“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are holding to your faith. by Fr. Daniel E. Doctor, Michigan: Wow, the elections are over – at least for a few years. I am not sure about you, but I know I am glad to be rid of all the advertisements, the TV commercials, the constant interruption at dinner time about who we should vote for and why. I am glad that we are done with all of the bulletin inserts, booklets, and flyers – trying to cram a year’s worth of religious education about the Catholic Church’s position on Life, Liberty, and traditional marriage all within 2 months. Being human, and therefore tempted by the Evil One just like the rest of us, I sometimes think it would be so much easier for me to just be silent and go with the flow of our modern culture. To become a modernist or a liberal and talk about happy things – about salvation without effort – how we are all saved – and God is going to let all of us into heaven without any real effort. To water down our Catholic faith -or at least not to stand for it – or to make it easy for us, by going with everything and defending nothing. To say everything is allowed – go and drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. Are We Scandalous Catholics? The culture and the devil make it sound so good to let go of our moral conscience, to go through life without any religious values and to be uncaring of those around us. It would be great to teach and preach that whatever makes us feel good is OK and being able to have everyone happy and joyful as they leave after Mass – because whatever lifestyle we pick, whatever sin we choose, is just fine with the Church because we are all free. To be like the rest of the nation where 20% are atheists and where over 30% have a cold-hearted belief in God. To be like the 70% of self-proclaimed Catholics who never go to Mass on Sunday or any other day of the week, who can vote and act any way they want – no matter how scandalous and still remain Catholic. Or like the 80% of so called Catholics who have not been to the sacrament of confession in more than a year. Our political leaders make it sound so liberating; to go through life getting all the free stuff the government can provide – acting like I am entitled to it and it is my right to have it. Not really caring who I take it from – or hurt by my selfishness – or how out of control my appetites are – letting others do for me what I could do for myself.
It must be great to live without morals, … or a faith belief, where I can indulge in every selfish appetite and vice and be praised for it and even get legal rights to protect my immoral selfish behavior. To be able to live in a way that leaves nothing but a wake of destruction in my path because I have the right to do whatever I want. It must be a good time – or at least it is made to seem so – to be part of a nation where there are billions of dollars wasted on things like pornography, adultery, fornication, and sodomy. To just “have a good time” without ever feeling guilty or responsible for my actions. To be able to do whatever I want; whenever I want without feeling bad about it.
The Devil makes us believe … that it must be a great time, being a slave to our emotions and appetites – always happy; always fulfilled. To believe that hell is the best place to have real fun – heaven sounds boring – a place where we can come to this – that we could all just get along…but there is also another part of me – that is called to holiness in both my words and actions – a holy part of me – deep inside me – that realizes that God is doing something in the midst of all this craziness – something in the hearts of His faithful priests and bishops who are loyal to the Holy Father and Holy Mother Church as well as many faithful Catholics – and I know it because I can feel it every time I come before our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration – that we are on the verge of something that will be the most wonderful thing in the history of the Catholic Church in America – something that has never been seen in the history of the Church. Jesus tells us plainly in the Gospel; “Do not think that I have come to bring peace. I have come not to bring peace but rather the sword.” He brings the sword because the sword makes people snap out of the mediocrity of the mainstream liberal Bishops and priests have left us drowning in for over 50 years. He brings this sword so that we can repent and change and move forward as faithful Catholics. For it is better for us to save our souls than to gain the whole world.
The Church militant needs warriors – faithful Catholics willing to fight for what our Church stands for and be willing to shed our blood for what it stands against. We don’t need a American Catholic hierarchy, who, knows how to sit and dine with the “Anti-Christs” that surround us. In the near future, no one will want to care about priests and bishops that are “elegant” and “politically correct.” The people of God need bishops and priests who know how to fight evil when they encounter it, not sit it down and have a nice talk with it. This is what we see in the History of the Church if we choose to study it – when things get tough – and they sure are going to get tough now, if you are willing to remain a good faithful Catholic – then the people of God will turn to strong warrior priests and other strong Catholics – so soon they will be turning to us – and we need to be ready to stand with Christ and His Holy Mother come what may – even if that means the shedding of our blood for the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and all She teaches. So I say it again – “Give me Liberty – or – Give me death.” For I do not wish to live in this world – if I am not free! Discover More
