40 Days For Life: DAY 39: Abortion Workers Are Noticing

The farther we get into a 40 Days for Life campaign, the bigger the impact your prayers and witness have on abortion workers. That has certainly been the case in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where an abortion facility employee has done everything she can think of to disrupt the prayer vigil. The worker strategically parked her car to try to block vigil participants' signs advertising alternatives to abortion. "By midweek, all employees were parking in front of our signs, even coming outside multiple times per day to move their vehicles," said Susie from the local team. That failed, so the abortion staffer began calling the police when vigil participants engaged abortion facility clients in conversation. "Lies," Susie said. "But proof that we are on the right track. ... I like to think she was upset because her conscience was working overtime."

The abortion workers' flustered reactions were out of touch with the overwhelmingly positive response community members have demonstrated to the vigil. "A few stop to thank us, offer to bring lunch, to bring us drinks, and--on the coldest days--hand warmers!" Susie said. Meanwhile, Susie noted, "The pro-choice side appears to be composed mostly of young men." The positive AND negative reactions are strengthening the resolve of the Glenwood Springs campaign, which continues to build momentum.

Lutherville, Maryland When 40 Days for Life leader Jay Walton died unexpectedly just two months before this fall's campaign began, local pro-lifers weren't about to let Jay's work go unfinished. A prayer warrior named Lindsay quickly stepped in to honor Jay's legacy by making sure this fall's campaign would continue. "We started off with a strong turnout of over 20 volunteers on day 1--and some days 5-7 consistently," Lindsay reported. "I'm very happy, and Jay would be too." Lindsay and her team recently held a special candlelight vigil to both honor Jay and pray for an end to abortion. "It was emotional, rewarding, peaceful, and loving," Lindsay recalled. "His daughter sang, [and we] gave flowers to his wife."

San Diego, California This fall, we've celebrated 91-year-old and 92-year-old vigil participants... ...but at 97 years old, Art is the most seasoned pro-lifer we've heard from this campaign! "Art (on the left) is a World War II Navy vet who joined our 40 Days for Life morning group for Monday vigils several weeks ago," reported John, the local leader. During one of those weekly Monday morning vigils, 17 people packed the sidewalk--"our best turnout of the fall campaign," John noted.

Roanoke, Virginia Roanoke leader Joan said that multiple members of the clergy led about 30 people in prayer at one time! "At one point, [a driver] pulled into the lot, saw us, took a deep breath, and turned around," she said. "The woman in the car said 'thank you' and drove off. It was so amazing!"

Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!" --John 20:27-28 Dear Jesus, thank you for the ways that science helps us to better see and know your creation. Please lead every expectant mother to a place that will enable her to see her child with an ultrasound. Grant her the simplicity to see the humanity in her womb and the courage to protect it. Amen.
