With Valentine's Day just a few days gone, we reflect on the recent actions of the government in relation to the spirit of this day of celebration. Valentine's Day is a day to show love, respect, and kindness to our fellow human beings. Yet, people of faith and people of conscience are bathed in disgust and disdain from those who feel they have the right to make all the decisions regarding the treatment of human beings. Commercial Appeal 

A federal judge's ruling has temporarily halted the Tennessee Department of Health's decision to rescind funding for Planned Parenthood's HIV and syphilis testing program. Today, U.S. Dist. Judge William Haynes granted a preliminary injunction filed by Planned Parenthood, which is suing the state over $150,000 in dropped grants. A portion of the grant money supported HIV testing at Planned Parenthood affiliates including the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center.

An oft-repeated claim from a White House official about the rate of contraceptive use among Catholics has touched off a firestorm of controversy, with some contending that the statistic is not only irrelevant to the legitimacy of the HHS birth control mandate, but also grossly inaccurate. Critics of the statistic point out that the study on which it is based was conducted by the research organization founded by Planned Parenthood, and that the study was explicitly designed to include only women who were most likely to use contraception - and excluded those most likely to follow Catholic teaching on the issue.
