Planned Parenthood Closing Michigan Abortion Referral Center
Planned Parenthood is closing yet another center its fifth in the last few weeks and this one comes in Sturgis, Michigan. The center did not do abortions but made referrals for them to abortion centers elsewhere.

Bob MacKenzie, vice president of medical business development of Planned Parenthood s Michigan affiliate told the Sturgis Journal newspaper that the closing is related to economic and financial reasons. The abortion business already closed centers in Hillsdale and Sturgis and is now closing facilities in Three Rivers and Coldwater as well.

These closings in no way alter our commitment to the many families in this region who are one unplanned pregnancy away from economic disaster, MacKenzie said. Staggering reductions in federal and state funding over the past two years have demanded that we optimize our resources. We have notified our patients that they can continue to receive seamless, high quality care at our health centers in nearby Kalamazoo or Battle Creek, MacKenzie told the newspaper. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/planned-parenthood-closing-michigan-abortion-referral-center/

Oh Wow. Steve Jobs Last Words Raise the Ultimate Question
When I was a lad, my mother told me about the death of her grandmother in the 1920s. She was speaking to angels, mom told me. At least that is what she had told her family gathered around her bed.

When I was a hospice volunteer, I visited one of my patients a few days before he died. When his wife left the room, he told me that he could hear his mother calling him. Here s the thing: His mother was long dead and the voice he heard was hers, he told me, and used the nickname that only she had ever called him. Am I going nuts? he asked me. No, I told him, thinking of my own mother s story, it s perfectly natural. Is it really my mother? he asked. I don t know, I replied. But I hope it is.

Another friend, who died of breast cancer far too young, told me shortly before her death that she had experienced a vision of being held in the arms of Jesus. She was a faithful Catholic and it gave her great comfort. We all have such stories. I bring this up because Steve Jobs last words, as reported by his sister Mona Simpson, seemed to imply that something awesome was happening to him. The columnist Peggy Noonan also noticed. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/oh-wow-steve-jobs%E2%80%99-last-words-raise-the-ultimate-question/

Ambulance Rushes Woman to Hospital After Botched Abortion
Late last week, another woman in California became the latest to be injured by a botched abortion as an ambulance rushed her to the hospital not long after she told pro-life sidewalk counselors she was getting an abortion.

Pro-life advocates helping women with abortion alternatives noticed a woman get out of a vehicle with a Christian symbol on the back just before Christmas on Thursday and head into the Stockton Pregnancy Control Medical Clinic abortion facility. An hour and a half later, she was wheeled out on a gurney and loaded into an awaiting ambulance for emergency transport to a nearby hospital.

The woman had told pro-life activist Don Blythe as she entered the abortion clinic that she was quite confident and happy with her decision to have an abortion. Blythe had attempted to offer her practical help and information in an attempt to help her save the life of her baby, according to Operation Rescue officials who notified LifeNews of the failed abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/ambulance-rushes-woman-to-hospital-after-botched-abortion/

Planned Parenthood Hurts Women s Health Program Over De-Funding
The news of the Obama Administration s decision to coerce Texas into including Planned Parenthood in the Medicaid-funded Women s Health Program has been widespread. The administration has demanded that the abortion committer be included or all federal funding to the program will cease permanently.

What has remained virtually unknown, however, is that Planned Parenthood itself called for the destruction of the Women s Health Program, in the event that they were barred from participating.

In May 2011, Planned Parenthood lobbied in Austin, Texas against new rules that banned abortion providers and any abortion affiliates from receiving funds under the Texas Women s Health Program. The abortion giant heavily promoted a lobby day to get supporters to beseech their state representatives to grant funding to Planned Parenthood under WHP rules. They distributed a letter to the Lieutenant Governor and two high-ranking senate members calling for the bill that would have renewed the program to be killed. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/planned-parenthood-hurts-womens-health-program-over-de-funding/

The 12 Days of Pro-Life Christmas: Marking Victories in 2011
It s been a tremendous Year in the Life of Americans United for Life. We celebrated 40 years of service, working to ensure that everyone is welcomed in life and protected in law.

Historic votes took place, and pro-life legislators, armed with AUL s model legislation, research and support, passed new laws to make their states, and this great nation, a place where all are valued and where fewer tax dollars are wasted in support of the abortion industry.

The pro-life community has much to celebrate as the year draws to a close. In the spirit of the music that marks the season, one song in particular seemed perfect for illustrating how your commitment to Americans United for Life over the last 40 years has helped create an impressive body of work. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/the-12-days-of-pro-life-christmas-marking-victories-in-2011/

Woman Lies Upside Down for Three Months to Avoid Miscarriage
Every so often in the pro-life world there are inspiring stories like this one that offer a vivid juxtaposition between the culture of death (abortion) and a culture of life whereby a mother goes well above and beyond the call of duty to protect her unborn children.

Donna Kelly had suffered from repeated miscarriages and was desperate to ensure, when she found out she was pregnant again, that her unborn baby had the highest possibility of surviving. Kelly, 29, suffers from a very weak cervix and was at high risk of losing her latest baby, but she decided to lie upside down at a 45 degree angle for three months to give her child the best survival odds possible. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/woman-lies-upside-down-for-three-months-to-avoid-miscarriage/

Nurses Were Right to Resist Pressure to Assist Abortions
A major victory for conscience protections last week.

This was indeed a great victory, and the credit goes to twelve brave and principled nurses who stood their ground, and attorney Matt Bowman of the Alliance Defense Fund for his skillful and equally courageous defense of the nurses. There is a fundamental principle at stake here, one that is testing all of our established human anthropology, metaphysics, ethics, and jurisprudence.

Are medical professionals autonomous human beings or vending machines acting at the behest of patients and the state?

A government hospital in New Jersey was extremely backward thinking. They claimed that the medical professionals must assist in procedures that their well-formed consciences told them was inhuman and immoral, legality notwithstanding. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/nurses-were-right-to-resist-pressure-to-assist-abortions/

Ron Paul Joins GOP Candidates in Signing Pro-Life Pledge
Congressman Ron Paul becomes the fifth Republican presidential candidate to sign a new pro-life pledge affirming that unborn children join people after birth in deserving protection of their right to life. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/ron-paul-joins-gop-candidates-in-signing-pro-life-pledge/

Pro-Life Women Invite Tim Tebow to Join March for Life
When hundreds of thousands of pro-life advocates participate in the March for Life in Washington next month, the pro-life women at Concerned Women for America hope he will join them at the event. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/pro-life-women-invite-tim-tebow-to-join-march-for-life/

The U.S is Backward on Embryonic Stem Cell Research
I am beginning to believe that it is true that Americans in general have no idea about how things really are in the rest of the world. For example, I am sure that many in the Occupy crowd have no idea that they are among the richest people in the world. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/the-u-s-is-backward-on-embryonic-stem-cell-research/

No Place for Pro-Life on Pro-Life Violence as We Fight Abortion
I recently had a conversation with a formerly avid pro-choicer and abortion clinic worker who has since, thankfully, after years of soul-searching and inner turmoil, come over to our side. She told me something I didn t know and which blows my mind a little more every time I think about it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/23/no-place-for-pro-life-on-pro-life-violence-as-we-fight-abortion/

Liberals Hypocritical in Opposing Sex-Selection Abortion Ban
As Christians prepare to celebrate the birth of the most important child in history, pro-life Americans would be wise to renew their emphasis on an element of the abortion debate that strongly favors their side: banning abortions based on the sex or race of the unborn child. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/liberals-hypocritical-in-opposing-sex-selection-abortion-ban/

Pennsylvania Court Rules on Rubber Stamp Teen Abortions
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has issued a decision clarifying how minor girls can obtain a judicial bypass allowing them to go around the state s parental involvement law to get an abortion without their parents knowledge. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/12/26/pennsylvania-court-rules-on-rubber-stamp-teen-abortions/
