Bishops Investigate Report: 39 Abortions, 9684 Sterilizations Performed in Texas Catholic Hospitals

By Tim Waggoner

AUSTIN, TX, July 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - An anonymous report providing evidence from government statistics has indicated that 23 Catholic hospitals in Texas performed 39 abortions and 9684 sterilizations between 2000 and 2003.

As reported by Our Sunday Visitor, the State of Texas makes all hospital inpatient records publicly available. An anonymous group used this data to compile a report on the alleged immoral activities taking place in Catholic hospitals and released it to the website, Wikileaks, which operates in order to house this kind of information.

A spokesperson for the group said they released the information in order to increase awareness of the immoral practices Catholic hospitals were engaging in, but were afraid of retaliation and therefore remained anonymous.

According to Andrew Rivas, director of the Texas Catholic Conference, the official voice of the Texas bishops, an investigation into the accuracy of the reports has already been initiated by the bishops.

Our Sunday Visitor asked obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Michael DeGroot to analyze the data in the report, which contains many codes representing certain medical practices. He said that the code V25.2, which appeared many times, indicates that "sterilization for contraceptive purposes," was being performed. The abortion codes, however, were more complicated and he said he could not issue a definitive assessment on them.

Rivas said there is no deadline set for the bishop's investigation, but they have been engaged in intense conversations with many hospital authorities over the report.

On the Front Lines: Pregnancy Center Diverts More Than Two Million Dollars From the Abortion Industry in Las Vegas, NV

"They will proclaim His righteousness to a people yet unborn -- for He has done it." Psalm 22:31
LAS VEGAS, July 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- With God, nothing is impossible! Since opening our doors Mid-December 2004, more than 3,700 babies' lives have been saved from abortion through one pregnancy center, First Choice Pregnancy Services in Las Vegas, NV! In just over 3 years, more than two million dollars has been diverted from the abortion industry in Las Vegas!

Endorsed by Focus on the Family, we quickly became one of the busiest pregnancy centers in the nation. In the year 2007 alone, by God's grace, First Choice shared the Good News with more than 2,800 women, performed more than 1,300 free ultrasound exams, and helped to save more than 1,400 babies' lives!

Location, location, location! First Choice is located a couple hundred feet from what is believed to be the busiest abortion clinic in southern Nevada, sharing the same private cul-de-sac. God's plan is always strategic! A Christian mission, we effectively joined the battle for the unborn, right on the front lines.

Small beginnings paved the way for great things. Today, we humbly watch God multiply our time, talent, love and resources as He saves more than 100 babies' lives - each month - through First Choice! Through the grace of God, many prayers, partners and the efforts of First Choice, the abortion industry has been dramatically impacted!

What is it like "On the Front Lines?" It is miraculous, amazing, awesome and fast-paced; fulfilling and sometimes heart-wrenching, but always filled with God's love and mercy. We are told frequently by visitors, both clients and fellow pro-life supporters, that there is a noticeable "Presence" when one enters our center. "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord.

Setting a new standard, as other pregnancy centers send their own staff to train at First Choice Pregnancy Services, God is impacting the nation through one center. Our personnel know and pray, "Nothing is too difficult or too wonderful for You, God!" Stationed "On the Front Lines," we humbly watch as God continues to perform mighty exploits on behalf of the unborn!

GUEST POST FROM MARK MALLETT:

Calling an Apple a Peach

THERE is more coming on the Seven Year Trial series which I am continuing to write and pray about. In the meantime, more signs of the times

LOSING FOCUS

There is a story circulating throughout major news services in the Western world regarding a ‘man’ who has supposedly had a baby. The only problem with the story is that it’s not a man at all but a woman who had her breasts removed, and who takes hormones so she can grow facial hair.

She had a baby this week. This in itself is not remarkable, even though she was impregnated with a syringe normally used to feed birds. What is astonishing is that nearly every media outlet insists on calling this woman a "man" or referring to her as "he" as if this were a completely normal thing.

BENDING REALITY

Just because the media—or the politicians and humans rights tribunals—want to call an apple a peach, it does not change the fact that the apple is still an apple (even if it has a bit of peach fuzz on its chin). The purpose of such strategy, of course, is to desensitize the public. If we call an apple a peach long enough, then many people will begin to accept this, even though logic, reason, and nature itself dictate that the apple is not, nor can it ever be a peach. If a man were to graft a cat tail to his backside and implant whiskers, and insist to the media that he was a feline, would they begin to report that he was a cat?

Such is the fruit of a society which has come to embrace moral relativism as its central ideology. If everything is relative, then everything, or rather anything, can become morally acceptable given enough time and enough sympathy (or apathy) by the general public. Reason and logic are not guiding principles, nor are natural and moral law. And what God has to say is not even remotely in the picture. If His voice is included, it is only an interpretation of what the person feels God is saying, not what He actually said.

Thus, the world is now on a subjective path where women can say they’re men, scientists can create hybrid human/pig clones, and abortionists such as Canada’s Dr. Henry Morgentaler can be awarded the highest civic honor in the country—a man who is personally responsible for over 100, 000 deaths of the unborn. Because all is relative. There are no absolutes. Next year, perhaps it will be a human/pig who receives the Order of Canada.

For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths. (2 Tim 4:3-4)

THE STUMBLING BLOCK

There is only one major stumbling block to this new world religion: the Catholic Church. While a fairly significant number of members of this Church have fallen prey to moral relativism, the Church per se has not. The teachings of Catholicism are as Jesus said they would be: built on rock, unshaken in the storms which have assailed her each century. The Church will not say, nor can she every say, that an apple is a peach. She will love the apple, and she will love the peach, but she will never be false and say one is the other.

The Church accepts people as they are. Jesus says the church is like a net, it pulls in everybody, everybody belongs to the Church, there are sinners, there are saints, there are people with wrong ideas. But the Church continues to proclaim what Jesus taught. There is no room in the Church for the acceptance of aberrational ideas. There is room in the Church to accept, to understand and to love people whoever they may be. Not to tell them that what they are advocating is right, not to justify it. That is quite different… There are some people who say the Church is intolerant—no! We accept people but we cannot be unfaithful to Christ. We will not accept gay marriage. The Church has explained this over, and over and over again and she will have to continue to explain it. —Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, LifeSiteNews.com, June 28th, 2008

Make no mistake: the enemies of the Church understand this immovable position. In an open editorial criticizing the outspoken Canadian cleric, Bishop Fred Henry, members of one of Canada’s strongest gay advocacy groups wrote:

…we predict that gay marriage will indeed result in the growth of acceptance of homosexuality now underway, as Henry fears. But marriage equality will also contribute to the abandonment of toxic religions, liberating society from the prejudice and hatred that has polluted culture for too long, thanks in part to Fred Henry and his kind.Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell, Purging Toxic Religion in Canada; January 18th, 2005; EGALE (Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere)

Toxic. Prejudiced. Hate-mongerers. Polluters. And we should add to the list "fools", for that is what St. Paul said we would be called by the world for holding fast to the truth.

HOLDING FAST

I remember a homily a priest gave on gay marriage. It was simple, but powerful. He said,

We know that if you mix blue and yellow together, you get green. But there are some in our society who insist that if you mix yellow and yellow together, you still get green. But it does not change the fact that only blue and yellow can make green, as much as they want to say this is not the case.

The Church is obligated to speak the truth about marriage and the human person, not because she is a rulebook keeper, but because she is the guardian and dispenser of truth—truth which sets us free! An apple is an apple. A peach is a peach. Blue and yellow make green. As my wife says, "The DNA has the final say." We are what we are. These are truths the Church will uphold, even at the cost of shedding her blood. For without truth, there can never be freedom, and that freedom was bought at a price… the blood of an innocent Man, God Himself.

If we tell ourselves that the Church ought not to interfere in such matters, we cannot but answer: are we not concerned with the human being? Do not believers, by virtue of the great culture of their faith, have the right to make a pronouncement on all this? Is it not their—our—duty to raise our voices to defend the human being, that creature who, precisely in the inseparable unity of body and spirit, is the image of God? —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Address to the Roman Curia, December 22nd, 2006

Whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the Gospel will save it. (Mark 8:35)

Infanticide?
by Deal W. Hudson
07/03/08

Infanticide is becoming a touchy subject for Barack Obama. So much so that his supporters either deny that their candidate ever voted against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, or they describe his votes as "procedural," as if Obama never really opposed providing medical treatment for infants who survived an abortion.

The facts show otherwise.

The Born Alive Infant Protection Act was first introduced in the Illinois legislature in 2001 after nurse Jill Stanek revealed that babies born alive in Christ Hospital in botched abortion procedures were left to die, unattended by medical personnel.

That same year Stanek testified before the Judiciary Committee, where Obama asked whether the bill would subvert a woman's right to abortion. Obama voted against the bill in committee but "present" on the Senate floor.

When the bill was reintroduced in 2002, Obama again voted against it in committee and was the only state senator to speak against it on the Senate floor. Again the bill was defeated with Obama voting "no" and leading the opposition.

Here is what he said...

Operation Outcry Testimony Influences Second Court to Protect Women from Abortionists

MEDIA ADVISORY, July 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit on June 27th upheld South Dakota's statute requiring abortionists to tell a woman that "the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being," defined as a member of the human species (Homo sapiens).

The most basic question many women ask before an abortion is "Is it a baby?" One would assume that abortionists and courts would be able to answer this question. However, Planned Parenthood does not want to tell women abortion kills a human being. They consistently do not tell women that abortion is being performed on a human being, a member of the species Homo sapiens, a living organism.

The women of Operation Outcry are extremely pleased that the Courts are now listening to real women who have been hurt by abortion and beginning to protect women from abortionists, rather than listening only to Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion seller. The women of Operation Outcry and other women are also extremely pleased that the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals cited the portion of the Supreme Court's recent Gonzales v. Carhart decision in which the testimony of post-abortive women of Operation Outcry was cited to show that "some women come to regret their choice to abort the infant life they once created and sustained. Severe depression and loss of esteem can follow."

The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals cited this Supreme Court passage on page 16 of its opinion.

This citation of post-abortive women's pain by this second major court demonstrates again that the voices of the women of Operation Outcry are beginning to have a deep and long lasting impact on the courts of the United States.

While the Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit have now recognized that abortion hurts some women, the Supreme Court also said "we find no reliable data to measure the phenomenon." That is why Operation Outcry needs more declarations (legally admissible evidence) to take back to the Supreme Court. Women can go to www.operationoutcry.org and complete the Declaration form online (confidentially) or download it and mail it in. We need One Million Voices to take back to the Supreme Court to show them the size of the problem.

Lisa Dudley, Director of Outreach for Operation Outcry, and one who has suffered from abortion herself, said: "I am thrilled that the courts have taken an important step towards protecting women's lives. Women like me, who have had abortions, need to complete the Declaration to give more evidence to courts who are dealing with abortion. It is time to stop the pain."

A copy of the opinion is available on our website, www.operationoutcry.org.
