🇦🇷 Libertarian Pro-Lifer Elected President of Argentina

Argentina Elects a Pro-Life Libertarian President

Not long ago, Argentina was an economic superpower that rivaled the United States in wealth and exports. It was also a a staunchly Catholic country to which many immigrants fled seeking peace and prosperity during Europe's tumultuous early 20th century.
Then, a succession of corrupt governments and military coups resulted in the once great nation succumbing to an endless cycle of decadence, poverty and even greater corruption.
On Sunday, the people of Argentina, suffering under crushing triple digit inflation, voted for Javier Milei, an eccentric Austrian school economist with a bold libertarian vision.
What makes Milei's victory especially noteworthy for us at the Personhood Alliance is that, unlike European and North American libertarians, he has embraced a pro-life platform that refuses to equivocate on the humanity and fundamental rights of the preborn child.

Javier Milei won the election in the biggest landslide since elections began in 1983.

Not only did Javier Milei win without sacrificing his pro-life position, he did so with the biggest landslide in modern Argentine history.
During his interview with Tucker Carlson, Mr. Milei stated unequivocally that he is pro-life because:

"there is a scientific justification, from biology, and that is the fact that life begins at the moment of fertilization. At that very moment there comes into being a new being that is developing with its unique DNA. And it is true that a woman has the right to bodily autonomy, but that child in her womb is not her body. I repeat, the child in the womb is not her body. Therefore, abortion is a form of homicide that is aggravated by (violation of) the maternal bond and the power imbalance against a defenseless child."

North American Libertarians Should Take Note

In staggering contrast to the crystal clear position described by President Milei, many North American and most European libertarians insist on trying to deal with abortion as an unwanted distraction, ignoring the clear and obvious fact that without the right to life, no other rights matter.

An example of the traditional magisterial teaching which indicates that it is never morally licit to intentionally kill a child through abortion in order to “save the life of its mother” comes from the teaching of Pope Pius XII:

“Every human being, even the infant in the mother's womb, has the right to life immediately from God, not from the parent or any human society or authority. Therefore, there is no man, no human authority, no science, no medical, eugenic, social, economic or moral ‘indication’ that can show or give valid juridical title for direct deliberate disposition concerning an innocent human life-which is to say, a disposition that aims at its destruction either as an end in itself or as the means of attaining another end that is perhaps in no way illicit itself. Thus, for example, to save the life of the mother is a most noble end, but the direct killing of the child as a means to this end is not licit.”
