California Bishops Contradict U.S. Bishops

Confusion



Two years ago, in February, 2008, the California Catholic Conference (laymen hired by the bishops to express their political positions) announced the start of the Catholic Legislative Network, "public policy insights," emailed to Catholics in California. 

"This program will help Catholics to sort through the often confusing rhetoric of political debate," explained Stockton Bishop Stephen Blaire, president of the bishops group. 

The Legislative Network's January 8 email, however, is the latest example of the network's inability to clear up confusion. 

The January 8 email about healthcare reform: "Neither of the bills satisfies all of those requirements, so even though the Bishops have been advocating for health care reform for more than 30 years, they have not taken a position on either bill yet."
