Democrats May Shut Down Government Over Abortion Funding Ban
Senate Democrats on Thursday said they will not pass a bill the House is expected to approve that would keep the federal government funding for another week because it contains a provision banning abortion funding in the nation s capital.

The bill includes language that would put the ban back in place that prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia. This language would restore the Dornan amendment to ensure that no congressionally appropriated funds (whether locally or federally generated) may pay for abortion in the District of Columbia. The good news for pro-life advocates is that the inclusion of the Dornan Amendment in the one-week continuing resolution ensures it remains in place to prohibit abortion funding in the nation s capital for the rest of the year.

Even though former President Clinton signed this policy into law six times and President Barack Obama signed the policy into law for FY09 and voted to continue the policy twice while serving in the U.S. Senate, Obama now opposes a short-term continuing resolution with the language and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said this morning that Democrats will not agree to the legislation.

Reid said on the Senate floor that talks over keeping the federal government running have stalled over abortion and riders on other political issues.

This issue is ideology, not numbers, he said, saying reproductive rights is one of the issues and that Republican s one-week funding bill is a non-starter. Full story at LifeNews.com

House Passes Bill Stopping DC Abortion Funding, Democrats Opposed
The House of Representatives today approved a short-term continuing resolution that would fund the federal government for a week and that contains a pro-life rider stopping taxpayer funding of abortions in D.C.
House members voted 247-181 for the measure, with Republicans sgenerally supporting the bill and Democrats opposed.

Both parties and both chambers of Congress are taking very different positions on how to handle the impasse the two parties have over the budget with Republicans wanting to vote for a pro-life bill Democrats opposed. President Barack Obama and Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid oppose the House-approved bill over the abortion funding and Obama has pledged to veto it.

Americans United for Life Action president Charmaine Yoest applauded the House and commented them for voting reinstate the D.C. Hyde Amendment (the Dornan Amendment), which ensures that taxpayers in the District of Columbia are no longer forced to fund the abortion industry with their tax dollars.

The most bi-partisan budget cuts available to the Congress involve getting the American taxpayer out of the abortion industry, she said. More than 70 percent of Americans don t want their tax money supporting the profitable abortion industry. I commend the Members of the House for continuing to defend the American taxpayer by reinstating the Dornan Amendment, and I call on the Senate to follow suit to protect Americans from being forced to fund abortions. Obama, Reid, Top Democrats Once Supported DC Abortion $ Ban
If the government shuts down on Saturday, military men and women will have to serve while not getting a paycheck. Families planning on spending spring break at one of our national parks will have their vacations ruined. It s also possible that many government websites would be offline during a shutdown.
And why? Just to ensure that taxpayers continue paying for abortions in the nation s capital? How shameful.

It wasn t always this way. For years, the Democratic leadership never really contested the Dornan amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding of abortions in Washington, DC. Of course they voted against the amendment, but they would never torpedo an entire appropriations bill over it. And certainly not shut down the federal government over it.

Well, actually, in Harry Reid s case, he did vote for the DC abortion ban. When it was first introduced in 1996 as a straight up or down amendment, Harry Reid voted to ban federal funding of DC abortions: Boxer Amendment, Roll Call 38. Full story at LifeNews.com

Tapes Show Planned Parenthood Injured Woman in Botched Abortion
The audio tapes of a 911 call in Washington state confirms a Planned Parenthood facility in Washington state was forced to rush a woman to the hospital following a botched abortion.

The Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Everett, Washington sent a woman to the hospital in late March. Local pro-life advocate Mary Emanuel was at the abortion facility at the time and snapped pictures of the ambulance that whisked the woman away from the Everett Planned Parenthood.

We are still investigating as to the severity of the botched abortion and only pray that it was not fatal or caused serious injuries, she said at the time.

Now, Emanuel has obtained the recording of the 911 call Planned Parenthood officials placed to emergency personnel. In the call, the Planned Parenthood caller identifies herself as Pamela and casually tells the dispatcher that abortion center staff have a patient that is bleeding that we need to transfer to the hospital immediately .

We just did an abortion on her, the staffer tells the 911 dispatcher and she confirmed the patient was not yet in shock but asked that the ambulance and emergency responders use the side door of the facility to not draw as much attention.

According to John Hubert of the blog Abortion in Washington, which obtained the tapes and first reported the botched abortion, The woman was taken to Providence Medical Center s Pacific Campus, but unlike in other high profile accident cases, Providence refused to comment on the status of the victim, or to indicate if she had recovered from her injuries. Nothing on the call indicated whether the apparent hemorrhaging was from a perforated uterus or colon as in the case of the ongoing lawsuit against Cedar River Clinics which we broke. In that case also the woman was evacuated by ambulance. She ended up having a hysterectomy, rendering her permanently infertile. Full story at LifeNews.com

Chinese Family Planning Official Kills Man Over Forced Sterilization
Seeking to enforce the one-child policy that involves forced abortions and sterilizations for violators, a Chinese family planning official has been accused of killing a man after attempting to uphold the law.
Reggie Littlejohn, the president of Women s Rights Without Frontiers, a human rights group that monitors the policy and supports victims of it, informed LifeNews.com about the incident.

On March 21, family planning officials entered the home of Xu Shuaishuai to seize his sister for a forced sterilization. Unable to find her, they beat Xu s father and when Xu defended his father from the attack, one of the Chinese population control officials stabbed him twice in the heart with a long knife. Xu died on the way to the hospital.

This murder is a shocking and extreme example of how coercive family planning presses fear into the hearts of the Chinese people every day, Littlejohn said. Women who become pregnant without a birth permit illegally pregnant are terrified of discovery and forced abortion. Fathers feel helpless to protect their wives and children. Paid informants friends, neighbors, co-workers tear down trust in Chinese society. Family members are detained and tortured.

Littlejohn said the one child forced abortion and sterilization policy is causing a demographic disaster for China. Full story at LifeNews.com

Catholic Obama Apologist Kmiec Criticized by State Department
Douglas Kmiec, the Pepperdine University law professor who become one of the leading apologists for electing pro-abortion President Barack Obama, won an ambassadorship from the president to Malta. Now he is facing criticism.

Kmiec became the main Catholic cheerleader for the Obama campaign during the 2008 presidential election and his ringing endorsements of the aggressive abortion advocate drew scorn nationwide. Kmiec continued defending Obama after the election despite his moves to force taxpayers to fund both abortions and embryonic stem cell research that destroys human life. He also came to the defense of Office of Legal Counsel nominee Dawn Johnson, who has compared pregnancy to slavery and is a former lawyer for a pro-abortion group.

In July, 2009 Obama nominated Kmiec as the ambassador to the Catholic country that is a small Mediterranean island just south of Italy. Today, the State Department s Office of Inspector General released an inspection report that faulted Kmiec for spending too much time on non-official writings and speeches.

The report said Kmiec s unconventional approach to his role as ambassador has created friction with principal officials in Washington, especially over his reluctance to accept their guidance and instructions. Based on a belief that he was given a special mandate to promote President Obama s interfaith initiatives, he has devoted considerable time to writing articles for publication in the United States as well as in Malta, and to presenting his views on subjects outside the [scope of his office].
