Obama HHS Secretary Sebelius to Host Pro-Abortion Fundraiser
President Barack Obama s top health official, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, will host a massive fundraiser for one of the nation s biggest pro-abortion organizations next month.

With Obama s polling numbers looking grim, the Obama administration is already cozying up to pro-abortion groups to raise the financial and grassroots support he needs from liberal Democrats in order for the president to have a shot at winning his re-election bid next year. Earlier this week, the chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama was the keynote speaker at a NARAL event. Now, Sebelius is headlining a fundraiser for the organization.

Sebelius will be the featured speaker at the 17th annual Power of Choice luncheon NARAL is throwing in Chicago at The Standard Club in Chicago, Obama s stomping grounds, on October 5. The event is clearly a big fundraiser for NARAL as tickets for anyone other than college students and young professionals start at $200 and top sponsorship levels range anywhere from $2,500 to $25,000.

NARAL touts Sebelius appearance saying she is guiding the implementation of the historic Affordable Care Act, the Obamacare legislation that contains abortion funding and rationing concerns. Although NARAL has been worried about whether Obamacare, once fully implemented, will fund abortions, Bill Saunders of Americans United for Life says there s no doubt that will happen. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/obama-hhs-secretary-sebelius-to-host-pro-abortion-fundraiser/

Planned Parenthood in Waco, Texas Cuts Staff After De-Funding
After one Planned Parenthood affiliate closed four centers following Texas decision to yank a considerable amount of taxpayer funding the abortion business receives, now the Waco, Texas abortion center has announced it is making cuts.

Planned Parenthood of Central Texas informed the Waco Tribune newspaper it is scaling back the number of appointments it is making at its abortion center, where it had 8,000 customers for abortion and non-abortion services last year. The abortion facility is also cutting staff and has reduced the number of nurse practitioners from three to one.

Felicia Goodman, community affairs director for the local Planned Parenthood, told the newspaper she is worried the cutbacks will make it so fewer women schedule appointments with the abortion business.

If people have to wait too long, they either give up or they go to the emergency room, Goodman said.

The legislature, when it made the budget cuts involving Planned Parenthood, put a renewed focus on providing women and community residents with better health care in non-abortion settings and shifted funding priority in Waco to Waco s Family Health Center for primary health care services. Allen Patterson, Family Health s chief financial and operating officer, told the newspaper that the health clinic, which does not do abortions, will expand if necessary to accommodate new clients seeking non-abortion health care or family planning services.

Goodman said the cuts have made it so Planned Parenthood of Central Texas is looking at merging with the Austin Planned Parenthood affiliate by the end of the year to cut back on administrative and office expenses. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/planned-parenthood-in-waco-texas-cuts-staff-after-de-funding/

Woman Who Rejected Abortion During Cancer Wows X-Factor Show
Pamela Cook wows the X-Factor Australia audience with her soulful rendition of Kelly Clarkson s hit Because of You but what wows me is her pro-life testimony at the beginning.

For those of you who might not be able to view the video, she explains that last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer while being 16-weeks pregnant. Pamela says: The doctors encouraged me to terminate the pregnancy but that wasn t an option for me and they said it would be much easier to treat (the breast cancer) but my partner and I had lost the baby the year before and that just made it not even on the table.

Planned Parenthood in Tennessee Gets 2nd Chance for Tax-Funding
The county government in Memphis has given the Planned Parenthood abortion business a second chance to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funding that pro-life advocates thought would be revoked.

Shelby County Health Department director Yvonne Madlock announced earlier this month that, after significant lobbying from pro-life advocates, Christ Community Health Services would receive the $397,000 contract with the county for family planning rather than Planned Parenthood.

But, in a 6-4 party-line vote, the Shelby County Commission has decided to postpone that decision and allow Planned Parenthood more time to make its case that it should continue receiving the tax money. Democrats Walter Bailey, Melvin Burgess, Sidney Chism, Justin Ford, James Harvey and Steve Mulroy voted for the delay while Republicans Mike Carpenter, Terry Roland, Heidi Shafer and Chris Thomas voted against it, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

A committee of six people reviewed the grant requests and Christ Community scored higher than Planned Parenthood for its ability to provide the family planning services. However, Planned Parenthood executive Barry Chase complained to the press about the scoring and the county commission agreed to delay the change in funding. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/planned-parenthood-in-tennessee-gets-2nd-chance-for-tax-funding/

Romney Nearly Catches Perry in New GOP Presidential Poll
Mitt Romney has almost caught up to Rick Perry, a new Rasmussen poll shows, after Perry underperformed in two recent debates and following attention from other candidates and the press on Perry s views on Social Security.

Perry, the pro-life Texas governor, has maintained leads in polls over the last two weeks following two recent Republican debates, but he has been ceding ground to Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is on his second bid running as a pro-life candidate for the Republican nomination.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of likely Republican voters shows Perry with 28% support and Romney capturing 24%. Before Perry entered his first debate, the Texan held an eleven point advantage over Romney, 29% to 18%.

The survey makes it clear Perry is the top candidate for conservative and very conservative voters among conservative GOP primary voters, Perry leads by nine while Romney is the favorite for center-right and moderate Republicans, where he leads by 12.

The poll also shows 75 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Romney while 73% feel that way about Perry. But Perry s support is more enthusiastic 33% have a Very Favorable impression of him while just 23% say the same about the man from Massachusetts. Rasmussen also indicates Perry is supported by 36% of Evangelical Christian voters along with 31% of Catholic voters. Romney is backed by a plurality (31%) of Protestant voters. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/romney-nearly-catches-perry-in-new-gop-presidential-poll/

Adult Stem Cells Tested to Treat ALS (Lou Gehrig s Disease)
An Israeli company is conducting a clinical trial using a patient s own adult stem cells to treat ALS (Lou Gehrig s disease.) The method using adult stem cells was developed by professors at Tel Aviv University. Cells are taken from a patient s own bone marrow and differentiated in the lab into astrocytes, cells responsible for nurturing neurons in the brain. By releasing neurotrophic factors, which are proteins that can protect brain cells, the former bone marrow adult stem cells can protect and preserve brain cell function.

Prof. Daniel Offen, one of the developers of the technique, says he and his team bypassed the ethical and safety issues inherent in embryonic stem cells by using adult stem cells derived from a patient s own bone marrow. In addition, he notes that because the original cells are drawn from the patients themselves, the body should have no adverse reactions.

The clinical trial has been started at Jerusalem s Hadassah Medical Center, but could be expanding soon to Massachusetts General Hospital in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts Medical School. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/adult-stem-cells-tested-to-treat-als-lou-gehrigs-disease/

New Video Highlights Obama-Planned Parenthood Relationship
The Susan B. Anthony List has released a new video exposing the close relationship between pro-abortion President Barack Obama and the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

The SBA List criticizes the close relationship between the president and his political ally, the largest abortion business in the United States. After key groups of his base supporters have abandoned him, Planned Parenthood remains closer than ever to the President, the video says and it calls on Americans to turn off the music by supporting efforts to revoke Planned Parenthood s taxpayer funding.

He was the most popular guy at the party. Big smiles and tall tales, the video says. But the longer he stayed, the less he s liked.

First, the small businessmen left him. Then, union workers, college kids, and soccer moms, the ad continues. But through it all, one friend has stuck with Barack Obama: the abortion providers. And his dedication knows no bounds. For them, he promised to shut down the entire federal government. Threatened to slash Medicaid for the poor in Indiana. Even offered to pay for abortion clinics in New Hampshire with our federal tax dollars.

Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood, it concludes. They won t stop until America turns off the music. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/new-video-highlights-obama-planned-parenthood-relationship/

Last weekend, a militant group of more than 300 pro-abortion activists attacked a much smaller group of pro-life demonstrators, who had gathered to pray peacefully in front of a hospital in Paris where abortions are done. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/france-pro-abortion-activists-violently-attack-pro-lifers/

Washington Post Laments Fewer Abortions on Minority Children
The Washington Post, as most mainstream media outlets, suffers from a common ailment among journalists: cluelessness. Eugenically speaking, they did Margaret Sanger proud. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/washington-post-laments-fewer-abortions-on-minority-children/

Time to End Funding for UNFPA Over Forced Abortions in China
In August, Vice President Joseph Biden delivered remarks in China stating that he was not second-guessing China s one-child policy: Your policy has been one which I fully understand I m not second-guessing of one child per family. [1] While Biden and the White House later tried to backpedal from those comments, actions taken by the Obama administration actually lend taxpayer support to it, through U.S. contributions to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which is complicit in China s coercive one-child policy. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/time-to-end-funding-for-unfpa-over-forced-abortions-in-china/

Why Do Peyton Manning, Americans Leave U.S. for Stem Cell Treatment?
The United States has arguably the most advanced health care in the world. Which is why I was surprised at how many Americans are going abroad for stem cell treatments using their own adult stem cells. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/21/why-do-peyton-manning-americans-leave-u-s-for-stem-cell-treatment/
