| This Christmas, Defend Life in Africa and Around the World Inspired by the Holy Spirit, the prophet Isaiah told the people of Israel to remain faithful to God because He would raise them up and send the Messiah to them. Filled with joy, he wrote: and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Yes, unto us a Child is born! And, as the Evangelist Mark tells us, He will "give His life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). And yet, even as you and I and Christians the world over prepare ourselves to celebrate the fact that "unto us a Child is born," the heralds of the culture of death are working to make sure countless millions of innocent children are NEVER born... and equally horrific, NEVER even conceived! So much so, in fact, that at their recent Synod in Rome, the bishops of this beleaguered continent called abortion a "ferocious onslaught." This onslaught includes massive pro-abortion propaganda... coercive sterilization programs... government run condom distribution campaigns... and a host of other anti-life evils. This is why Archbishop John Baptist Odama of Uganda called on all the world's Catholics to help the people of Africa "stand up for the 'consistent ethic' for the respect for life." Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, head of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Assistance to Health Care Workers, echoed that message when he called on all Catholics to: "Let the Church's voice be heard on the subject of life from its start to its natural conclusion."And that's why I've sent you this urgent email! I have pledged to Archbishop Zimowski and all the bishops of Africa that HLI will continue to work in SOLIDARITY with them as they fight to protect their flock from the abortion demon!But, I cannot possibly fulfill that pledge without your immediate help today.
