its 25th National Pregnancy Center Conference on Wednesday in Atlanta, Georgia. The event will attract more than 1,400 pregnancy center staff, volunteers, and friends and feature more than 125 workshops, a host of powerful speakers, worship, and fellowship opportunities. To many, the Care Net conference is like a refilling station with spiritual refreshment for those who work and volunteer in pregnancy centers across North America.

Care Net President Melinda Delahoyde will deliver a keynote address to attendees focused on two main themes: looking back with respect on the past - honoring those who have served in the movement - and looking forward with hope - casting a vision for uniting the passion of pregnancy centers with operational excellence.

"Pregnancy centers would not be where they are today if it weren't for the faithful pioneers who brought this movement into existence," said Delahoyde. "As we celebrate our 25th national conference together, we honor their sacrifice and entrepreneurial spirit."

Delahoyde will also discuss Care Net's vision for the next 25 years and announce new Care Net initiatives to promote excellence within the movement. "Care Net will continue to come alongside pregnancy centers with top-notch training, critical resources, and expert guidance," said Delahoyde. "Care Net's driving passion is that pregnancy centers, and those that serve within them, are known for both their incredible compassion and their outstanding services to those in need."

Joining Melinda Delahoyde as keynote speakers are Pastor Chip Ingram from Atlanta and Rev. Herb Lusk from Philadelphia, as well as Gary Thomas, Lysa TerKeurst and Michele Pillar. Specialty workshop tracks will be offered on a wide range of topics including multicultural outreach, leadership development, medical services, legal issues, and client marketing. In conjunction with the conference, Care Net is also hosting the S.O.U.L. (Sanctity of Urban Life) Summit, an educational opportunity about pregnancy center development for African American church leaders from urban inner city areas.

Care Net is a Christian, non-profit organization that seeks to promote a culture of life through the delivery of valuable, life-affirming, evangelistic ministry to people facing unplanned pregnancies and related sexual issues. Care Net supports a network of 1,100 pregnancy centers in North America and operates, in conjunction with Heartbeat International, the Option Line call center and website that assist women in need 24/7.

Helper's of God's Precious infants

One of my favorite Pro-Life groups that I belonged to in New York, when I was an active Pro-Lifer, was the Helpers of God's Precious Infants. Every Saturday (some weekdays too) we would gather at the local abortion mill to pray and counsel the young girls and their men, who were entering that horrible place to kill their babies. Of course we were very peaceful and most of us held some sign showing aborted babies. We prayed Rosaries, Litanies, sang hymns. Msgr. Reilly was our spiritual director and after, when the mill was closing for the day, we would return to Father's church, where he celebrated Mass for us. It was always a great joy when we were told how many of the girls decided to keep their babies or just went home to think it over because of our presence. Some of the girls even came to thank us and some had their baby baptized by Father. Yes, there were trying times, especially when we were threatened by the pro-aborts, called nasty names, spit upon, confronted face to face, but mostly everyone kept their cool. One day one of the pro-abort people accused me of pushing them to the police, who were always there sitting in the squad car. It was very upsetting to me that someone would just lie like that, but the police didn't do anything cause it was his word against mine. But I think about and pray for all the Pro-lifers who have gone to jail defending the unborn!

So, if you haven't prayed with a group in front of a clinic yet, why don't you try it? It's very rewarding and you will be saving lives, the babies and the mothers. Blessed Mother Theresa of Calcutta said that when a women has an abortion, two people are killed; the baby and the mother. Of course she was talking about the salvation of that woman's soul. May God have mercy on their souls!
Deacon John
