Children like Djethro Need Help

Djethro Measured in the Red ZoneDjethro was in the Red Zone when we first met him. He was suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

Thanksgiving may look a little different for us this year, but for too many children living in poverty, it will be another day without enough food to eat. Children like Djethro from Haiti.

We first met Djethro two years ago, when he was just eight months old and already suffering from severe acute malnutrition. He was in the Red Zone. Djethro was so weak, he didn’t even have the energy to cry. Djethro’s father was doing his best to support his family but most days, they only ate one meal. For a young child, the implications of malnutrition can be devastating and irreversible. Djethro urgently needed nutritional support and access to healthcare.

CMMB heard of Djethro’s story and began supporting him and his family. Djethro started receiving a nutritional supplement called PlumpyNut and was closely monitored by a team of community health workers and nurses. Djethro’s health improved, he gained weight, and today, he is enjoying being a three-year-old child!

Djethro's health has improved

There are too many children in Djethro situation who never get this kind of support. The UN estimates that that an additional 6.7 million children could suffer from acute malnutrition as a result of COVID-19.

For decades, CMMB has worked with local partners on the ground—making it easier for us to deliver supplies to the last mile even in times of crisis. CMMB is providing nutritional supplements and medicine to the most vulnerable. Even in the face of great adversity, we must continue to deliver these life-saving supplies. Please consider making a donation to help children facing hunger. Children like Djethro cannot wait.
