A SPECIAL DAY TOMORROW

Tomorrow, May 1st. is a special day for all of us! First it's the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord!
Second, it is the Feast of Saint Joseph the Workman, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary!
Third, it is the National Day of Prayer in the United States of America!
Below is a message regarding this Day of Prayer:

Fr. Pavone on National Day of Prayer: Let Us Pray for an End to Abortion

STATEN ISLAND, Ny., April 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today urged Christians to participate in tomorrow's 57th Annual National Day of Prayer, and to include the unborn in their prayers.

"On this National Day of Prayer, we turn to God in Jesus' Name, and His blessing on our nation, our leaders, and our fellow citizens. Moreover, we pray for an end to the most pervasive form of violence, that which occurs against children in the womb."

Fr. Pavone praised Shirley Dobson and her entire team for the work they put into this annual effort. "It is an inspiration to see all that the Dobsons have done for our nation and for the Body of Christ."

Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro- life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.

Operation Rescue Commentary: Coercion of Choice

Coercion of Choice

April 30th, 2008

Cartoon used by permission of the artist, John Francis Borra, who can be contacted at veritatis@eaglecom.net.

While newspapers such as the Kansas City Star continue to question whether coerced abortions are widespread, those of us who actually deal with pregnant and post-abortive women understand that this problem has reached epidemic proportions.

"The most common statement I have heard in my 24 years of counseling abortion-minded women has been , 'You don't understand. I don't have a choice,'" said Operation Rescue spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. "There are so many women out there who do not want to abort their babies, but do so because they feel pressured or threatened by people in their lives to the extent that they do not believe they can resist. Abortion mills are all too happy to play on the fears of these vulnerable women because today, due to the shrinking demand for abortion, there is cut-throat competition for each abortion dollar."

The artist who created the cartoon below has this to say on the subject of coerced abortions:

This cartoon highlights an often overlooked fact about the so-called right to choose: more often than not, vulnerable young women are coerced into abortion. Coercion, under the guise of compassion, is the primary strategy employed to sell us on killing children, as well as the infirm and elderly. Parents, friends, school counselors, self-styled religious leaders and others often pressure young mothers, with little or no regard for the lives at stake or the common good. To be certain, many of those counseling abortion are themselves victims, their priorities, their understanding of life and of good and evil having been twisted by the false prophets of narcissism and nihilism. Which is why we must endeavor, like St. Francis, to be instruments of peace: "Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is darkness, light; where there is despair, hope."

Read recently published stories of women who suffered coerced abortions at George Tiller's late-term abortion mill, Women's Health Care Services.

Ex-Abortion Clinic Owner Tells Pro-life Group Truth about Abortion Business

By Michael Baggot

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 30, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The United Methodist pro-life ministry Lifewatch recently hosted a free luncheon featuring former abortion clinic owner Carol Everett.

Everett spent six years working in the abortion industry in the early 80s, before experiencing a profound conversion. In 1995 she founded the Heidi Group - a group of inner-city crisis pregnancy centers named after one of Everett's own children that she aborted in 1973.

"We are an injured nation, for many of us are unwilling to admit or deal with our pain," Everett told her audience.

Everett has testified in the past that while she was working in the abortion industry she was on track to make over a million dollars a year. "You can imagine what my motivation was," she said. "I sold abortions."

In order to sell as many abortions as possible the telephone "counselors" at Everett's clinics were trained to lead distraught women callers to think that there is only one solution to their unwanted pregnancy, and then to assure women that their child is only a "blob of tissue" and that the procedure itself will be basically painless.

"I cannot tell you one thing that happens in an abortion clinic that is not a lie."

"When we opened" Everett told Lifewatch, "we did 45 abortions in the first month. The last month (we were opened) we did 545." Everett was paid $25 per abortion.

To address the plight of women considering abortion, Everett's Heidi Group centers offer parenting classes, Bible studies, counseling, and prenatal medical care.

The mission of Lifewatch, also called the Taskforce of United Methodists on Abortion and Sexuality, is to "work to create in church and society esteem for human life at its most vulnerable, specifically for the unborn child and for the Woman who contemplates abortion."

Lifewatch is committed to removing language supportive of abortion in the Book of Discipline, a guiding document for the Methodist community. The Book of Discipline defends "the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures" in order to protect the "well-being of the mother."

New Booklet Outlines Frightening Facts about Contraception

"Most people have no idea of the abortifacient nature of the birth control pill," says author

By Michael Baggot

HESPERIA, CA, April 29, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Without a single reference to a Church document or a passage of Scripture, a new booklet from author Victor Claveau demonstrates that popular contraceptives, considered hallmarks of our modern culture and signs of civilized man's technological conquest of nature, kill at least 6 million US children a year, subject women to a host of harmful side effects, subvert the meaning of sex and family life, and have played a key role in a black genocide.

Claveau's 28-page "'Birth Control and Abortifacients' begins with a detailed analysis of the various standard methods of contraception, noting their abortifacient action and harmful side effects on women.

Claveau pays particular attention to the popular birth control pills that have been widely accepted, even by professedly "pro-life" women, as a means to reduce the sort of unwanted pregnancies that often end in abortion.

Birth control pills artificially flood a woman's body with high levels of hormones in order to produce three main effects on her body: First, the hormones can suppress ovulation, thus preventing the formation of eggs. Second, the hormones can thicken the cervical mucus, thus preventing sperm from reaching the egg. Third, the hormones can alter the uterine lining, thus preventing the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus that provides the newly formed zygote with the oxygen and nutrients he needs to live.

Early birth control pills contained high levels of progestin and estrogen hormones and were able to suppress ovulation more than 90% of the time, thus preventing the union of a sperm and egg after practically every act of sexual intercourse.

Multiple reports of harmful side effects from the high dose pill, however, forced the product off of the market in the United States and Canada, while pills containing lower doses of the same hormones took their place.

Because the low-dose pill is less effective at preventing ovulation, more eggs are produced that will eventually fuse with sperm.

"As an egg is microscopic, it can be difficult to tell in any given case whether an egg really has been released. But Dutch gynecologist Dr. Nine Van der Vange made an extensive study of women using these pills. She found proof that an egg had been released in 4% of the cases, and found follicle growth typical of what one finds in early pregnancy in at least 52% of cases," writes Claveau.

Another type of birth control pill, called the mini-pill, contains less hormones than the low-dose pill and allows for even more instances of conception.

"Dr. Ronald Chez, a scientist at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), publicly stated that the new "mini" Pills of today, with their lower estrogen dose, allow ovulation up to 50% of the time!" writes Claveau.

As a result of their inconsistency in suppressing ovulation, routinely distributed birth control pills can act as abortifacients by allowing for the conception of zygotes who will die due to their inability to implant in the altered uterine lining.

"Most people have no idea of the abortifacient nature of the birth control pill," Claveau told LifeSiteNews.com.

Claveau cites a study from the Pharmacists for Life that estimates that various popular contraceptive methods kill 6.5-11.5 million unborn children annually in the United States.

"The crux of the matter is that it has been said that birth control pills usually act by contraception, that any abortions that result should be accepted as an unfortunate accident. This is a little like saying that it's alright to fire a gun randomly in the dark, as you usually won't hit anybody, and in the few cases when you do, it should be accepted as an unfortunate accident."

Aside from potentially killing their newly conceived child, the birth control pill can also wreak havoc on the user's own body.

"According to the director of Planned Parenthood of England the birth control pill causes 150 different chemical changes in a woman's body. Not one of these is beneficial."

"Other side effects of birth control pills are the development of high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke, heart attack, depression, weight gain, migraine, dark spots on the skin and difficulty with breastfeeding."

While the condom lacks the abortifacient capacitates found in various birth control pills, shots, and intrauterine devices, they can often fail to protect users from increasingly pervasive sexually transmitted diseases.

"One reason condoms fail in preventing the transfer of AIDS is that latex condoms have tiny intrinsic holes called 'voids.' Sperm is larger than the holes, but the AIDS virus is 50 times smaller than these tiny holes which makes it easy for the virus to pass through," explains Claveau.

"To give you an idea of how easy it would be for the virus to pass through these holes, just imagine a ping pong ball going through a basketball hoop."

Cleaveau presents Natural Family Planning (NFP) as a safe, effective, and morally upright alternative to contraceptives.

In contrast to the "calendar rhythm method", NFP is "based on direct observations of various signs that occur in a woman's body (changes in the cervix, cervical mucus, and temperature) which tell her when ovulation occurs." These relatively easy-to-make observations can be done in minutes and have successfully been taught to illiterate couples in third world countries.

Unlike contraception, NFP respects the dual purposes of sexual intercourse: to share love and produce new life, says Claveau. Furthermore, Claveau debunks the myth that NFP is merely "Catholic contraception."

"Here's the difference between artificial birth control and NFP. In the first case, one does something (takes a pill, uses a condom, etc.) to deliberately 'close' the life-giving power of sexual intercourse.

"In NFP, however, no such step is taken. The spouses do not act against their fertility. They do not reject the link between the two meanings of sex (love and life). They simply follow the natural patterns of the body's fertility and infertility - patterns placed there by God Himself."

As the author explains, NFP is rooted in virtue, not merely physiology. The practicing couple learns self-control, communication, cooperation, and how to express their love in non-physical ways at times in order to resist the temptation to reduce their spouse to an object of selfish pleasure.

"Since the spouses can ignore worries about contraceptive failure or side-effects of the pill," they can actually more freely and fully enjoy the pleasures of the marital act.

Claveau adds that couples should only practice NFP for serious reasons, such as health or financial problems, lest they become guilty of "family avoidance," rather than "family planning."

The author next reflects upon Planned Parenthood (PP) founder Margaret Sanger's destructive and racist legacy. Sanger favored the sterilization of "genetically inferior races" and was concerned that "the poorer areas, particularly in the South . . . are producing alarmingly more than their share of future generations."

"The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal," wrote Sanger. "We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the Minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."

In addition to rallying black clergy to their cause, PP has also manipulated language to dehumanize the genetically distinct human life biological science recognizes in the mother's womb.

Nonetheless, some prominent black figures have seen through PP's deceptive tactics and have opposed their anti-life mission. "If the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is to live, our babies must live," Claveau quotes Dr. Martin Luther King's niece, Dr. Alved King as saying.

Claveau concludes his work with an exhortation to black leadership to fight the black genocide Sanger and her followers have perpetrated through contraception and abortion.

"Since the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion in 1973, over 17 million black babies have been aborted. That is about one third or more of the black population in the United States! Approximately two out of three black babies are aborted in the U.S.

"If that is not racial genocide, what is? What will it take for the Black moral leadership in America to come to grips with this reality?"

Claveau's well-researched, clear, and concise booklet promises to rouse men and women, black and white, to take action against the contraception and abortion that have devastated our contemporary society.

Claveau told LifeSiteNews.com that inspired readers' first response to the work should be prayer. He added that "a certain activism is needed," and that "People need to get the word out."

The author encourages readers to spread the booklet, especially among church leadership, whom he challenges to "read this booklet and preach on it." Claveau is offering discounts for bulk purchases of the work.

Student sidewalk counselors give women alternatives to PP services

More Than 70 Virginia Students Bring "Prayerful, Peaceful" Presence to D.C. Planned Parenthood

By Michael Baggot

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 29, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Sacrificing their precious sleep and leisure time, more than 70 students from Virginia's Christendom College filled the lawns outside a D.C. Planned Parenthood (PP) clinic on Saturday morning to prayerfully battle abortion and support a handful of student sidewalk counselors offering information on crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) to women entering and exiting the facility.

Saturday's "Mega-Shield" event was the culminating event of the semester for Shield of Roses, a Christendom pro-life group comprised of students who travel about an hour and fifteen minutes each Saturday morning to the nearest PP facility. Most of the students attend a 7am Mass offered on campus before piling into school vans or personal vehicles.

Paul Wilson, the current student head of Shield of Roses, promotes Shield on campus and leads a program of prayer that includes 20 decades of the Rosary, traditional hymns, and the chaplet of Divine Mercy. Members of the college choir also sing beautiful polyphonic pieces that sharply contrast with the insults and profanity sometimes thrown at the group by passers-by.

About two decades ago, a doctor told Wilson's mother that her healthy college sophomore would be born retarded and should thus be aborted. His mother's decision to choose life has given Wilson a special motivation to work on behalf of those threatened by abortion.

"It's painful to watch people go in there [PP]," Wilson told LifeSiteNews.com. "Evil has to be confronted."

Wilson and fellow Shield members' commitment to prayer is rooted in their conviction that it is only "through God that we can do anything at all."

In addition to the many students focused on prayer, a number of students take part in sidewalk counseling.

Student counselors try to teach women about the dangerous practices occurring inside PP and inform them about abortion alternatives. They also give interested women brochures detailing the harmful effects of abortion and contraception, as well as contact information for local CPCs.

"There are a lot of women who just don't know there are crisis pregnancy centers," Kathryn Kujawski, the current Director of Sidewalk Counseling, told LifeSiteNews.com.

Students interested in sidewalk counseling first spend time closely observing experienced counselors and watch a video from expert counselor Msgr. Philip J. Reilly, founder of the Helpers of God's Precious Infants.

Counseling is meant to be a calm, compassionate invitation to women to explore alternatives to PP services, explained Kujawaski. Counselors should "not be overbearing," since the students are seeking to approach the women with a "prayerful, peaceful attitude."

When a counseled woman decides not to go through with an abortion, a Shield member often announces the "save" to the campus community during lunch on Monday. Report of a "save" fills the cafeteria with applause and strengthens the resolve of Shield members.

"When there are turn arounds, it's a reminder that there are people who need help and don't have information."

"Saves" often happen when least expected. Kujawski recalled that one turn around came on a cold, snowy, December morning when student turnout was at a low due to upcoming finals.

"God shows us our efforts do have fruits, even if we don't always see them," said Kujawski.

As another semester of Shield draws to a close, Wilson, Kujawski, and other experienced Shield members have worked to train a new group of students, so that each Saturday morning the concluding battle cry of the group can still be heard in the nation's capital, "Viva Christo Rey!" Long live Christ the King!

Children as Sex Objects

MEDIA ADVISORY, April 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- We share the dismay of others at the recent photos taken by Annie Leibovitz of Miley Cyrus. Any media outlet that exhibits a child as a sex object needs to understand the degree to which this type of behavior is harming our society as a whole and putting our young women at risk.

Human Sex Trafficking, the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world, is making BILLIONS of dollars from the sale of children for sex. This criminal enterprise could not flourish if it weren't for the huge DEMAND that exists by our global society for a sexual encounter with a young woman or child. Human Trafficking has become the second largest criminal enterprise in the world, and yet it continues to grow unchecked as traffickers who sexually exploit these children for money cannot seem to find enough young women to feed the insatiable appetite of these abusers. Approximately half of all victims of sex slavery are under the age of 18, and the trend is for these victims to get younger all the time.

For this reason we are calling Annie Leibovitz, Vanity Fair magazine, and the parents of Miley Cyrus to task for their lack of leadership and good judgment in this publicity stunt. There are literally millions of young women trapped in the living hell of sex slavery as our media continues to blur the lines and increasingly treat our young women as sex objects. Nobody knows how these pictures and the countless others we see across the web, TV, movies and magazines will affect the perpetrators of these crimes. All we know is that this cancer is spreading out of control, and we need to take drastic steps to curb the appetites of a society out of control.

Free For Life Ministries, Inc. is a faith-based 501(c)3 organization based in Nashville, Tennessee that raises funds for safe houses worldwide that have a proven track record in the rescue, restoration, and reintegration of victims of sex slavery.

SAINT PADRE PIO

The body of St. Padre Pio exhumed last week

September 25, 2006

"…Imitate the lives of saints and may they be an example for you…"

October 25, 1994

"…I invite you to open yourselves and to live, taking the saints as an example. Mother Church has chosen them, that they may be an impulse for your daily life…"

October 25, 2004

"…Imitate the lives of saints so that they may be an incentive and teachers on the way of holiness…"

Body of St. Padre Pio

The body of Padre Pio exhumed last week. Archbishop Domenico D'Ambrosio, who led the service to exhume the body of St. Padre Pio, said, "We could clearly make out the beard. The top part of the skull is partly skeletal but the chin is perfect and the rest of the body is well preserved. The knees, hands and nails were all clearly visible." Part of St. Padre Pio's face has been treated by a mortician

This picture witnesses a real live miracle ongoing, that the body of a saint after 40 years of death looks not even dead but only asleep. Many who have gone to Medjugorje have had devotion to Padre Pio. Marija once said, "Once you have converted but do not regularly read about the saints, you will have a hard time keeping converted." Why would this be? Because the trials and difficulties that come with conversion must be navigated through. The saints have cut the trail and their lives are the map. Thank Our Lady so that She will thank God for the miracles occurring in our midst, directly before our eyes. Stare at the picture. Mediate upon the miracle, an active super-natural grace where after 40 years, St. Padre Pio's body has been well preserved. Archbishop D'Ambrosio said upon exhuming the body, "If Padre Pio allows me, I might say he looks as though he just had a manicure." What a grace for those who went face to face with this saint in Confession and now over 40 years in the grave, look again face to face.

New York Cardinal Egan Slams Giuliani for Receiving Communion at Papal Mass - Demands Meeting

At last we are seeing some action by a Church leader regarding the sacrilegious Communions by Pro-Abortion politicians. Note that Giuliani had agreed with Cardinal Egan that he would not receive Holy Communion while he served as Mayor of New York. It's strange that he didn't continue that decision now.

D.J.

By John-Henry Westen

NEW YORK, April 28, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The decision by several prominent pro-abortion politicians to publicly receive Holy Communion at papal Masses during the recent visit of Pope Benedict XVI, despite clear Church teaching that says that their reception of Communion would constitute a grave sacrilege, may have backfired.  While at first it seemed like it would be business as usual, today Cardinal Edward Egan of New York issued a statement condemning the reception of Holy Communion by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Archdiocese informed LifeSiteNews.com that the issue is being brought forward publicly at this time "because it has become a public issue and a public question."

"The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God," said Egan.  "Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind."

He continued, "Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion."

"I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York," said Egan, "and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding."

Responding to the matter in the press, Giuliani said that his faith "is a deeply personal matter and should remain confidential."

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, responded, "The Catholic faith is not simply about one's private and confidential relationship with God. It's public, as evidenced by the fact that Mr. Giuliani received Communion in public. Mr. Giuliani's support of legal abortion is also public. That's why Cardinal Egan's remarks are entirely appropriate, as is his expectation that Mr. Giuliani abide by those remarks."

The Pope, just prior to his elevation to the pontificate, issued a document to the US Bishops which outlined that in keeping with Church teaching, pro-abortion politicians who present themselves for communion even after being warned not to "must" be denied communion.

LifeSiteNews.com asked Joseph Zwilling, Director Office of Communications at the Archdiocese of New York, if there had been any communication on the matter between the Pope or Vatican and the Archdiocese.  Zwilling replied, "No."

American Life League Praises Cardinal Egan

WASHINGTON, D.C. (28 April 2008) — American Life League president Judie Brown released the following statement following Cardinal Egan's reaction to pro-abortion Catholic Rudy Giuliani's taking the Eucharist:

"Today a great blessing came to our attention as we received word of the remarkable statement of Edward Cardinal Egan, Archdiocese of New York, regarding the sacrilegious behavior of former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. When we wrote to the Archbishop several days ago asking him to address this, we were confident that he indeed would right this terrible wrong."

"American Life League is grateful to Cardinal Egan for his statement, and we are hopeful that he will reiterate the need to enforce Church law, specifically Canon Law 915, so that all of his ordained priests, deacons and Eucharistic ministers understand that no public figure who supports abortion should ever get away with such a despicable act again."

"Canon Law 915 states, 'Those ... who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Communion.'"

"The act of abortion is a grave sin. Those who are in public life —claim to be Catholic— and support abortion are indeed persisting in a grave sin.  American Life League's Crusade for the Defense of Our Catholic Church has been asking American Bishops to enforce Canon 915 since our campaign began in 2003.  We are indeed gratified that Cardinal Egan has seen this as a priority as well.  Protecting Christ from sacrilege is an honor and we applaud Cardinal Egan for making this clear."

American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death.  For more information or press inquiries, please contact Michael Hichborn at 540.659.7900.

From Jill Stanek's Blog: Pro-Life Pulse, we read:

Pro-life presence at NAACP dinner

naacp 1.jpgAll eyes were on keynote speaker Rev. Jeremiah Wright last night at the NAACP Detroit chapter's 53rd annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner.

But pro-lifers gave the whopping crowd of 10,000 entering the event something else to focus on: abortion and black genocide.

naacp 2.jpgPro-lifer Judy Paga emailed me photos, taken early into the protest, after which several others joined, and a report.

3 black pastors organized the protest, and "there were more blacks participating in the protest than I have ever seen," wrote Judy. "It was very effective to see them holding the Margaret Sanger quotes and sharing truth."naacp 3.jpg

Judy said that while Detroit police - including many white - have in past years been "belligerent and confrontational" to pro-life protesters at these NAACP dinners, this year they were "friendly and receptive," even accepting literature.

In fact, pro-lifers distributed thousands of flyers. "We had very few refuse," wrote Judy.

Priests for Life Comments on Giuliani Communion Issue

WASHINGTON, April 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rudy Giuliani, in response to Cardinal Egan's statement that he should not have received Communion because of his support of abortion rights, said that his faith "is a deeply personal matter and should remain confidential."

Fr. Pavone continued, "In this election cycle, we are challenging all public officials who support legal abortion to admit exactly what it is. We have posted on YouTube a video demonstration of the two most common abortion procedures ( www.YouTube.com/frfrankpavone), as described by abortionists. We respectfully ask Mr. Giuliani, and everyone else who thinks abortion should be legal, to tell us whether, when they say 'abortion,' they are talking about the same thing that these videos depict."

Constitution Party Gives Newman Rousing Reception

April 28th, 2008

Kansas City, MO - Operation Rescue President Troy Newman delivered a speech at the Constitutional Party National Convention on Friday afternoon that drew thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

Newman's speech was titled "Preachers, Politicians, and Pro-life Leaders: Taking the Life Out of the Pro-life Movement." While it described some of the shortcomings of the movement, the talk overall was one of encouragement and hope that soon decriminalized abortion will come to an end through perseverance and hard work.

"I was very moved at the enthusiastic support I received from the Constitution Party," said Newman. "They understand that abortion is not just a political issue, but is the most important moral issue of our day. I was honored to be a part of their convention."

Dr. Alveda King: Defund Planned Parenthood

ATLANTA, April 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Dr. Alveda King, Pastoral Associate of Priests for Life and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., today said that a new study released by Students for Life of America reinforces the call of black leaders to eliminate federal subsidies to Planned Parenthood.

"It's time to let freedom ring for the babies," said Dr. King. "The Students for Life report on Planned Parenthood's targeting of African Americans for abortion spells out why taxpayers should not be forced to contribute to that organization. The government should not be subsidizing racism, but that's exactly what it's doing through Planned Parenthood."

The study examines programs and incidents dating from Planned Parenthood's founding through the most recent scandal of seven Planned Parenthood chapters' willingness to accept donations for the exclusive purpose of aborting black babies.

"Defending human life is part of the civil rights struggle and I and my fellow pro-life African American leaders are not going away," added Dr. King. "We are uniting civil rights and moral rights to fulfill the dream of what my uncle called 'the beloved community.' America needs to know that black leaders do support life. We start where life begins, with the babies, and we will march on until abortion, racism, and all society's ills bow to the truth that we are all one race."

Spain and Italy: Biological Will and Family Day

VATICAN - THE WORDS OF DOCTRINE
by Rev Nicola Bux and Rev Salvatore Vitiello -

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The latest news is that now Spain has a new law on a so-called Biological Will, “the right to be able to choose to die with dignity” (Sic!). Although this is not the place for a detailed analysis of the bill, it is necessary to point out the persistence of a relative trend which has marked that country for several years. A trend which fails to correspond to the actual sentiments of the Catholic people of Spain, but which is forced on them through the media and ideologically by a political idea determinant rather than determined, with regard to the will of the people.

Although the “secularist zapaterian wind” appears to have ceased, its consequences are still visible and will continue to be seen until it becomes absolutely clear that any legislative measures against the human person, inevitably in the end harm society undermining the whole nation.

Unfortunately this observation alone, reveals the subordination of the person to the state, typical of certain ideologies of a secularist nature. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “ Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia […] is morally unacceptable. Thus an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person ”. (Cf. CCC n. 2277).

Now Italy faces a major task: a clamp down on Europe's trend towards self-destruction. The 'old' continent, as the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said, has fallen into a state of “self-hate”, and is on its way apparently inexorably to “taking leave from history ” (Cf. Pera-Ratzinger, “Senza Radici”, Milan 2005).
Italy, as if has often happened in history, can and must represent the workshop of Europe's moral reawakening: the place, the space of thought and civilization, in which to reaffirm, with confidence and conviction, that the human person is absolutely untouchable with regard to any sort of manipulation; the values of human life, death, the family and education cannot be “submitted” to the laws of individuals or governments, instead they obey the dignity and the structure of the human being, and laws cannot fail to recognize and sustain this untouchable nature.

In order to shoulder such a great task, of historical importance, Italy has before it only one path: the family. Without wasting, indeed by putting to use the important legacy of last year's 'Family Day', from which emerged proposals and persons capable of giving new life to the family and with it, society and the common good, it is urgent and necessary to put the natural and public institute of the family back at the center of the country's social, political and economic attention.

Every initiative in favor of the family, is in actual fact, a reality and an initiative in favor of the whole of society, since, the family safeguards and promotes the values on which the whole of society is founded: human life, education, respect for others, solidarity, care for the vulnerable and the elderly, and the best of everything which has been generated by the humanist and Christian culture.
The country should not lose the important intuition of Family Day which placed the family at the center of the debate: only through the family, will Italy really change, make a fresh start, grow and become a cultural workshop capable of offering new answers to herself and to Europe. To prevent the 'old' continent, from “taking leave of history”.

Hungry For The Truth

By Fr. Don Blickhan

The first time that I noticed it was while preaching. I found it unsettling.

Everyone was listening intently, their eyes riveted to me, hanging on my every word. "What is happening here; what am I saying that is so powerfully connecting with them?" It is not unusual in preaching to observe people drifting off, day-dreaming till the sermon was over. Now they were listening intently.

Over the years I had evolved in my preaching style. Perhaps it was because I was tired of hearing the same old sermons that I decided to place an emphasis on the basics, the fundamentals that we rarely talked about anymore.

I began to talk about sin, grace, salvation, hell, Satan, angels. Some said it was the first time they had ever heard a sermon on hell or on angels. They loved it!

One individual recently wrote, "I am appreciative of the fact that your homilies are not all sugar coated lovey-dovey fluff. I was very impressed when you spoke about the devil here tempting us, and about no cross in the sanctuary because of the attitudes of the people. It's nice how you get down to brass tacks."

What I came to see was that people listen when you teach the truth. When I departed from this emphasis I would lose the people; they would become glassy-eyed and restless.

There is a hunger in the people. When a person tastes a fine recipe, he relishes it. When a dish is not palatable he pushes it away. "No thank you!"

Over the past few years, I have noticed that when people hear the Truth, not only do they listen, but they begin to get excited about their Faith, and they want to learn more. Some have asked for book suggestions, one even began a master's program in theology.

People want the truth - and instinctively know the truth when they hear it - and they get excited and listen. It changes their lives. Perhaps that is what Jesus meant when he said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32)

This is also what the late Holy Father, John Paul II meant when he said that there was a certain splendor to the truth, "The splendor of truth shines forth... Truth enlightens man's intelligence and shapes his freedom, leading him to know and love the Lord." (Veritatis Splendor)

I also noticed this in another area of my pastoral ministry. As I instructed couples for marriage and took time to share the Church's teaching on contraception and natural family planning, I was astounded. I thought they would be resistant. What surprised me was not only that people received this information with much interest, but that they had never heard the material before.

As I reflected on my nearly 34 years as a priest, I realized I have never heard one of my bishops speak or write on contraception nor natural family planning. But then few ever hear priests preach on this vital area of Catholic life either. We have been strangely silent. Why?

People are instinctively attracted to beauty, be that beauty a stunning vista, a moving poem, a great musical work, a powerful painting or an attractive person. Such beauty turns our head. It captures us - and it captures us because it is a reflection of the Truth and Light which is God.

Jesus Christ is that light. Jesus Christ is that Truth. Why have we priests kept a bushel basket over that light?

People want the truth - and we priests have not been giving it to them!

As John Paul II so often preached, "Do not be afraid!"

Student Describes Moving Experience With Fr. Pavone Outside Toronto Abortion Center

Screaming, yelling man silenced by listing of women who have died from "safe" abortions

By 8th grade student Arianna Comella

TORONTO, April 25, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On Friday April 19, missing half a day of school wasn't the only thing on my mind, like it would have been for any other grade eight student, but instead, I was sitting in class counting down the minutes to meeting an amazing and inspirational pro-lifer, National Director of Priests for Life, Father Frank Pavone. Little did I know that the weekend ahead of me would confirm my call to the pro-life movement.

Knowing that I was one of the three who had the privilege of picking up Father Frank from the airport made me even more anxious than I already was, just knowing that I was going to meet him! From the airport, we took Father Pavone to The Cabbagetown Women's Clinic, an abortion clinic in downtown Toronto, where we met up with other pro-life members in the community.

Right next door to the clinic is the Aid to Women Center, an organization that helps pregnant women. I was happy to meet Theresa Smyth, the director of Aid to Women, and was blown away by all of the baby pictures and baby clothes all around the office. From there we walked across the street for a prayer vigil with women from the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, and held signs saying, "Pregnant women need support, not abortion".

During this hour-long prayer vigil led by Father Frank, we got many negative responses, but also received many positive ones. One thing that sticks out in my mind the most is a man who approached the group yelling and screaming, "in the 1960's, all of you women wanted abortion, and now you don't want it anymore?! Make up your minds!"

As he approached the area where I was standing, I turned to a friend of mine, and we immediately began singing our pro-life song which begins with, "I will speak out for those who have no voices". The man continued to yell and chant, but became silent right after Father Frank had listed all the names of women who have died in so called "safe", legal abortions. This man continued standing there, but now he was standing in silence. It was then that I felt calming and peace among the group, and had even more hope and faith in what we were doing.

On the car ride to Father Pavone's hotel, I wasn't only able to get my feet wet, but instead get them soaked in all of the amazing pro-life tips and information that he had to offer. He spoke about how he became the National Director of Priests for Life, and how much he is enjoying everything that he is doing, even if it means getting in a plane just like anyone else gets into a car.

Fr. Pavone also spoke about his two famous YouTube videos that can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us_y9GP_-DA, and at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBOAPleF1t0. ; Although these videos may be disturbing to see and hear, they are unfortunately the truth behind abortion-the reality. These videos are very powerful and effective tools that can be used to assist in the abolishing of abortion. Father Pavone asked that we pass these links on to everyone we know, because it is so important that people are educated on what abortion really is.

Father Frank wasn't just in town for the amazing experience that took place on Friday April 18th, but was actually in town for the Annual Catholic Renewal Ministry's Lift Jesus Higher Rally, which took place on Saturday. This year's rally was incredible and was attended by 10,000 people. The theme was "Empowering your Life".

There were various inspirational speakers, uplifting music, and amazing skits, including pro-life skits. Because Father Frank was a guest speaker, I felt that the rally in general was even more powerful for me, personally, than in previous years. I felt as if he was speaking directly to me. It was really a confirmation that I am on the right path in participating actively in the pro-life movement.

The main things that I have learned within the few years that I have been active in the pro-life movement is to pray, have faith, and stay strong in what you believe in, and trust in Jesus.

As we saw on Friday, and at many other previous events, pro-lifers will often find themselves being persecuted, made fun of, and treated poorly. Faith is the only way that we will overcome these unfortunate events. Without faith and hope, where are we?

How can we say that that we will abolish abortion without complete and utter faith and trust in God? We may not be able to change the laws, but we must make abortion become unthinkable.
