40 DAYS FOR LIFE: DAY 38: Is Birth Control a Blessing?

 

The answer is controversial

Contraception is designed to prevent unintended pregnancies. Unintended pregnancies account for the majority of abortions. So it would seem that contraception reduces the number of abortions and that birth control is a blessing. Is it that simple? Contraception is a controversial matter among pro-lifers. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we answer the question: "Is contraception a blessing or a curse?" Tune in at: 40daysforlife.com/birth-control-blessing The Philadelphia 40 Days for Life team reported an inspiring conversation with a young woman outside Planned Parenthood. "She shared that she had her birth control removed and made a courageous decision to embrace chastity," the leadership team wrote. "Pat offered encouragement and prayed with her--a true moment of grace!" Zagreb, Croatia "We have BIG, BIG, BIG news from Croatia," wrote longtime 40 Days for Life leader Petra. The hospital in Zagreb, where the vigil is held, paused providing abortions because ALL of the nurses are refusing to participate. By law, the hospital will need to find staff to make sure abortions become available again. But in the meantime, between 4 and 12 abortions are NOT taking place every day. "I can't even describe how happy we are in this moment and how big this is!" Petra said.  Schenectady, New York Chris saw a couple leaving Planned Parenthood stop their car to look for information on their phone. "She had tears running down her face," Chris said. The two women made eye contact, and the car window was rolled down, beginning a conversation about the couple's situation. The father acknowledged turning away from Planned Parenthood, but he desperately needs a job. Chris expressed interest in throwing a baby shower, but unfortunately, the father is no longer responding to text messages. "Let's all pray that this couple will remain open to having their child," wrote Larry and Connie from the Schenectady team. On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. --John 20:1 Father, you never fail. Time and time again you have triumphed: with the overturn of Roe v. Wade, with the conversion of abortion doctors, with the courageous mothers who have chosen life, and with the countless babies saved against all odds. Why, then, do I doubt that you will help us now? I believe that you will make abortion unthinkable in this country. I believe that you will help us empower women to choose life. I believe that no setback is permanent. Planned Parenthood couldn't help; pro-lifers did

In 2025, the standard pro-abortion position is that abortion is the answer to all of the world's problems. The environment, poverty, rape, disability, a broken foster-care system, and inflation all are solved by abortion.  A young woman arrived at Planned Parenthood in Portland, Maine, because she was struggling with the prospect of welcoming a baby while parenting an older child who has autism. Fortunately, Claudia's "Pregnant? We Can Help" sign caught the mother's attention and started a conversation. "She said she believes in God and wants to keep the child but needs help with the pregnancy," explained Joanne, the campaign leader. "So Claudia helped her pull up information about our local pregnancy center on her phone. She was very happy!" Abortion would have done nothing to help this mom and her child with autism, but Claudia's referrals are providing support for the entire family. "This woman's story proves to us: Planned Parenthood is not in the business of offering pregnant women any help or any actual choices," Joanne said. "They are in the business of providing abortion...[a] hopeless, dead end of a choice." Instead of a dead end, the woman's story has a happy ending. "Because our volunteers were outside the clinic offering actual choices...she was able to...find the real help she needed for her, her baby, and her autistic seven-year-old," Joanne added. "Who knows what choice she might have made if she had not gotten that help and support?"  Newport News, Virginia Some abortion businesses dress up their facilities with classy decor and advertise a "spa-like" experience. Others don't bother. A passing motorist saw Gary kneeling in front of a dilapidated-looking building in Newport News and stopped to ask what he was doing. Gary explained that the building was an abortion facility and shared how 40 Days for Life vigils offer prayers for abortion-bound parents and abortion workers. "They kill babies in there?" the man asked. "Man, I'm getting emotional." Gary's presence means one more person is aware of the crisis of abortion in the community. And because the man expressed an interest in participating in the vigil, it likely means one more person praying for an end to abortion! Annapolis, Maryland The Students for Life group at Rockbridge Academy joined the vigil--just the latest infusion of youth into this autumn's campaign. "I am always heartened when young people participate in 40 Days for Life," wrote George, the Annapolis campaign leader. "They are very pro-life and always raise a lot of money for our local crisis pregnancy center." Roma, Mexico City, Mexico A woman arrived at the Marie Stopes International facility seeking an abortion. Her tearful parents who accompanied her begged her not to go through with it. "She stood there, frozen, unable to decide," said Piki, the campaign leader. 40 Days for Life volunteers broke the stalemate. Piki approached the woman and initiated a 40-minute conversation that ended when the mom chose to continue her pregnancy! "Tell your baby that you love and will fight for him or her,” Piki told her. The mom did...and then left the abortion facility with her parents. Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom. --Luke 23:42  God, we ask that those who have participated in abortion will know that your mercy does not expire. Help us to forgive as you do so that others might come to understand the dignity of every human life, including their own. Convert the hearts of abortionists.
