Big Bird's Catholic Doctrine Game: One of These Things Is Not Like the Other     By  Judie Brown                            Today's commentary reflects on some recent events that have elicited various responses from members of the Catholic Church. As we all know, it is not always easy to stand up for what is moral or for what the Church teaches. Yet, in times of moral crises, it is the leaders of the Church who must stand tall and proclaim the truth-and who should give us the strength to do so as well. HEADLINES National anti-abortion leaders hail Planned Parenthood closure of two Iowa clinics Des Moines Register Two national anti-abortion leaders traveled to Iowa today to celebrate the closure of two Planned Parenthood clinics. Planned Parenthood of the Heartland leaders deny that anti-abortion vigils factored into their decision to close clinics in Storm Lake and Knoxville. They say both locations had limited hours and services, which could more efficiently be provided by consolidating them with other clinics.

Sebelius: Decrease in human beings will cover cost of contraception mandate CNS News Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a House panel Thursday that a reduction in the number of human beings born in the United States will compensate employers and insurers for the cost of complying with the new HHS mandate that will require all health-care plans to cover sterilizations and all FDA-approved contraceptives, including those that cause abortions. "The reduction in the number of pregnancies compensates for the cost of contraception," Sebelius said. She went on to say the estimated cost is "down not up."
