Jury Empaneled In Tiller Criminal Case

March 18th, 2009

Wichita, KS - The jury was selected today to hear the criminal case against late-term abortionist George Tiller, who is charged with 19 counts of violating a provision of the Kansas ban on post-viability abortions.

Eight people were selected for the jury and will hear all the evidence. After the evidence is presented in the case, two of the jurors will be designated as alternates. Six people will then decide the case. The jury is comprised of four men and four women whose ages vary from young adult to the elderly and retired.

In order to protect the sanctity of this case, Operation Rescue will not publish the names or personal information about the jurors.

Tiller has requested the special privilege of a twelve person jury, but that motion was denied.

Tiller is charged with 19 counts of having committed late-term abortions without the referral of a second Kansas physician who was unaffiliated with him. Tiller instead used abortionist Ann Kristin Neuhaus to sign off on each abortion. The Attorney General's office says that they can prove that Neuhaus and Tiller were legally and financially affiliated.

The abortions in question were done on women and girls as old as 24 and as young as 10 years of age. The pregnancies that were aborted were between 25 and 30 weeks gestation.

"We are placing our confidence not in the court or the jury or any work of man, but in the Divine justice of an Almighty God. The outcome of this trial rests in His hands," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We encourage everyone who can to come to Wichita and join us in praying for justice during the trial next week."

Operation Rescue will be in the court room throughout the trial. We encourage people to listen to the Bott Radio Network for the daily updates provided by Troy Newman. Operation Rescue will continue to post updates during the court breaks at twitter.com/oprescue.
