May mothers in need experience Christ's loving care as we seek to live out His Gospel of Life.

Reflection

Twenty-five years ago, Pope St. John Paul II wrote that the Gospel of life is at the heart of Jesus’ saving message to the world (Evangelium vitae 1). In taking on human flesh, dwelling among us, and sacrificing his very life for our redemption, Christ reveals the profound dignity of every human person. Jesus calls each of us to “care for the other as a person for whom God has made us responsible” (EV 87). The Gospel of life is intrinsic to the whole Christian life and foundational to the decisions we make on a daily basis. For, “the Gospel of God’s love for man, the Gospel of the dignity of the person and the Gospel of life are a single and indivisible Gospel” (EV 2).
Let us reflect on how we personally live out the Gospel: Do I help pregnant and parenting mothers in need? If a friend became pregnant in challenging circumstances, would she know she could come to me for loving support for her and her baby? Do I know of the places in my community where she could receive material help if she needed it?
Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, may Our Lord grant us the grace to truly and courageously live his Gospel of life.

Acts of Reparation (Choose one.)

  • This month we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Seek Our Lady’s intercession by praying a Rosary for this month’s intention.

  • Give up coffee, sweets, or snacks for a week.

  • Offer some other sacrifice or prayer that you feel called to do for this month’s intention.

One Step Further

On October 22 the Church celebrates the feast of Pope St. John Paul II. In honor of his feast day, read a brief summary of Evangelium vitae (The Gospel of Life).

40 Days For Life: DAY 9: No more hailing Satan

Bellingham, Washington is one of the most aggressive pro-abortion communities in the United States.

This past spring, our local 40 Days for Life campaign faced constant persecution, threats and harassment--including passersby hailing Satan.

We responded by hiring a professional security company to protect our peaceful prayer volunteers exercising their rights...

...and it's working! Security guards have deterred abusive behavior, resulting in a much more peaceful 40 Days for Life experience for vigil participants.

One security guard even shared that spending so much time at the vigil converted him from pro-choice to pro-life!

But the security guard isn't the only person impacted by the peaceful witness of 40 Days for Life volunteers.

Bellingham campaign leader Michelle reports that abortion supporters have approached her to thank her for supporting moms facing crisis pregnancies!

Columbus, Ohio

"We had our first turnaround of the campaign today," wrote Beth, the longtime vigil leader in Columbus. "It was by one of our regular sidewalk counselors from 'Team Thursday'...with prayer support from St. John Neumann Church, who adopted today."

Beth described the saved baby as "especially poignant" because just a few weeks earlier, the sidewalk counselor had been harassed by Planned Parenthood's security guard. It looks like God had the last word!

Waterford, Ireland

Two years have passed since Ireland legalized abortion in a landslide referendum.

Legalization was a devastating blow, but pro-lifers aren't giving up. Waterford has joined Cork as a second 40 Days for Life location on the Emerald Isle.

Vigil participants hope to reclaim Ireland for life. "Well done, Waterford pro-lifers!" said 40 Days for Life Director of International Campaigns Robert Colquhoun.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

Heavenly Father, I thank you for your love and saving grace in Christ Jesus. Help us to realize every day the great blessing we have in our Savior. I pray that we will rise every morning with excitement and zeal, looking forward to walking another day in your footsteps fully knowing that you continue to dwell among us.
