Matthew 5:9 November 11, 2012 Veterans Day Dear John, Some years ago I was privileged to meet Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. We spoke about her sisters working in Africa, and then she gave me what she called her “business card.” It was actually a prayer card with this prayer: The fruit of silence is prayer The fruit of prayer is faith The fruit of faith is love The fruit of love is service The fruit of service is peace. Mother Teresa was no stranger to CMMB, dropping into the New York office when she was in town. In 1978, CMMB began providing medicine each month to help her aid patients suffering from leprosy in Calcutta. She once said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” On Veterans Day we thank our military men and women who serve the cause of peace by defending freedom and standing up for justice. We pray for peace, which is a gift but also a task and a challenge. |
Lord God, You have revealed that peacemakers are to be called Your children. Grant that we may work without ceasing to establish that justice which alone ensures true and lasting peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Rev. Peter Schineller, S.J., CMMB Board of Directors |
