Encouraging Kansans: Vote YES to keep KS from Being a Destination for Late-Term Abortion

Kansas, known for its vast prairies, rolling hills, natural beauty, and virtuous people, is currently the epicenter of the abortion debate. Operation Rescue is headquartered in Kansas, and we are proud that our state is the first, since Roe v. Wade was overturned, to offer its citizens the opportunity to decide on abortion through a ballot initiative

Not only was the state of Kansas freed from federal interference upon Roe’s overturn, but the people of Kansas are now exercising their authority to overturn a 2019 Kansas Supreme Court decision which, much like Roe v. Wade did on a federal level, erroneously claimed a state constitutional right to abortion.

The decision effectively usurped every state law restricting abortion and made it impossible to regulate abortion in any meaningful way.

ICYMI: THREE BIG SHIFTS AFFECTING TINY BABIES THIS WEEK: LAWS BLOCKED AND UNBLOCKED IN LA, WV, AND GA

Louisiana and West Virginia were abortion free for what seemed like moments in the broad scheme of things post-Roe. Operation Rescue has verified that, while abortions had temporarily halted, abortion businesses in the two states are busy scheduling and performing abortions again.

Both states worked through the appropriate legislative processes to put laws on the books banning abortion. Though the time frame for the legislative actions is spread across more than a century, the conviction of the people in each state to protect innocent lives is the same.

An example of the traditional magisterial teaching which indicates that it is never morally licit to intentionally kill a child through abortion in order to “save the life of its mother” comes from the teaching of Pope Pius XII:

“Every human being, even the infant in the mother's womb, has the right to life immediately from God, not from the parent or any human society or authority. Therefore, there is no man, no human authority, no science, no medical, eugenic, social, economic or moral ‘indication’ that can show or give valid juridical title for direct deliberate disposition concerning an innocent human life-which is to say, a disposition that aims at its destruction either as an end in itself or as the means of attaining another end that is perhaps in no way illicit itself. Thus, for example, to save the life of the mother is a most noble end, but the direct killing of the child as a means to this end is not licit.”
