WASHINGTON,

Oct. 25, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Morality in Media (MIM) is launching its second Be Aware: PORN HARMS National Awareness Campaign Oct. 30 - Nov. 6 in conjunction with the 24th White Ribbon Against Pornography Week with more than 20 national events planned to help individuals understand and cope with harms of pornography.

"Pornography is bringing harm to all areas of society," said Patrick Trueman, president of MIM. "It is destroying families and is the main contributor to the exploitation of women and children. Pornography is the gateway to the sex industry and the harm must end."

Be Aware: PORN HARMS was first launched in July of 2011 with great success, reaching hundreds of thousands in 81 countries with more than 40 online events. This was the first time in recent years that groups representing many social perspectives collaborated to raise awareness about the issue, so MIM is using the campaign again.

"This year's WRAP week campaign will include collaboration with ex-porn stars, a neurosurgeon, the LDS church, filtering companies, scholars, therapists, Internet safety experts, feminist leaders and many more," said Dawn Hawkins, executive director at MIM. "We are even providing a Spanish language event and Spanish handouts this year."
Morality in Media has been the national sponsor of WRAP since its creation in 1987. Many strong victories against pornography have been won with the encouragement of this effort. By incorporating Be Aware: PORN HARMS into this tradition, more victories are expected by increasing awareness of the harms from pornography.

"Throughout the week events will be accessible through our website,www.PornHarms.com/beaware," Hawkins said. "We will be streaming documentaries about the links between porn and human trafficking, hosting discussions with past porn performers, providing education on understanding pornography addiction and offering steps to keep children safe. There will be something for everyone."
