The Texas Heartbeat Act: The good, bad, and ugly

The Personhood Alliance

The good, the bad, and the ugly of the Texas Heartbeat Act

The Texas Heartbeat Act has caused chaos in the abortion industry and wild celebration in the pro-life movement. But what exactly is in the law, why did the Supreme Court refuse to obstruct it, and will temporary gains bring long-term protection to pre-born children in Texas?

The Personhood Alliance celebrates that this law has no exception for rape and incest or fetal anomaly. All human beings are created in the image of God and have equal worth and dignity, regardless of manner of conception, disability, or medical prognosis. This is the standard we and all of our affiliates hold up consistently and without compromise.

But as we celebrate the lives saved in the legal turmoil and confusion Texas’s law has caused thus far, we must also consider four major points of concern:

  1. Pre-born children without detectable heartbeats are not protected, and the detection is in the hands of the abortionist.
  2. There is an explicit exception for “medical emergency” that is ripe for exploitation.
  3. The law is not enforceable apart from civil lawsuits, which may only provide temporary gains.
  4. The law still bows to the tyrannical power of the U.S. Supreme Court and the unjust decision of Roe v. Wade.

We're not just another pro-life organization.

We believe in the power of the People to make a real difference at the local and state levels.

The Personhood Alliance is a confederation of 28 independent affiliate organizations, both Catholic and evangelical, who stand on the biblical principles of personhood in defending human life and human dignity in the 21st century.

We seek to stop the killing of pre-born children without exception, and we reject the regulation of abortion. We also defend human life and human dignity from other direct assaults, such as assisted suicide, euthanasia, human trafficking, disability discrimination, unethical advances in science and technology, the push for non-human personhood, and the relentless attacks on God's design for marriage, family, gender, and sexuality, particularly when these attacks target children.

All of these issues have one thing in common: They are part of a coordinated assault on the Image of God, as reflected in His wholistic design for the human person.

We hope you will join us on this epic battlefield!
