How Malta Just Stopped Legalized Abortion
By Dr. Miriam Sciberras:
What happened in Malta is instructive, because it mirrored the pro-abortion playbook around the world, namely, using an extreme case to attack all pro-life legislation. While hard cases may make bad law, they generate good “narratives.” ... Malta has shown that pro-life laws and competent medical care for life-threatening pregnancies are not incompatible.
By Diane Moriarty:
In Lawyer-Land, if you shoplift but the surveillance cameras are busted and you get out of the store without the alarm going off, you’re innocent. No evidence, no crime. It doesn’t matter what is true or false, it only matters what can be proven in court. ... “deny, deflect and delay” ... The three D’s are prominent in abortion propaganda.
Review: Madame Restell: The Life, Death and Resurrection of Old New York's Most Fabulous, Fearless and Infamous Abortionist
(Sample book review article from the Spring issue of Human Life Review!)
By Maria McFadden Maffucci:
By all historical accounts, including this one, Madame Restell was a hard, often vicious woman who lied, cheated, sold sketchy birth control potions, and performed surgical abortions without any medical training, all so she could amass great wealth. She killed hundreds—thousands?—of babies, and along the way gravely injured—probably killed—several women as well. Yet author Jennifer Wright conjures up a feminist hero, as do the gushing endorsements on the book cover ...
Stopping the Abortion Pill - A Major Step Forward
By Edward Mechmann:
A major decision was just issued by the Fifth Circuit in the abortion pill case. This is the lawsuit filed by pro-life doctors challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s shifting safety standards for the use of mifepristone (a/k/a Mifeprex). ... This is extremely important, because it demonstrates that the FDA is not free to act with impunity.
The Washington Post's Accidentally Pro-Life Feature
By Madeline Fry Schultz:
Last year, the Washington Post’s Caroline Kitchener profiled a teenage couple who had twins after Texas’ heartbeat abortion law went into effect. The article ran days before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, supposedly heralding the oppressive new regime women would suffer under with abortion restrictions. But, as Kitchener wrote in a follow-up on the family, published last week, the original story acted as a “Rorschach test, with each side of the abortion debate claiming the teenagers’ experiences as validation of their own views.”
By Rev. Dr. W. Ross Blackburn:
Hagar’s is the first crisis pregnancy recorded in the Bible. ... I asked my friend how she thinks she might have responded had she heard as a pregnant teenager that God would walk with her through her confusion and suffering. She wasn’t entirely sure, since she had never heard about a God who sees, a God who saw her—unwed, lonely, fearful, and pregnant—and loved her.
In Memory of Senator James Lane Buckley
By John Grondelski:
James Lane Buckley died August 18, having passed his 100th birthday last March. ... Pro-lifers owe Senator Buckley a great debt. He and Jesse Helms (R-NC) were the first senators to introduce constitutional amendments to overturn Roe v. Wade, an effort Buckley pursued during his one term in the Senate.
By Fr. Gerald E. Murray:
Whether we consider ourselves workaholics or not, we all need to have time to set aside our ordinary occupations. Weekends, holidays, and especially vacations are gifts from God that make it possible for us to contemplate the great blessing of being alive and knowing the One True God. The “lonely place” Christ speaks of has both a physical and spiritual aspect. ... Spiritually, time away from work can be the occasion for rediscovering the beauty of prayer and contemplation, of silent mediation upon God’s Word, of living in God’s presence with a grateful spirit.
