The House has approved a ban on 20-week abortions!

The House has approved a ban on 20-week abortions!

Finally!

Remember that the House was set to vote on this legislation on January 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But Republican Rep. Renee Ellmers threatened to sink the bill unless changes were made. The bill was pulled from the floor and postponed indefinitely.

Pro-life groups swung into action. Protests were held outside congressional offices, while groups like CV pressed legislators for action. We were proud to send over 29,782 signatures to Republican leadership in our Open Letter to Speaker Boehner, calling on him to bring this legislation to a vote.

After months of negotiations and unwavering pro-life pressure from the grassroots, the House passed the 20-week abortion ban moments ago by a 242-184 vote.

DID YOU KNOW: There are only four countries which allow post-viability abortions for any reason. They are China, North Korea, Canada, and... the United States.

Thankfully the House has taken a first step towards trying to change that injustice. But our attention now turns to the United States Senate.

Just because the Republicans have control of the Senate, doesn’t mean getting a vote will be easy. While most Republicans in the Senate are pro-life, there are a few Republicans who are not. And we will have to beat back a Democratic filibuster. Getting this done will take sustained pressure.

But this is a fight we are winning. Opponents are forced to defend the utterly inhumane practice of destroying viable children who feel pain in the womb -- the same type of grisly medicine practiced by the monster Kermit Gosnell.

They can’t win this fight with the public.

We’re on offense. Let’s keep going.
