“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look
to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.”

STRANGE GODS THRIVE IN A
GODLESS CULTURE
February 22, 2022
Strange Gods Before Us
In a commentary entitled Strange Gods Before Us, the author, Judie Brown, President of American Life League, says, “We’ve got strange gods before us now, and most of the time they’re ourselves. When society and culture taunt us to believe that we are gods, we are in charge of everything, everything revolves around us, we deserve constant entitlements and worship.”
As our laws have progressively gotten more permissive, it has become clear that our society and culture have taken a sharp turn. Abortion and euthanasia, once thought of as evils, are now widely perceived as compassionate and loving choices. And while our laws have changed, we need to remember that God’s laws have not changed. If it was evil two thousand years ago to kill innocent human beings, it is still evil today.
Dobb’s Offers Lessons for the Brain Death Debate
In another noteworthy article, Dobb’s Offers Lessons for the Brain Death Debate (https://www.ncregister.com/blog/dobbs-lessons-for-brain-death-debate), Joseph M. Eble, MD, calls for the reassessment of brain death. Dr. Eble writes, “Last month, during oral argument for Dobbs, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor called attention to the issue of brain death. Beginning with the premise that brain death is valid, she sought to undermine the claim that a fetus is worthy of protection under the law. This raises the question: Is, in fact, a declaration of brain death valid?”
Such a vitally important question! Considering the compelling medical evidence now available to us, isn’t it time to honestly reassess both laws pertaining to the beginning of life and laws pertaining to the end of life?
Overcoming Strange Gods
Mrs. Brown concludes her commentary, “We as a people have chosen to consciously ignore the shameful crimes against humanity, many of which we have legitimized in law. This is why strange gods thrive in a Godless culture like ours. They can only be defeated by our consistency of faith in God, His Word, and His merciful love which we must reflect in our daily lives. We are not, after all, of the world, we are in it to do His divine will.”

MISSION STATEMENT
The Healthcare Advocacy and Leadership Organization (HALO) is a voice for the medically vulnerable. As a non-profit, Christian organization, HALO addresses a wide array of ethical issues including euthanasia, assisted suicide, rationing of medical services, and hastening of death in healthcare settings. In addition, HALO promotes life-affirming healthcare practices, life-protective advance directives, and compassionate care for the sick and those nearing the end of their lives. In all circumstances, HALO espouses in healthcare practice the sanctity and integrity of every human person.
HALO accomplishes its mission through intercessory prayer; widespread education; community awareness and assistance programs; interaction with patients, families, and caregivers; and referrals to appropriate resources when necessary.
*"Life-affirming healthcare" is defined as medical care in which the paramount principle is the sanctity of life, which means that the life and safety of each person come first and each person receives medical care across their lifespan based on their need for care and never with an intention to hasten death, regardless of their abilities or perceived "quality of life."
