T&C: Service, Beauty and the Family

TandC Newsletter Banner

The Little Sisters of the Poor are a religious order serving in the U.S. since 1868. Faithful to their profoundly beautiful and humble mission, they currently care for 13,000 elderly poor in 30 homes across the U.S. and in 31 countries world-wide...And yet, astoundingly, for the past several years, the Little Sisters have been engaged in an unwarranted battle with the federal government.

In taking on lowly human flesh, Beauty itself has suffered, and for this reason, we too ought to enter into that suffering. Ratzinger is calling us to allow the true knowledge of Christ's Beauty to form our reason and soul, turning us away from the banal culture and into God's "marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

If euthanasia in Canada does become something like a growth industry, this would mean that fewer member of the medical profession who oppose assisted killing would be allowed to act in accordance with their conscience. One person's choice could violate another person's conscience.  Such a situation would logically discourage conscientious people from entering the world of medicine in the first place. Secular society becomes more efficient when there is uniformity of opinion, where everyone agrees on the reigning ideology of the day.

A healthy society then is nothing more than a conglomeration of healthy families. Anything more removed than that is simply not realistic of how humans function. The question then becomes, if Marx and Engels are right about problems in the family, but wrong to argue for its dissolution, how then do we heal the family? Where do we find models of families functioning well? And how does a family function well as an essential component of a nation?

Judie Brown: "The occult world of abortion"

What is it that abortion clinics don't want the general public to know? And why are they so afraid of morality?

In the occult, or secret world of abortion nothing is as it appears. In a LifeSiteNews article, we read the interview of a woman whose mother worked in an abortion clinic and who has firsthand knowledge of the clinic's inner workings. According to this insider, the clinic was "pervaded with occult imagery and practices." The article continued by stating that "the workers considered 'abortion to be a form of sacrifice,' would perform the procedure as a sort of ritual, and worshipped deities embodying death."

Praying for Life: April 2016
Intercession
May all who suffer after abortion receive peace through Christ’s Sacred Heart.

Prayers

Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, Glory Be
Reflection

Recalling our sins, we may feel discouraged and fearful of approaching God. However, we can cling to the truth that Christ’s Passion on the Cross did not end in death, but in the joy of the Resurrection. The power of the Resurrection gives us the courage to face our sins, confess our mistakes, and then humbly receive God’s forgiveness and accept the joy that comes with new life in Christ.

As we celebrate the Sunday of Divine Mercy this weekend and continue our journey through this Easter season, let us reflect upon the profound and transformative gift of God’s mercy in our lives. May the infinite depth and breadth of Christ’s Divine Mercy remind us that no wound is too great for God to heal.

Acts of Reparation (choose one)
  • Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet for all who suffer after abortion—that they may experience peace through Christ’s Sacred Heart. (See additional information on Divine Mercy.)
  • Reflect on the Mass readings for the Sunday of Divine Mercy. How is God speaking to you?
  • Encounter Christ’s ready forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and then continue to place your trust in God’s mercy with this short prayer.

One Step Further
If a friend confided that she had an abortion, would you be able to respond in a way that brings her closer to healing? “How to Talk to a Friend Who’s Had an Abortion” gives suggestions for how you can be a channel of God’s mercy.
