Video Appeal - Jenny Hodges - Pro-Life Unity

image

This is the first installment of an effort we have called Pro-Life Appeals. You will see video appeals by leaders of Pro-Life organizations, encouraging you to get involved and do everything you can to help oppose abortion/prenatal murder and the culture of death.

This Appeal features Jenny Hodges, National Director of Pro-Life Unity. It was filmed in front of the 16 Street Planned Parenthood abortion mill in Washington DC. This front-lines location saw 22 Pro-Life warriors on site that day, with about a half a dozen death-scorts (escorts).

Sole intent, to attack the Church

Mexico City archdiocesan spokesman criticizes pro-abortion campaign for using Bible quotes

July 25 -- The spokesman for the Archdiocese of Mexico City, Father Hugo Valdemar, has criticized a campaign recently launched by "Catholics for Choice" for using quotes from the Bible out of context to justify the use of condoms.

The ad campaign launched by CFC in Mexico uses passages from the Song of Songs that have sexual connotations with the phrase, "Love neighbor as yourself. Use a condom," below each Bible quote.

"It's clear to us that the members of this group are not Catholic, as they are going against the teachings of the Pope and the Church," Father Valdemar told the EFE news agency.

He called the use of the Bible passages "offensive" and noted, "In the Bible there is nothing about condoms." "They are anxious for the Church to attack them in response, but precisely because of this, there will be no response on the part of the Archdiocese," he said.

Father Valdemar recalled that the U.S. Bishops have clearly indicated that CFC is not a Catholic organization. "These are organizations that by their own choice are automatically excluded from the Church," he said.

He also pointed out that CFC is financed by pro-abortion organizations and that it's sole intention is to "attack the Church."

“The whole truth on abortion” brochure offers informational material in a clear and simple format in response to the main questions on abortion

EUROPE/SPAIN -

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – The Spanish organization "S.O.S. Familia" has begun free distribution of a brochure entitled, "The whole truth on abortion," which offers informational material in a clear and simple format in response to the main questions on this serious issue. Some of the questions typical of an 18-year-old young woman are presented in the brochure: "I do not want the child that I am expecting. Can I have an abortion? The State says it is ok. Why does the Church condemn it?".
According to "SOS Familia," "abortion is the worst open wound present in countless mothers and families, as it is in Spanish society; there is hardly any other issue that has caused more pain and conflict." More questions are formed: "Aborting is a crime or just a surgical procedure? Are 100,000 unborn children killed each year in Spain, or is freedom awarded to 100,000 would-be mothers who have 'liberated' themselves from an 'undesired pregnancy'? Are these mothers happy as a result of what they have done, or are they left with a profound lifelong trauma?"
Francisco Gonzalez, coordinator of the campaign, affirmed that the success of the pamphlet has been surprising. With hardly any publicity, a total of 50,000 brochures were distributed in June of this year alone. In July, an updated edition was published and had an even wider circulation than the previous two editions.
"The issue is treated in its harsh reality, yet in an elevated and respectful manner. The pamphlet is easy-to-read and once you open it, it's hard to put down," the coordinator commented. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 1/8/2008)

Jack Ames

This just in, Joe Healy, the Associate Director of Defend Life - DefendLife.org, reports that 18 individuals were arrested today in Maryland while showing the true face of abortion. In his Email, Healy had this to say about what happened:

This is Joe Healy in for Jack Ames, who is one of 18 of my pro-life friends who were arrested in Bel Air, MD, this evening while peacefully holding pro-life signs on the side of the road.

They were not told what they were being arrested for, nor were they read their rights during arrest.

Here is a picture of what we were doing just prior to the arrests:

Fortunately, they let out the two minors a couple of hours ago, but the remaining 16 pro-lifers are still being “processed.”

I was with them at the MD State Police Barracks where they were still being processed at 11:15 PM. The police will be taking them four at a time to the Harford County Detention Center for final processing and hopefully released.

Please pray for them right now and pass this message along to others who will pray. Spread the word: our First Amendment rights are non-existent in Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland.

God bless,

Joe Healy
Associate Director

The Face the Truth Tour is an annual event that takes place in the Washington D.C. area. Many team members drive as a “core team” to 3 stops a day for 5 days, while Pro-Life people who can come to the individual stops join them. The group holds signs of murdered humans to show the ugly truth of abortion, or pre-natal murder.

In Rare Move Bishops Openly Criticize Catholic Professor over Nutrition and Hydration Articles in Jesuit Magazine

MANASSAS, VA, July 31, 2008 (CNSweb) - Articles about end-of-life ethics by two college professors, including a bioethics professor at Loyola University of Chicago, have prompted a rare public correction by the leading American bishops responsible for pro-life activities and Catholic doctrine.

Cardinal Justin Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia and chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), and Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport, Conn., chairman of the USCCB Committee on Doctrine, raise their concerns in the August 4 issue of the Jesuits' America magazine.

The bishops write that two previous America articles by John Hardt, assistant professor of bioethics at Loyola University of Chicago's Stritch School of Medicine, and Thomas Shannon, emeritus professor of religion and social ethics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, "appear to misunderstand and subsequently misrepresent the substance of Church teaching on these difficult but important ethical questions" about "our moral obligations to patients who exist in what has come to be called a 'persistent vegetative state.'"

Both professors argue for exceptions to Church teaching, thereby allowing the removal of a feeding tube and hydration from such patients.

In his January article, Hardt cites a 2007 statement by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), which teaches that artificial nutrition and hydration may be withheld from a patient when "in some rare cases" the treatment "may become excessively burdensome."  Using the example of his father, who has asked not to receive artificial hydration and nutrition should he enter a vegetative state, Hardt writes, "[M]y father has judged that the burden of persisting in a vegetative state far outweighs the benefit of being sustained that way.  This, in my view, is a very Catholic way of thinking…."

Cardinal Rigali and Bishop Lori respond that Hardt wrongly defines excessive burden as "a simple dislike for survival in a helpless state."  In fact, the bishops write, "that claim has no foundation in the text [and] is actually contradicted" by the CDF.

Furthermore, the bishops write, Hardt ignores the Church's teaching on euthanasia by "omission":  "The Church insists on the important distinction between validly withdrawing a life-sustaining means because the means itself is burdensome, and wrongly withdrawing it because (in someone's view) life itself has become burdensome."  The latter action is "always morally wrong," and providing food and water is almost never a significant burden to the patient.

"By omitting food and fluids, what are we trying to achieve?" ask the bishops.  "Whose 'burden' are we trying to ease?  Assisted feeding is often not difficult or costly to provide in itself, but the housing, nursing care and other basic needs of a helpless patient can be significant.  To discontinue assisted feeding in order to be freed from such burdens puts the caregiver's interests ahead of the patient's, even if we prefer not to recognize the reality of our choice."

The articles by Hardt and Shannon echo the public advocacy by many college professors - several of them at Catholic universities - in support of the withdrawal of food and water from the Florida patient Terri Schiavo in 2005, despite clear Vatican opposition.  The Cardinal Newman Society (CNS) identified several professors at Boston College, Georgetown University, Marquette University, Seattle University and elsewhere who publicly contradicted Vatican officials on the Schiavo case or otherwise aided the "right to die" movement in the United States.

"The danger is obvious: If the Church is going to face up to a growing movement for euthanasia and assisted suicide in the United States, Catholic universities must help in that important battle," wrote CNS President Patrick J. Reilly in the June 2005 issue of Crisis magazine.

Austrians Hold "1000 Crosses Funeral March" in Memory of the Unborn

SALZBURG, Austria, August 1, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Last week hundreds of Austrian pro-lifers held the first annual "1000 Crosses Funeral March" for the unborn.

March participants met at the Cathedral Square in Salzburg where they were given a large white cross before setting out to begin their peaceful procession through the city. When march participants reached the city's State Bridge, dozens of roses were thrown into the river in memory of lives lost to abortion in Austria. At the end of the march, participants joined together to celebrate a special 'Mass of Atonement' for those who promote the scourge of abortion.

This pro-life march follows several accounts of aggressive intimidation tactics earlier this year in Vienna by hired 'escorts' who are employed by abortion mills to keep pro-lifers from influencing their clientele - by whatever means necessary.

On numerous occasions, video cameras outside of Vienna abortion mills have captured instances of verbal, sexual and psychological abuse on the part of these hired antagonists, without any legal repercussions or police interference. Moreover, the Austrian Parliament is considering legislation to ban all pro-life activists from the public property outside abortion clinics, even if they are only praying silently.

FROM CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC DAILY:

Another slow day, thank God

A while later another couple, not talking to anyone, drove into the parking lot and then drove out … they did not have an abortion, either

News from the Trenches

Thanks be to God, it was another very slow day at Family Planning Associates in San Diego, with approximately eight to ten women entering the mill for abortions. We had seven public prayer warriors, many of them students at John Paul the Great Catholic University, and two sidewalk counselors at FPA this week.

By the grace of God, there were two turn-arounds. One young couple, who would not take any material as they quickly drove into the parking lot, went into the abortion mill and came back out a while later. On their way out of the parking lot, they stopped and spoke with David, an 18-year-old sidewalk counselor, and told him they did not have the abortion. David was then able to tell them about the abortionist, Robert Santella's medical record (how he has been put on probation several times by the state medical board) as well as about the competency of Dr. Delgado and Culture of Life Family Services. They took all the information and left. A while later another couple, not talking to anyone, drove into the parking lot and then drove out. Thanks be to God, they did not have an abortion, either.

Please continue to pray for the miraculous turn-arounds, as well as for the conversion of all the women who went into the mill and had an abortion. Please also pray for the conversion of Robert Santella and his staff.

Thank you to all those who came to be public prayer witnesses at FPA this week and to those who, unable to be physically present, prayed at home or at work. You are saving lives!

In Christ through Mary,
Terry
