NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., July 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Members of the Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust will be gathering outside of Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach during a fundraising event this Sunday, July 13th at 1:00PM to appeal to Barack Obama to repent of his radical abortion policies.
The young people of Survivors are teaming with Reverend Patrick Mahoney of the Christian Defense Coalition and other pro-life groups in appealing to Obama through demonstrations, rallies and protests at his public appearances. The pro-life groups will be praying and calling for Barack Obama to adopt a true Christian position and help end the tragic war against America's children which has resulted in over 50,000,000 abortions.
Cheryl Conrad, Director of Survivors states, "Mr. Barack Obama claims to be a practicing Christian. What we are doing is calling on him as fellow believers. We are calling on Mr. Obama to come to grips with the fact that you cannot be pro-choice without undermining what it means to be a Christian. A Christian can no more be pro-choice about killing children before they are born than he can be pro- choice about killing a two year old. To endorse or even be neutral about killing innocent children created in God's image is unthinkable in Scriptures and should be unthinkable to Christians today."
Gingi Edmonds, member of Survivors, adds, "We will be peacefully protesting the views of Obama on abortion. History condemns politicians who defended slavery because it was unpopular to oppose it. We do not want history to condemn Obama for defending what all will someday recognize to have been the killing of innocent children. True Christians do not endorse whatever society claims to be acceptable. They go to the Scriptures to see what God says, and they follow God's word, even if it's unpopular."
Amanda Lord, member of Survivors, "As a Christian, I find it troubling that Mr. Obama embraces what God clearly states is murder and an abomination. Obama professes Christ, yet supports the barbaric procedure of Partial-Birth abortion and wants to expand abortion rights through the Freedom of Choice Act. We are appealing to Obama in the hopes that he will assume a Christian stance on protecting the unborn and see all life as deserving of love, dignity and respect."
Survivors is a Christian, pro-life activism organization dedicated to educating young adults on the issue of abortion in America. The Survivors are committed to taking a stand on behalf of the 50,000,000 lives lost to abortion since the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973.
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.

| Continued Urgent Prayer Need for Jamaica Spirit and Life® readers will be well aware of the ongoing campaign to legalize abortion on demand in the Caribbean nation of Jamaica. Our valiant pro-life friends in Jamaica have just informed us that they need prayer this coming week as the abortion issue comes before their Parliament. I am writing to ask you to join HLI in our effort to spiritually strengthen this nation and its defenders of life. The clash between life and death is heating up. The plan to expand the killing of children in Jamaica has worked its way very patiently through three successive governments over several years and has finally found its way onto the table of Parliament. This is not a positive development, by any means, but it is a unique opportunity for a still pro-life nation to show that it can reject this immoral business. On Thursday, July 3rd, a Joint Select Committee of Parliament held the first of three hearings to discuss the liberalization of the abortion law. On Thursday, July 10th, the second hearing took place, and, at this session, the pro-abortion Ministry of Health presented its views. Both hearings were open to the public and dozens of men and women of conscience showed up to give a poignant reminder to the committee members that the overwhelming majority of the Jamaican people do not want abortion. Indeed, the effort to expand abortion in Jamaica is not in response to any broad-based demand of the populace but is the work of an elite group of individuals in league with radical international organizations who wish to impose it on an unsuspecting population. Typical of such campaigns is the promise that the people will be consulted prior to any Parliamentary vote. However, despite generous assurances of consultation, the only input Parliament has had to date has been from a 13-member "Abortion Policy Review Advisory Group" stacked with abortion sympathizers whose final report looked like it was cut and pasted from a Planned Parenthood textbook. It still remains to be seen whether public consultation will actually take place or whether this is just another illusion. On the positive side, various different pro-life groups and concerned individuals have been invited to make written submissions to Parliament which are due this coming Monday (July 14th), and some of them may be asked to make oral presentations to Parliament very soon. Here is where we need your help! As part of our HLI spiritual family, please pray and fast to help the good people of Jamaica to stop the momentum of this heinous crime against humanity known as abortion. Our pro-life friends have been doing everything in their power to stop this horror from turning into a national nightmare, and undoubtedly our prayer support will help them in their life-and-death struggle. Please beg the Guardian Angel of Jamaica to intercede for their precious babies, families and, indeed, the very soul of their nation! | ||

NAACP Protest and Press Conference to be Held at National Convention July 14 in Support of Macon Chapter Pro-Life Resolution
CINCINNATI, July 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- On July 14, 2008, LEARN (BlackGenocide.org) along with Dr. Alveda King (Niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) and leaders of other pro-life groups will hold a press conference on the public sidewalk in front of the Duke Energy Center. Also, pro-life advocates will picket the NAACP from 9am-2PM in front of the Convention Center.
Historically, the NAACP has failed to address the concerns of many of its delegates about abortion. In 2004, the NAACP issued a resolution voicing support for "equal access to abortion" and urged its members to participate in a pro-abortion rally in Washington, DC. In 2007, the NAACP, for the second time in four years, blocked a proposed resolution expressing opposition to abortion. The good news is the NAACP's Macon chapter is once again poised to present another pro-life resolution at this year's Cincinnati conference and we will be there to support them.
Press Conference Supporting Macon Chapter Pro Life Resolution:
Who: LEARN (BlackGenocide.org) with Dr. Alveda King, and other group leaders
What: Speeches in support of the Macon, GA chapter pro-life resolution.
Where: Public sidewalk in front of the Duke Energy Center
When: July 14, 2008 from 10:00 am-11:00 am
LEARN Statement:
"We hope to show the need for the NAACP to allow discussion at the convention the detrimental health ramifications of abortion. The physical and psychological maladies caused by abortion are deliberately hidden from unsuspecting women. The NAACP needs to bring up the Macon Chapter's pro-life resolution this year. The delegates must have an opportunity to vote on this important measure. We will make it clear that there are delegates that want this issue addressed." -- Rev. Clenard H. Childress, Jr.

TERRI'S PRESS RELEASE

Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation Deeply Troubled by Italian Courts Ruling
An Italian court accepted a man's appeal to remove his daughter's basic care of food and water, the result of which will be a barbaric and inhumane death by starvation and dehydration.
Eluana Englaro has been receiving food and water via a feeding tube since a 1992 car crash that left her with a brain injury. Her father, Beppino Englaro, has been seeking to end her life for nearly 10 years.
"This court's ruling seems to indicate that American 'medical ethics' are spreading like a virus among the international community, threatening countless numbers of elderly, ailing and disabled persons in an increasing and alarming way," noted Terri's brother, Bobby Schindler. "Our heart goes out to this family as we know very well the profound affect that these types of injuries can have on loved ones. However, we must remember that we have a grave obligation to do all we can to protect those with disabilities, recognizing that a person with a brain injury is a human being with an inherent dignity and a right to life. This young girl needs only food and water and her family's love to survive. At the very least this should be provided to her."
The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation, located in St. Petersburg, Fla., is an organization dedicated to promoting the Culture of Life, embracing the true meaning of compassion by opposing the practice of euthanasia.

HLI Humanae Vitae Priests: Benedict XVI and Contraception, Part 2

| Nick Bagileo is Associate Dean for Programs and Administration for the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, at the Catholic University of America. This article is the first of three installments. Benedict XVI and Contraception, Part 2 One of Pope Benedict XVI's most interesting talks dealing with the problem of couples not having children came during an address to the Curia in December, 2006. In his remarks he said an astounding thing about his trip to Valencia, Spain for the Fifth World meeting on Families. He said, "The visit to Valencia became for me a quest for the meaning of the human being." How does the search for the meaning of the human being relate to married couples not wanting children? Answering this question will get to the root evil of contraception and related issues. In this talk, Benedict pointed out that, in the West and Europe in particular, many married couples no longer want to have children. Couples are afraid to have children because becoming a parent seems too great a risk, and sometimes even a burden. Benedict noted that children need loving attention, which requires parents give their children time, the time of our life. "The time we have available barely suffices for our own lives; how could we surrender it, give it to someone else? To have time and to give time - this is for us a very concrete way to learn to give oneself, to lose oneself in order to find oneself." Benedict observed that another aspect of the fear of parenthood centers on the awesome questions involved in raising children, such as, how do we ensure our child follows the right path, how do we respect his or her freedom, what is the correct way to live? These questions arise because the modern spirit has lost it bearings, leading to insecurity about the future. Benedict asks, "Why are things like this?" The Holy Father realizes that issues like contraception and same sex marriage are signs or symptoms of a much more fundamental problem. This larger problem is a theme Benedict XVI has lectured and written on since the Second Vatican Council. The Holy Father reminded the members of the Curia that "the great problem of the West is forgetfulness of God. This forgetfulness is spreading. In short, all the individual problems can be traced back to this question. I am sure of it." Relativism is the philosophic view that there is no absolute truth or certitude and results when Man disregards God, ensuring the impossibility of establishing common moral and religious standards. The Pope's teaching has been so profound and clear that President Bush recently quoted the Holy Father's, now famous, "dictatorship of relativism", line at the White House welcoming ceremony. As a true man of the Council, Benedict is applying the teaching of Gaudium et Spes to our time. "Once God is forgotten, however, the creature itself grows unintelligible." (#36) Benedict notes that forgetfulness of God leads to the dictatorship of relativism, "which does not recognize anything as certain and which has as its highest goal one's own ego and one's own desire." As noted above, Benedict XVI sees issues like contraception, cohabitation and same sex marriage as signs of a deeper problem. Once God is forgotten, Man and the institutions God created to fulfill and nourish his soul become meaningless. Nowhere is this seen more clearly than in the area of marriage and family life. Note how the primary relationship between man and woman - marriage - has been adversely affected the past half century. One of the great blessings of marriage, having children, is now viewed as a threat or burden, by a large sector of the population. Then, the institution itself was attacked further by the epidemic of cohabitation. Marriage itself is no longer viewed as a blessing to be cherished. Now, we have the absurd notion that there is something called same sex marriage. As St. Paul taught us, "...God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen." (Rom.1: 24-25) | |||||

Barack Obama: Fact vs. Rhetoric on Abortion
WASHINGTON, July 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- Senator Barack Obama attempted to qualify his support for partial-birth abortion this week, stating that he did not feel "mental distress" was an acceptable health exception for obtaining a partial-birth abortion, adding "it is not just a matter of feeling blue." The Susan B. Anthony List offered a response and facts on Obama's record:
"Barack Obama knows his extreme record on abortion doesn't resonate with everyday American voters, so now he's trying to soften his image," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "It won't work. From his active opposition to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act to his support for the radical Freedom of Choice Act, Barack Obama is anything but moderate on abortion. Obama's abortion-friendly voting record shows his commitment to abortion on- demand, at any time, for any reason, funded by American taxpayers."
Barack Obama's actual record on Abortion:
- 0% rating with the National Right to Life Committee and 100% rating with NARAL Pro-Choice America
- Co-Sponsor of the "Freedom of Choice Act" (S.1173), legislation that would nullify nearly all state and federal limitations on abortion, including the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, parental notification laws and waiting periods. It would also allow for taxpayer funding of abortions. Obama told members of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund at their conference, "Well, the first thing I'd do as president is, is sign the Freedom of Choice Act. That's the first thing I'd do." (July 17, 2007)
- Voted against an amendment to allow states to provide health insurance for an unborn child through the federal State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). (August 2, 2007, Roll Call No. 302)
- Opposed the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act as an Illinois State Senator, legislation intended to protect babies who survived abortions. Obama spoke against the bill and voted against it three times. President Bush signed a federal version of this legislation in 2002.
- Criticized Gonzales v. Carhart, the Supreme Court ruling upholding the federal ban on partial-birth abortion, saying, "I strongly disagree with today's Supreme Court ruling. . .I am extremely concerned that this ruling will embolden state legislatures to enact further measures to restrict a woman's right to choose, and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade, which is established federal law and a matter of equal rights for women."
- Endorsed by the two major abortion organizations: NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
The Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of Americans, over 146,000 residing in all 50 states, dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. Its connected Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.
