40 Days For Life: DAY 40: Vigil Stops a Suicide

Your prayers, fasting, and outreach through your local 40 Days for Life campaign save the lives of many babies...

...but babies aren't the only people whose lives are saved by your efforts. On her recent visit to a prayer rally in Escondido, California, 40 Days for Life outreach director Ramona Trevino was told about a man who encountered the local vigil...as he was on his way to take his own life.

Fortunately, before he reached his destination, the man stopped to converse with a deacon praying in front of the abortion facility, and the discussion saved his life.

"His life was spared," Ramona said. "And he was so touched by the witness of those out on the sidewalk that he returned to pray at the vigil!"

This isn't the first time the presence of 40 Days for Life prayer warriors has prevented a suicide.

It's a powerful reminder that you never know how God will use your "yes" to change lives and to save lives!

Hawaii

Hawaii's 40 Days for Life campaigns pulled out all the stops for one of the most ambitious community outreach projects we've ever seen!

Anne and her team brought former Planned Parenthood manager turned whistleblower Mayra Rodriguez in for a whirlwind tour of the islands.

During the trip, Mayra shared her powerful testimony about how she was fired after being falsely accused of having narcotics in her desk--all because she called out her facility's abortionist for a series of botched abortions.

Mayra addressed Catholic and Protestant Churches, Knights of Columbus, pregnancy centers, and, of course, vigil sites.

"Blessings galore!" said Honolulu leader Anne. "God made it a huge success! ... Praise God for what He is doing and what He will do!"

"Rip City" isn't exactly known for being a pro-life part of the country, but you wouldn't know that based on the success of the local 40 Days for Life vigil.

On one recent Saturday, 47 prayer volunteers joined the vigil, making it a record-breaking day of attendance. That record was almost matched a week later when 46 pro-lifers prayed in front of Portland's downtown late-term abortion facility.

"I am witnessing incredible pro-life momentum here in Oregon the past few months," said Archdiocese of Portland pro-life coordinator Sarah Livingstone. "I believe Oregonians are realizing that the fight is at the state level, and most do not support Oregon's extreme pro-abortion laws."

Watertown, New York

Local 40 Days for Life leader Flora has a trio of ladies who join her vigil every single day of the campaign!

"The cold rainy day didn't stop these faithful prayer warriors from standing in front of Planned Parenthood," Flora said. "They were there when it was 10 degrees and snowing also."

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"

--Revelation 21:4-5

Father, you are the God of hope. Your word fills us with the vision of the world to come, when every tear will be wiped away and death will be no more. Father, how we need that hope, how we are strengthened by that vision! Keep our hearts focused on heaven and diligent in the labors of earth. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory.
