“The whole truth on abortion” brochure offers informational material in a clear and simple format in response to the main questions on abortion

EUROPE/SPAIN -

Madrid (Agenzia Fides) – The Spanish organization "S.O.S. Familia" has begun free distribution of a brochure entitled, "The whole truth on abortion," which offers informational material in a clear and simple format in response to the main questions on this serious issue. Some of the questions typical of an 18-year-old young woman are presented in the brochure: "I do not want the child that I am expecting. Can I have an abortion? The State says it is ok. Why does the Church condemn it?".
According to "SOS Familia," "abortion is the worst open wound present in countless mothers and families, as it is in Spanish society; there is hardly any other issue that has caused more pain and conflict." More questions are formed: "Aborting is a crime or just a surgical procedure? Are 100,000 unborn children killed each year in Spain, or is freedom awarded to 100,000 would-be mothers who have 'liberated' themselves from an 'undesired pregnancy'? Are these mothers happy as a result of what they have done, or are they left with a profound lifelong trauma?"
Francisco Gonzalez, coordinator of the campaign, affirmed that the success of the pamphlet has been surprising. With hardly any publicity, a total of 50,000 brochures were distributed in June of this year alone. In July, an updated edition was published and had an even wider circulation than the previous two editions.
"The issue is treated in its harsh reality, yet in an elevated and respectful manner. The pamphlet is easy-to-read and once you open it, it's hard to put down," the coordinator commented. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 1/8/2008)
