Florida Governor Ron DeSantis made it official today - filing the legal paperwork necessary to run for the Republican nomination for president. The FEC filing comes ahead of his highly-anticipated presidential announcement at 6 p.m. Wednesday on Twitter Spaces with CEO Elon Musk.

A 15-week Phantom "Ban" is no "Ban" at all

"Top anti-abortion leaders are continuing to lobby Donald Trump on a 15- week ban they believe should be the standard for Republican Party" began a story in the May 18 issue of Politico. A similar story ran in the same day in the Washington Post.

These are not publications sympathetic to pro-lifers. How happy are they that a 15-week “ban” on abortion is supposedly the standard position for the Republican Party and its candidates? That is a far cry from what the grassroots pro-life movement in the states has worked for during the last fifty years.

'Catchy slogans like 'Give the gift of life' sound good, but gloss over critical details that everyone who signs a donor card has a right to know.'

I was asked recently whether I would receive a transplant. I have often addressed this question in my lectures and videos on the ethics of organ harvesting and transplantation. Like most questions, the answer to this question is, “It depends!” There are many types of transplants, some of which are ethical and some which are not.

LIFE IS SACRED

An example of the traditional magisterial teaching which indicates that it is never morally licit to intentionally kill a child through abortion in order to “save the life of its mother” comes from the teaching of Pope Pius XII:

“Every human being, even the infant in the mother's womb, has the right to life immediately from God, not from the parent or any human society or authority. Therefore, there is no man, no human authority, no science, no medical, eugenic, social, economic or moral ‘indication’ that can show or give valid juridical title for direct deliberate disposition concerning an innocent human life-which is to say, a disposition that aims at its destruction either as an end in itself or as the means of attaining another end that is perhaps in no way illicit itself. Thus, for example, to save the life of the mother is a most noble end, but the direct killing of the child as a means to this end is not licit.”
