Right to Life in Spain

EUROPE/SPAIN - "Right to Life" platform group formed to fight law proposed by the government: "a fight to save human lives and for the survival of our society"

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – On September 23, HazteOir presented the platform group "Derecho a vivir" ("Right to Life") in Madrid. The group has been formed in order to fight against the approval of the abortion law being proposed by the government (see Fides 9/9/2008). There was also a Committee of Experts presented as an alternative to the Committee "Aido" that was created by the Department of Equality and whose purpose is to use propaganda to justify the promotion of abortion through this new law. The committee is made up of 16 lawyers, gynecologists, professors of biomedical science, and psychologists, who will produce a series of reports which they will present to the Government and members of Parliament in order to spread awareness among lawmakers and society, with the clarity needed, the reality of abortion and its consequences. The platform groups' spokesman, Dr. Gador Joya says that the initiative is a response to the Government's refusal to include a representative with a pro-life perspective on the team of experts from the Department of Equality.
In the report issued by the new association, they affirm that "Spain's law abandons the woman in her plight and presents abortion as if it were her only solution. Every 'abortion law' is a terrible act of hypocrisy against women, and a despicable crime against the children that it harms." They also decried the fact that "in Spain, pregnant women are not offered information or social help in these difficult situations, and yet there is funding available for them to go and abort."

Ignacio Arsuaga, President of HazteOir, has written a letter encouraging all to join in this initiative in favor of life and against abortion. He also affirms the fact that in order to stop this law on abortion availability in Spain, "we are going to spread awareness and mobilize the majority of Spain's citizens. We are going to act in three areas: Internet, the street, and thoughts."

"It is a fight to save human beings," the letter says, "boys and girls whose survival depends on the initiative, time, and effort that we are capable of dedicating to this task. It is also a fight to save the women that society tries to convince, saying that abortion is the only solution. They are women who, if we do nothing to stop them, will suffer the terrible pains of post-abortion syndrome. We are also fighting for the survival of our society, because a community that allows – and even promotes – the murder of its most vulnerable citizens, is a community headed towards extinction."

In order to reach this goal, the President of HazteOir is making a campaign, asking that everyone that can, participate, "united to the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of citizens who are aware and committed to fight for the human being, will become a tool for communication" capable of winning out in the end. "Thus, we count on your support in taking the initial steps in reestablishing the right to life in Spain,"
