Senate Projections Find Republicans, Democrats Have Even Chance to Win

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new projection form respected polling firm Rasmussen Reports finds Republicans and Democrats have about an even shot at capturing control of the Senate and the power to set the agenda on abortion and President Barack Obama's pro-abortion judicial nominees.

New polling in Connecticut moves the state's Senate race to Solid Democrat from Leans Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Balance of Power rankings.

Meanwhile, other polling released today in West Virginia moves the state's Senate race to Leans GOP from Toss-Up.

"Current projections suggest that the Democrats would hold 48 seats after Election Day while the Republicans would hold 48. Four states are in the Toss-Up category (California, Illinois, Nevada, and Washington). All four Toss-Ups are seats currently held by Democrats," Rasmussen explained.

Republicans have the edge in six Democratic-held Senate seats--Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wisconsin, the polling firm noted.

At the moment, no Republican-held seats appear headed for the Democratic column. Full story at LifeNews.com

Original Whistleblower Condemns Anniversary of China One-Child Policy

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Steven W. Mosher, the internationally recognized China expert who originally alerted the West to that country's one-child policy, denounced the Chinese government's recent statements praising the policy on its 30th anniversary.

Mosher further condemned statements by an upper-level Chinese official that the policy will be continued for "decades to come," as terrible news for the Chinese people and for China's future economic growth.

Mosher, who was present in China in 1980 when the policy was originally handed down, calls China's draconian measures an "unmitigated social disaster" that have made China the "ugly poster child of forced abortion and coerced sterilization."

As for the Chinese government's glib defense of its population control measures, Mosher says that the policy has existed in part to "help maintain the muscular rigor of the one-party dictatorship that rules China."

"China is a police state, after all," Mosher continues, adding that "such a state, to remain strong, must have something to police. Economic controls have been loosened over the past 30 years, so control over other aspects of life must be tightened. The brutal one-child policy is one consequence of such a system's relentless drive for control over people's lives."

"The Chinese government," Mosher concludes, "supported by foreign population control zealots, believe that its program should be held up as a population control role model for the rest of the world. In reality, it should be roundly condemned for its widespread and systematic violations of human rights, especially the rights of women." Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Targets Minorities Like Tobacco Companies Target Smokers
by Alveda King

If you want to quit smoking, do you look to cigarette manufacturers for advice? The answer s obvious. But like some tobacco companies that actually provide their own guidance on how to stop smoking, Planned Parenthood is now offering advice on how to reduce abortions in the African American community.

Pardon my skepticism, but I find it hard to believe that the nation s largest abortion provider wants to reduce its profit margins.

The abortion industry, Planned Parenthood in particular, has been stung recently by data and events that point toward racism in its very core. African American women are 4.8 times more likely to have abortions than white women. Even though blacks comprise only 13 percent of the population, we receive 37 percent of all abortions. Perhaps most revealing seven offices of Planned Parenthood were caught on tape this year as willing to accept donations for the sole purpose of aborting black babies.

In light of such news, what s a business built on euphemisms, obfuscation, and outright lies to do?

Well, apparently the plan is to follow the lead of the tobacco industry. Like cigarette manufacturers who talked about everything and anything except their own internal memos, Planned Parenthood s attempting to distract attention away from its practices. Full story at LifeNews.com

Best Kept Secret of Adult Stem Cells: They Are Treating Multiple Sclerosis
by David Prentice

Washington, DC -- Adult stem cell success treating patients has been noted as the best-kept secret in the galaxy by Dr. Jean Peduzzi Nelson of Wayne State University. In her recent Senate testimony she described the case of Barry Goudy, who had relapsing-remitting MS. Barry had numerous relapses and medication was not helping his condition.

He was treated as part of a study conducted at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and received his own adult stem cells in 2003. His MS symptoms disappeared in 4 months, and he continues to be symptom free today.

Barry is not a single case. Results were published in 2009 in Lancet Neurology by Burt and colleagues, where they reported that they had reversed the neurological dysfunction of early-stage multiple sclerosis patients. As Dr. Burt noted:

This is the first time we have turned the tide on this disease.

These were patients who were still having relapses despite interferon beta treatment. All of the treated patients stopped the normal progressive worsening associated with MS, and a significant functional improvement was noted in these patients.

In a similar study published in 2010, University of Bristol researchers led by Dr. Neil Scolding describe the one-year follow-up of six patients who showed improvement in muscle function. Patients stabilized or improved in a disease that is characterized with progressive decline in function.

Catholic Pro-Life Group Supports Candidate to Replace Congressman Bart Stupak

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The race to replace retiring Rep. Bart Stupak is really heating up and the pro-life group Catholic Vote has endorsed a pro-life candidate to replace the man many pro-life advocates consider the sellout for pro-abortion ObamaCare.

"You remember Stupak. He claimed he would fight until the end to keep a ban on abortion funding in the health care bill. We stood up for him, and he abandoned us. Worse, he went to the House floor and attacked you for being a hypocrite," says an Burch, the president of CatholicVote Civic Action.

For those in Stupak's northern Michigan congressional district, that's not the end of the story.

Bart Stupak endorsed his protégé Gary McDowell and pledged to do everything he can to elect him. And like Stupak, McDowell supports the health care bill as is -- even with no protections against taxpayer financed abortions.

"Here s an idea let s replace Stupak with a principled and courageous Catholic doctor who knows the harm Stupak has done," Burch says. "A pro-life Catholic physician has decided to take on Stupak s hand-picked successor. His name is Dr. Dan Benishek, a pro-life Catholic surgeon who understands our health care system inside and out."

Benishek wants to repeal the health care law and he may get a chance to vote for that as right now is polling even with McDowell and CatholicVote is preparing an avalanche of radio ads in this district. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Day of Silent Solidarity Just Weeks Away, Helped Stop 80 Abortions

Washington, DC(LifeNews.com) -- On October 19th, people from all over this nation will give up their voices for a day in solidarity for these children. Red arm bands and duct tape will identify them as taking part in the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity.

They will carry fliers explaining why they are silent and educate others about the plight of the innocent children we are losing every day. Will you lose your voice for a day for those who will never have one?

Organizer Bryan Kemper told LifeNews.com: "We need your help to make this the biggest year ever. Last year we saw over 80 girls cancel abortions in one day; who know how many we never even heard about?"

Lou Engle of The Call has enthusiastically endorsed the event.

Bryan Kemper is one of the great prophetic voices to the young people of America who has stood resolute in the face of opposition for the life of the unborn. Kemper s Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity has galvanized tens of thousands of young people to a silent prayer that shouts louder than words to the heavens and to the earth," he says.

Engle adds, "I challenge every young person in America to take their stand on this day of public silent prayer and watch God use the weak things to confound the wise and the things that are nothing to nullify the things that are. Join the great justice movement of our day. God end abortion and send revival to America. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Group Names Abby Johnson Its "Hero at Heart" Award Recipient

Cincinnati, OH (LifeNews.com) -- Life Issues Institute is pleased to announce this year s recipient of its prestigious Hero at Heart Award. The honor has been given to Abby Johnson, former director of a Texas Planned Parenthood abortion facility.

The Hero at Heart Award recognizes select individuals who demonstrate outstanding courage or compassion on behalf of innocent human life.

Abby Johnson has clearly demonstrated pro-life courage. Immersed in a pro-abortion environment, Abby was assisting with an abortion procedure via ultrasound. Faced with the reality that abortion kills an unborn baby, Abby had the courage to reject pro-abortion rhetoric, resign from her job and publicly take a stand on behalf of women and their unborn babies.

The timing of this award is particularly meaningful, said Bradley Mattes, Executive Director of Life Issues Institute. This week marks the first anniversary of Abby s conversion to being pro-life. Abby was in the lion s den, but had the courage to speak truth to evil. Since then she s been a marvelous and effective spokesperson for the pro-life movement. I m very proud to present this award to her.

Due to Abby s heavy travel schedule, in order to present the award at the time of her first anniversary, Mr. Mattes caught up with her by phone on the road. The award will be physically presented to Abby later this month. Full story at LifeNews.com

New York Times Shows It's Clueless About Embryonic Stem Cell Research
by Wesley J. Smith

I see a lot of bad reportage in this work. Some of it is due to ignorance. Some of it is bias. Some of it is laziness. Some of it is bad reporting. And some of it is caused by a sector that is shrinking with fewer bodies to cover an, if anything, expanding story bank.

I don't know what the cause is, but a NYT story seeking to motivate people to demand that the Feds pass a law allowing the NIH to fund ESCR in the wake of the Lamberth decision ruling that doing so violates current federal law, gets a lot of things wrong. Let s start with what the writer doesn't report. Full story at LifeNews.com

Babies the Movie -- A Positive Portrayal of Children From Four Continents
by Matthew Warner

Last year I mentioned the movie Babies and that it would be coming out in 2010. Last weekend I finally saw it. I liked it.

There is no plot or story line really. And there is no dialogue or script. There is a little bit of talking from the mothers. And there is some crying and cooing from the babies. The rest of the soundtrack is music and the sounds of everyday life for four babies in four very different parts of the world. It is really simple and makes for a neat movie experience.

If you haven't heard of it, the movie is a documentary capturing the lives of four babies from first breath to first steps from four different parts of the world: Mongolia, Namibia, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

The underlying message is that babies are babies. It doesn't matter if they are born in a hut or a hospital. If they have lots of toys or just a pile of dirt to play with. Or if they are sheltered from everything, or left to play outside with the livestock. They still act like babies. They still do the same things, have pretty much the same challenges, and develop basically the same way. Full story at LifeNews.com

West Virginia Poll: Pro-Life Jon Raese Now Holds 6-Point Lead Over Manchin

Charleston, WV (LifeNews.com) -- Republican John Raese now holds a six-point lead on Democratic Governor Joe Manchin in West Virginia s surprisingly competitive Senate race.

The race is one that could put Republicans over the top in wresting control of the Senate from the pro-abortion leaders who currently run the chamber.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in West Virginia finds Raese, who is pro-life, with 50% support, while the state s highly popular governor earns just 44% of the vote. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided. Full story at LifeNews.com

Delaware Poll Shows Pro-Life Christine O'Donnell Trailing Pro-Abortion Coons

Dover, DE (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll from Farleigh Dickinson University provides bad news for pro-life advocates hoping pro-life Delaware Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell would be able to knock off pro-abortion Democrat Chris Coons.

Republican Senate candidate Christine O Donnell is actually better known to Delaware s likely voters than Democrat Chris Coons: 93% say they have heard of Coons, while 97% say they have heard of O Donnell. Nonetheless, according to the most recent poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University s PublicMind, Coons leads O Donnell 53%-36% in the special election.

Democrats have largely united behind Coons: 85% say that they will vote for their party s nominee. However, only 68% of Republicans say that they will vote for O Donnell. Independents lean to Coons by 46% to 37%. Full story at LifeNews.com

Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) -- Rep. Roy Blunt holds a double digit lead over Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan in the state's Senate battle, according to a new poll.

A CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday indicates that 53 percent of likely voters support the seven term Republican congressman, with four in ten backing Carnahan, the Democrat's nominee, in a fight between two of Missouri's leading political dynasties.
