UNSPEAKABLE CONVERSATIONS

Shunning
those of us who dare to speak the truth about sin is just about the
only socially acceptable discrimination nowadays. Truth-tellers, you
know what this means – family, friends, freedom, jobs, and peaceful
co-existence are all on the line.
The irony is that we believe in a world that has room for all God’s
children and that we are all sinners. Starting with reforming ourselves,
we want to make the world a better place for everyone – an inclusive
place with room for babies in the womb, disabled people, the sick, the
elderly, and anyone else who is at risk of being excluded from this
life. We abhor abortion, unjust healthcare rationing, assisted suicide,
and euthanasia as deadly sins that hurt those members of society who are
most in need of unbiased acceptance, care, and protection.
Disbelief and Indifference
Try having a conversation about the unspeakable cruelty inflicted on
vulnerable patients in many healthcare settings or the horrifying
abortion procedures used to kill tiny human beings who feel pain and
have beating hearts. People get uncomfortable, even hostile. They accuse
us of lying. For instance, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey
Abrams recently made this ridiculous declaration: “There is no such
thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured sound designed
to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s
body.”
The nightmarish true stories we tell of patients being intentionally
overdosed with powerful drugs and killed by starvation and dehydration
are met with disbelief. Few people know or even seem to care that
denying patients food and fluids is a form of euthanasia that is legal
in all 50 states and occurs every day in hospitals, nursing homes, and
hospices.
When I give speeches warning people about the anti-life sentiment that
has infected much of our healthcare system, it is not unusual to have a
nurse or doctor accuse, “You don’t know what you are talking about.”
Worse is the indifference of those who would simply rather “hear no
evil, see no evil, and speak no evil,” ignoring the crimes against
humanity committed under the guise of “healthcare.”
Medical futility policies, unwanted/secret do-not-resuscitate (DNR)
orders, drug overdoses and terminal sedation, forced signing of POLST
forms, discriminatory healthcare rationing, physician-assisted suicide,
and Covid-19 protocols are some examples of the means used to facilitate
hastening death. Lawmakers, government elites, the insurance industry,
hospital administrators, physicians, and ethicists now determine who lives and who dies.
The Answer
Promoting life-affirming healthcare is a crucial part of HALO’s Mission.
Conversations about the unspeakable sins being committed against life
in hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and abortion clinics are
essential. Our responsibility is to speak out. We are not responsible
for those who refuse to hear.
Today is election day. A lot of people put their faith in politics.
However, electing the “right” people is not going to fix what is wrong
with our healthcare system. While there is a serious moral duty to vote
and we urge everyone to vote for pro-life candidates, there is no
guarantee that, if elected, they will or can restore reverence for life
within the healthcare system. The antidote to the sins committed against
life is not politics, it is God. The ultimate answer is to put our
faith in God, live according to His unchanging life-affirming laws, and
courageously speak the truth.
Note: Educate yourself so that you can speak out against medical tyranny and for life-affirming healthcare. Our website, www.halovoice.org, is a great educational resource. We also invite you to educate others by hosting a HALO speaker for your church, club, etc.
