Assisted Suicide Support Drops to Lowest Level in 8 Years
Gallup released the results of its latest poll today evaluating the views of Americans on various controversial issues or decisions and whether Americans believe they are morally wrong or morally acceptable.

It found the percentage of people who say doctor-assisted suicide is morally acceptable has dropped to its lowest level in 8 years. Currently, 48 percent of Americans say doctor-assisted suicide is morally wrong while just 45 percent say it is morally okay. The views of Americans on the subject has bounced around slightly over the years with a majority of 51 percent in 2008 saying the practice is morally acceptable. The last time just 45 percent of Americans said it was all right was 2003.

Gallup found 51 percent of Democrats, 50 percent of independents and just 32 percent of Republicans who say they find assisted suicide morally acceptable. When looking at an age breakdown, the views of Americans are largely consistent with just 46 percent of those 18-34, 45 percent of those 35-54 and 43 percent of those 55 and older saying assisted suicide is morally okay.

Had Gallup used the term assisted suicide without including the word, doctor, support likely would have decreased further.

When examining the issue of abortion, Gallup found more firm opposition as 51 percent of Americans say abortion is morally unacceptable versus 39 percent who do not have moral qualms with the practice of destroying human life before birth. As is the case with assisted suicide, views on abortion have changed only slightly over the years, with no more than 43 percent of Americans saying abortion is morally okay (2006) and a low-water mark of 36 percent saying so in 2009. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/assisted-suicide-support-drops-to-lowest-level-in-8-years/

Senate Gets 100K Petitions Asking to Stop Tax-Funded Abortions
A national pro-life organization has sent more than 100,000 signed petitions to members of the Senate urging them to allow a vote on a bill that would prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions across every department of the federal government.

Signaling that emotions still run high over taxpayer funding of abortions through ObamaCare and directing taxpayer monies to the nation s biggest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, Concerned Women for America delivered 101,000 petitions from its members to the U.S. Senate last week demanding action on the legislation.

This issue is long from resolved, and Americans are still fired up that their dollars are funding abortions, said Penny Nance, CEO of the conservative women s group.

It was the issue of abortion that very nearly felled ObamaCare, and it was only when a very small, but powerful group of so-called pro-life Democrats caved at the 11th hour that the massive legislation passed, continued Nance. The issue of taxpayer-funded abortion will most certainly be a concern in the upcoming presidential election. Americans don t want their money funding abortion.

Nance said polling data shows a large majority, over 60 percent, of Americans even those who identify themselves as pro-choice do not want their dollars funding abortion. She said that is evidenced by the fact that CWA obtained the signatures in a matter of weeks on the petition.

The petition read in part, As a pro-life American citizen, I am sickened over continued efforts by the abortion industry to use my tax-dollars to fund the destruction of innocent life. I urge you to use your political position to champion the plight of the unborn in our nation in the following ways: Support any and all legislative efforts to permanently prohibit taxpayer funding for abortion services in the U.S. and abroad. Support a federal ban on the funding of abortion and abortion related services both here and abroad. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/senate-gets-100k-petitions-asking-to-stop-tax-funded-abortions/

Planned Parenthood Prez: Emulate Late-Term Abortionist George Tiller
Earlier this month, Planned Parenthood abortion business president Cecile Richards delivered an address to the Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health award ceremony in New York City. There, she told pro-abortion doctors to be more like late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller.

You represent our future and you honor the memories of Doctors George Tiller and William Rashbaum and you advance the cause to which they dedicated their lives, she said. No one knows that better than Jeanne and Rebecca Tiller. Having you both here tonight means so much to us all seeing you instantly reminds us of George his kindness, his courage, his wisdom.

George was a remarkable man, a remarkable doctor, Richards said, looking ahead to today, the anniversary of the shooting death that claimed his life. We have a credo at Planned Parenthood developed by the great Lynne Randall which is that we each must strive to be more like George. More determined. Braver. Kinder. Of course, you are all like George.

Although no one in the pro-life community including Operation Rescue president Troy Newman lent any support to the men who killed Tiller, urging pro-abortion doctors to emulate the late-term abortion practitioner would have them taking the lives of unborn children late in pregnancy, violating state abortion laws and killing and injuring women in botched abortions.

He s become St. George to the abortion movement now because he was martyred to their cause, Newman said in 2009.

Before his death, the state board that monitors doctors was close to revoking Tiller s medical license on allegations that he falsified the age of unborn children before the late-term abortions that took their lives. He allegedly did so to stay within the confines of state law. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/planned-parenthood-prez-emulate-late-term-abortionist-george-tiller/

Model Kathy Ireland: De-Fund Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
Add supermodel Kathy Ireland to the list of people wanting Congress to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business by cutting the millions of dollars it receives to promote its agenda.

I think Planned Parenthood needs to reassess and look at what their values are, what their mission is, what their goals are, and do they deserve government funding? For example, there are non-profits that I m involved with, and we don t get government funding, Ireland told FOX411 s Pop Tarts program. We go out there, and if you really believe in this strongly enough to fight it for it, go get the funding.

To force people who don t agree with some of the practices, I don t believe in that. I don t think tax payers need to fund something as controversial as [Planned Parenthood], she added.

Ireland is not new to holding steadfast pro-life views when it comes to abortion, but she fold the Fox program it has cost her friends in the entertainment industry.

I ve never set out to win a popularity contest. I came from [being previously pro-choice], but when I was confronted with the science and I spoke to top scientists throughout our country asking, Would you please just show me some shred of evidence that the unborn is not a human being? and no one has been able to show me any, and I will continue to fight for those human rights until someone can show me otherwise, she continued. So a lot of people get mad at me, but that s okay. I listen to criticism because sometimes there are things to learn, even if it s wrapped in a nasty package.

Ireland is also confronting the battles over life and death on the end of life spectrum, as she told the YWCA Greater Los Angeles in a speech recently as the organization honored her with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award at its Saluting Women Who Are Instruments of Change ceremony. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/model-kathy-ireland-de-fund-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz/

Congress Must Cut UNFPA Funds to Stop Forced Abortions
You are funding forced abortions in China. So am I. Not only elective abortions. Forced abortions. It doesn t matter whether you are pro-life or pro-choice on this issue. No one can support forced abortion, because it is not a choice.

What do I mean by forced abortions? Here s a short video about a young, Chinese woman who was dragged off the street, strapped to a table and forced to abort at seven months (www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjtuBcJUsjY). You can read many more accounts of forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide under China s brutal One Child Policy here.

According to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China report, released on October 10, 2010, violators of China s One Child Policy continue to be victims of forced sterilization, forced abortion, arbitrary detention, and other abuses.

The One Child Policy has also led to many other serious human rights violations. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/congress-must-cut-unfpa-funds-to-stop-forced-abortions/

Text Messages to Teen Inside Abortion Business Saves Baby
A teen mother, who was saved from a coerced abortion last October after a sidewalk counselor texted her while she was inside the clinic, has given birth to a beautiful, healthy boy named Manuel.

The little boy was born on May 10 weighing 7 pounds. The following week, his mother proudly graduated from high school.

Tara Shaver, a former intern for Operation Rescue, was sidewalk counseling outside Planned Parenthood in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she received a call from a woman who told her that her grandson s girlfriend was being forced to get an abortion that she did not want. The woman told Tara that her grandson, the baby s father, also wanted to keep the baby. They were desperate, because the girl was only 17 and her mother was insisting on the abortion against the girl s will. The grandmother gave Tara the teen s cell phone number.

Tara began a text-message conversation with the teen, who we will call Jane, while she was inside the abortion clinic. Jane was six weeks pregnant and was interested in seeing an ultrasound of her baby, but still did not want to go through with the abortion. She told Tara that her mom would not allow her to leave the clinic.

Tara continued to encourage her and even texted Jane a photo of a pre-born baby at six weeks, the same age as her baby. Texting keep their conversation private where a phone call would have alerted the mother or the abortion clinic staff to Tara s efforts to help Jane. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/text-messages-to-teen-inside-abortion-business-saves-baby/

Salon Writer Mikki Kendall Admits Embellishing Abortion Story
On my blog last week I posted an excerpt from the Salon piece, Abortion saved my life. The writer, a blogger named Mikki Kendall, was relaying her first person account of supposedly nearly hemorrhaging to death because a hospital doctor refused to perform the one procedure that would save her life, an abortion. Here was the quote I pulled:

I don t know if his objections were religious or not; all I know is that when a bleeding woman was brought to him for treatment he refused to do the only thing that could stop the bleeding. Because he didn t do abortions. Ever.

The story headline and subtitle: Abortion saved my life: I almost died in an emergency room because the doctor on call refused to perform a necessary procedure. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/salon-writer-mikki-kendall-admits-embellishing-abortion-story/

Scotland Sees Abortions Drop After Rise Over Several Years
A new report from the health department in Scotland shows abortions are down after rising for a period of several years from 2002-2008. Last year 12,826 abortions were done on women and unborn children in Scotland, compared with 13,108 in 2009. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/scotland-sees-abortions-drop-after-rise-over-several-years/

Wisconsin Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Should Lose Funding
The Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee recently voted to direct state and some federal family planning funds to public health agencies and prohibit those agencies from giving the funds to organizations and their affiliates that provide abortions or do abortion referrals. In effect, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, as the state s largest abortion provider, would not be able to receive these funds. It is far past time for the state and federal governments to stop feeding this abortion giant with taxpayer dollars. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/wisconsin-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz-should-lose-funding/
