40 Days For Life: DAY 18: Total Chaos

You never know what you might see when you pray for an end to abortion. As Julie and Emma stood vigil with the Atlanta 40 Days for Life campaign, a giant tree cracked and crashed down upon power lines. They left the vigil and called authorities to address the dangerous situation. The next day, the site was filled with workers and equipment removing the massive tree branch. Meanwhile, the water utility came to fix the water line--which then burst and turned into a geyser. Atlanta leader Cathy said the result was total chaos. "Equipment doing the backup beeping constantly. The tree people have equipment beeping," she said. "Big trailer trucks...backhoes...only one lane of the road even open. ... It was definitely more than a three-ring circus today." But none of it kept Cathy and her team from offering love and support to abortion-minded women. "There were patients but not quite as busy as usual," she observed. "So we are hoping that some of the patients just kept driving right on by all the chaos they saw. ... Prayers for...lives saved today." Glasgow, Scotland In spite of a buffer zone that keeps 40 Days for Life participants 200 meters from the abortion-providing Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Glasgow 40 Days for Life campaign is thriving! "Everyone is in good spirits despite the rain," reported Stuart, who leads the campaign. "We are seeing and experiencing more visual support from the cars that stop at the traffic lights. More waves and horns blowing sounds of support as the public begins to wake up." It's not uncommon to see communities warm up to 40 Days for Life volunteers over time, as they realize the vigils truly are peaceful and prayerful. "That is why it is so important to be a witness to life...to make people stop and think about their own responsibilities in order to bring about a change!" Stuart added. Barre, Vermont The Barre campaign hosted a prayer rally headlined by a special speaker all the way from Guatemala. "Elena told the group that even though abortion is illegal in Guatemala under almost all circumstances, there is a movement to change that," reported Tom, the local leader.  "Elena and her organization worked to prevent that change and, as part of that effort, helped organize a 40 Days for Life campaign in Guatemala."
