Musings on Imperfect Christmases
By Ellen Wilson Fielding:
What would it have looked like, if Mary’s prayers for her son Jesus had resembled mine for those I love and if, in addition, they had been granted by God? What if, worn down by the ceaseless importunities of this me-version of Mary, God the Father had, like the unjust Judge in the parable, thrown up his metaphorical hands and exasperatedly said, “All right, already! I’m giving you what you ask for!”
Gretchen Whitmer Ensures There Will Be No Survivors in the War on Human Life
By Matt Lamb:
[Michigan Gov.] Whitmer may not realize it (or care), but her comparison between her tragic story and abortion expansion is erroneous. No one ever deserves to be sexually assaulted. Likewise, no baby ever deserves to be killed in the womb.
Courage and Clarity: A Tribute to James Likoudis
Special access from the Fall issue of the Human Life Review
By William Doino, Jr.:
Throughout the history of the pro-life and pro-family movements, many remarkable individuals have played important roles. Among those who may receive less recognition today is James Likoudis, a gifted scholar and speaker whose long-time defense of human life, the nuclear family, quality education, parental rights, and religious liberty has proven strikingly prophetic.
By Diane Moriarty:
Who’s minding the store? The Feds sure weren’t. If abortion had remained on the state level it would not have had the effect on presidential elections that it did. For a long time, abortion was the third rail of politics; “pro-life” meant being personally opposed but accepting its legality or being doomed at the starting gate.
By Fr. Gerald E. Murray:
To sing a new song is to give voice to a new tune and lyrics. Something not heard before will now be offered to listeners. ... Singing a new song, if the song is worthy, draws both the singer and the listener out of themselves and into a pleasing encounter with beauty and truth, order and balance.
The Low Cost of (Some) Labor in Michigan
By John Grondelski:
State Rep. Samantha Steckloff (D-19th District) is pushing a package of bills through the state legislature to bring commercial surrogacy to the Great Lakes State. Her legislation would redefine parenthood in ways that would reduce the term only to the person actually commissioning a child. Genetic parenthood (via gametes) wouldn’t count. Neither would bearing and delivering the child.
By Jason Morgan:
2024 is the year of the dragon. It was barely half-a-day old when the dragon lashed out in anger. On the afternoon of New Year’s Day in Japan our cell phones started bleating in unison, high-pitched whooping interspersed with an urgent robotic voice repeating: “Jishin desu. Jishin desu.”
“Earthquake, earthquake.”
By Rev. George G. Brooks:
As St. Paul put it, the weakness of God is stronger than men (I Corinthians 1:25). The wisdom of the wise men was to see in advance the tragedy and triumph of the gospel story ...
White House Plans "Reproductive Freedoms Tour"
By Matt Lamb:
The announcement warned of “extremists,” meaning people who believe in the sanctity of human life and who want to protect preborn babies from being killed in the womb. [Vice President] Harris “will host events that highlight the harm caused by these abortion bans while sharing stories of those who have been impacted,” according to the release.
