From CMMB: The Baby Named Emmanuel

A healthy child, clean water, food, and a better future - that's what they hope for.

So very long ago, a child was born into a broken world, surrounded by little more than a loving family and wrapped in meager swaddling clothes.

Does this story sound familiar?

It did for Carrie Flaherty, a volunteer nurse at St. Therese Hospital in South Sudan. In her first five weeks volunteering at the hospital, 11 children died, all under the age of 10.

Vulnerable children who are innocent bystanders in a deadly conflict, often forced from their homes, vast distances away from any type of quality healthcare. Children who are often starving and suffering from preventable diseases.
Who inspires Carrie?

"St. Theresa of Calcutta. She literally changed the world, one person at a time. I remember watching a documentary about her when I was a child, which showed footage of her feeding an emaciated man, using her hands to scoop rice into his mouth. I was disgusted, but at the same time fascinated, and I couldn't look away. I remember thinking that was the last thing I would ever want to do with my life. Luckily, the Lord has worked on my heart since then and I am eager to follow in her footsteps."
With the holiday season approaching, wish lists for mothers in these difficult areas is pretty simple: a healthy child, clean water, food, and hope for a better future.

Carrie remembers how God entered our broken world as a baby - an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. Vulnerable not only to the violence of mankind but the dangers of disease, hunger, drought, and displacement. "Why? I don't know. But, perhaps in order to redeem every aspect of the human experience. He is with us in our deepest need. The baby named Emmanuel - God is with us."

That child born so long ago changed the world. You can change the world for a child born into poverty today. Give them a chance. For a limited time, your gift will be MATCHED, dollar for dollar, reaching even more children in need.
