Lifeissues Newsletter #652

Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends for Life,
While the mainstream media was absorbed with the shutdown, serious pro-lifers were discussing two reports:

1. Bob Unruh, of World Net Daily, discusses the explosive new report from Stop Planned Parenthood International which proves that, as Planned Parenthood leaves, teen pregnancy rates drop: http://www.wnd.com/2013/10/teen-pregnancy-drops-as-planned-parenthood-vanishes/

CBS affiliate News Channel 10 in Texas explores the facts contained in Stop Planned Parenthood International's report: http://www.newschannel10.com/story/23692696/study-compares-panhandle-teen-pregnancy-and-planned-parenthood

2. Stephanie Block discusses American Life League's report on CRS: http://bellarmineforum.org/tag/american-life-league/

Judie Brown and other pro-life leaders sign a declaration that they will not comply with any measure of Obamacare that requires them "to pay for abortion" or forces them "to willfully participate in the killing of innocent children": http://www.wnd.com/2013/10/pro-lifers-to-obama-we-will-not-comply/

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Planned Parenthood): "The Abortion Industry's Business Model (video)""When American Life League published this video a year and a half ago, it reached a quarter of a million people in just a couple of weeks. It was discussed by Laura Ingram, Rush Limbaugh, and Glen Beck. Last week, this explosive revelation on Planned Parenthood's obsession with perversion gained a resurgence and was viewed over 30,000 times in just a few days."
(Abortion): "How the Pill Kills (video)""There is a mandate within Obamacare that insurance companies MUST provide free contraceptives to women as part of the required coverage. We think, then, that it is timely for us to call to your attention a video from one of our conferences. Dr. Angela Lanfranchi is a breast surgeon and clinical assistant professor of surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr Lanfranchi heads up the Breast Cancer Prevention Institute. She gives a riveting presentation of the scientific proof of how the birth control pill (hormonal contraception) kills."

ITEM #1: Six quotes that reveal the truth about abortion

According to a poll done in 2011, 59% of Americans believe that abortion is wrong. A similar poll commissioned by the Knights of Columbus in 2010 gave the number at 56%. So over half of all Americans believe that abortion is morally wrong.

****************************************

ITEM #2:
Parenthood gets better and better

My wife recently gave birth, and the experience of having three children is not breezy-easy, writes Ed West, as he reflects on a new book about the benefits of larger families.
****************************************

ITEM #3: Thousands Of Citizens In India Killed By Reckless Big Pharma Drug Trials

The second largest country in the world, India, has become a hotbed of pharmaceutical fraud, as unscrupulous drug companies, mostly from the West, continue to use India's generally poorer populations as human guinea pigs in unethical and flat-out inhumane clinical trials. And India's Supreme Court is finally taking action against this massive organized crime ring by ordering India's health ministry to justify its approval of 162 global clinical trials to take place in the country.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Japan Withdraws Support Of Controversial HPV Vaccine Over Safety Concerns

While jurisdictions throughout the Western world continue to promote the HPV vaccine, the Japanese government has pulled its support of the controversial drug and sent formal notifications to local health officials saying that it should not be administered until safety concerns are investigated.
****************************************

ITEM #5: Selfish Convenience: Why People Abort Children With Down Syndrome

Abortion advocates often use birth defects as an excuse to justify late-term abortions. Down syndrome is one of the most common birth defects, and among women who receive a prenatal diagnosis, 9 out of 10 choose abortion - solely because their babies have an extra chromosome.
****************************************
ITEM #6: How to Treat Babies with Fatal Abnormalities?
In the wake of two recent cases in Northern Ireland of women seeking abortions for children carrying a particular fatal foetal abnormality, Peter Saunders, of the Christian Medical Fellowship, has written a thought-provoking piece on the subject. He puts forward twenty reasons to reconsider advocating abortion for babies with anencephaly, inlcuding the discriminatory nature of permitting abortion for this condition, whilst not for other disabilities; the need to treat babies born with fatal abnormalities as dependent relatives, who should receive palliative care; and the harm to the mother of aborting a wanted cbabyhild at a late-stage, without the chance to say goodbye to their child. Saunders highlights the need consider again our attitudes towards disability- to return to a deeper understanding of inherent human dignity.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Straight talk from Dr. Ben Carson on the war against babies
Let me tell you something: there's no war on women. You think about it, when a woman is pregnant, what happens? People get up, they give her their seat, they get out of the way, they say, "you can go first." There is great respect and love for pregnant women. There isn't a war on them. The war is on their babies! That's where the war is. Babies that cannot defend themselves.
****************************************

ITEM #8: Planned Parenthood at 97 Years: 6,300,000 Babies Aborted, Billions in Profit

This week Planned Parenthood wished itself a Happy 97th Birthday. Its Facebook page and Twitter feed featured the image of a single candle, atop a frosted and sprinkled cupcake, with the following words: "97 years ago the first Planned Parenthood clinic opened in Brooklyn,New York. Today, we celebrate the 3 million patients that come to us every year for high-quality, affordable health care." The American Life League took the meme head-on, with a counter-candle and a counterfactual of its own: "Planned Parenthood is celebrating its 97th birthday. But the 6,300,000 babies aborted in its facilities won't even have one."
****************************************

ITEM #9: Who Has the Right to Live?

Man is a rationalizing animal. There comes a point, however, when rationalizations become so threadbare that they cease to be serviceable.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Marriage in the Church - What is Marriage?: Part V

Christ's words on marriage shock his contemporaries, they are uncompromising as we have seen, they steer humanity back to the course that was intended from the beginning. Not only does Christ clarify the unity and indissolubility of marriage, purifying the natural institution of all of the accompanying dross of centuries, but He literally recreates it. He elevates it to the state of a sacrament of the New Law, a grace-bearing and communicating sign.

Part I: What is Marriage?
Part II: Unitive and Procreative
Part III: Divorce: Challenges to Marriage
Part IV: Challenges to Marriage
Part V: Marriage in the Church - What is Marriage?
Part VI: An Image of Christ and His Church
Part VII: Married Life: A Path to Heaven

ITEM #11: Tasmanian euthanasia bill defeated, 13-11
As reported earlier, following 10 hours of grueling and emotionally-charged debate, the latest euthanasia & assisted suicide bill in Tasmania was defeated 13 votes to 11 in the State's Lower House on the evening of Thursday the 17th of October.
****************************************
ITEM #12: An atheist identifies 'the central problem with the gay marriage agenda'
The central problem with the gay marriage agenda is not that at some point in the future an unwilling man of the cloth might be strong armed into giving his blessing to a gay union, but rather that it allows the state to do something that was traditionally considered beyond its purview: to redefine the meaning of marriage and, by extension, the meaning of the marital home, the family, and our most intimate relationships.
