San Diego pro-lifer enters congressional race in 53rd district

"Safeguarding the dignity of life for everyone"

Pro-life activist Mari Hamlin Fink has entered the race to defeat U.S. Rep. Susan Davis, D-San Diego, in the November 2010 elections in California's 53rd Congressional District.

Davis, a five-term Democrat, has a well-established record of support for abortion. She voted against the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, a ban on partial birth abortions, and opposed the Stupak Amendment, which added a prohibition on federal funding for abortion to the House's version of healthcare reform. Davis has consistently won high ratings from groups like Planned Parenthood and NOW.

Fink is seeking the Republican nomination in an effort to face Davis in the general election. Fink, a mother of three and a practicing Catholic, is well known in San Diego for her pro-life activities.

"I can no longer sit on the sidelines and watch irresponsible politicians in Washington spend away the future of our children and grandchildren," said Fink in a statement issued when she announced her entry into the race. "When elected to Congress, I pledge to fight for the taxpayer, cut wasteful spending, protect the homeland and preserve our Constitutional rights."

"Mari is a strong conservative who is committed to creating opportunities for American workers, protecting the interests of taxpayers, strengthening national security, securing our borders, and preserving retirement age citizen programs including Medicare and Social Security," said the announcement. "Mari is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, protecting traditional marriage and safeguarding the dignity of life for everyone, especially the disabled, elderly and unborn."
