U.S. bishops overwhelmingly approve statement on stem cell research

191 to 1


Meeting in Orlando, Florida, U.S. Catholic bishops yesterday approved 191 to 1 a statement on embryonic stem cell research, the USCCB announced at a press conference.

The statement on stem cell research represents the first formal statement issued by the bishops dealing exclusively with the topic. Approval of the statement required a 2/3 vote.

The spring meeting of the bishops began June 12 and concludes today.
