Pollster: Republicans Will Take House From Pro-Abortion Democrats in Election
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pollster Scott Rasmussen, who runs one of the most respected polling firms in the nation that is closely tracking the November elections, predicts Republicans will pick up 55 seats in races for the House of Representatives. That's well over the 39 needed to recapture the chamber.

Last week, Ipsos pollster Cliff Young projected a 227-208 split for the GOP.

Should GOP candidates pick up that amount, the November election will have resulted in a landslide victory for pro-life advocates.

With pro-abortion Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, currently controlling the House, the pro-life movement has been on the defensive as friends of pro-abortion President Barack Obama railroaded abortion funding and a pro-abortion health care bill through Congress.

That could change next month and Republicans, who will undoubtedly elect pro-life Rep. John Boehner to become speaker, would pick up the House for the first time since 2006.

Rasmussen said the bigger question is not whether the GOP will win the House but whether they will also capture the Senate, where several election battles in states like California, Nevada, Colorado, and Washington pit strongly pro-life against strongly pro-abortion candidates.

Republicans should have 48 seats [after the elections next month], Democrats 47, and five seats could slide either way, Human Events reports Rasmussen saying last night.

Rasmussen considers California, Illinois, Washington, West Virginia, and Nevada all too close to call at this point. Full story at LifeNews.com

Angle Leads Reid 50-47 in Nevada After Reid's Abortion Coverup in Debate
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- After Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid did his best during their debate to cover up the abortion funding in the ObamaCare health care reform bill he shepherded through the Senate, a new Rasmussen Reports poll out today shows pro-life candidate Sharron Angle leading 50-47.

The survey of likely voters in Nevada finds Angle with 50% to Reid s 47% -- and another 2% prefer another candidate in the race, and one percent are undecided.

"A week ago, Angle held an insignificant 49% to 48% lead in a contest that has been marked for months by its closeness. In seven of eight surveys prior to this one since July, Reid and Angle have been three points apart or less. Both have hit the 50% mark one time," Rasmussen noted.

The survey of 750 likely Nevada voters was conducted on Sunday and the race is considered a tossup because the three point lead is within the four percent margin of error.

The new poll comes after the debate last week between Reid and Angle, which saw the top Senate Democrat falsely saying the Hyde amendment is preserved by the legislation. Full story at LifeNews.com

Democrats for Life Attacks Pro-Life Susan B. Anthony List on ObamaCare, Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The renegade "pro-life" organization Democrats for Life of America has set its sights on another pro-life group after initially attacking the National Right to Life Committee. DFLA is now going after the Susan B. Anthony List because SBA is letting voters know about candidates who voted for the abortion-funding health care bill.

At issue is whether or not the legislation funds abortion -- which every other pro-life group explains is no longer in dispute, especially after the Obama administration attempted to fund abortions in three states via ObamaCare before it was exposed.

DFLA's attack comes after Cincinnati, Ohio congressman Steve Driehaus filed a criminal complaint against the SBA List for trying to purchase billboard advertisements saying he voted for taxpayer funding of abortions by voting for the ObamaCare bill.

The Ohio Elections Commission ruled initially in Driehaus' favor, saying SBA List is supposedly wrong to make the accusation.

DFLA seized on the ruling and issued a statement LifeNews.com received today saying the Susan B. Anthony List is acting "with reckless disregard for the truth in their campaign claim that Congressman Driehaus voted in favor of taxpayer funded abortion when he voted for" the ObamaCare bill.

She went on to say SBA is "lying" and that its "lies" will "have consequences."

"We knew all along that we had the truth on our side and we are pleased that the Commission ruled in our favor," DFLA president Kristen Day said.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, responded in a statement to LifeNews.com.

For a group that only wants a fair debate over the issues, they have a funny way of showing it. Open and honest debate is the last thing the Democrats for Life are fighting for. They re willing to resort to criminal statutes to stifle our position," she said. Full story at LifeNews.com

Why It's Absurd to Deny Obama's Health Care Bill Contains Abortion Funding
by Deal Hudson

With the decision of the Ohio Elections Commission to allow a hearing to decide whether the Susan B. Anthony List has falsely represented the voting record of Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-OH), the question is again raised: Was abortion funding authorized by the healthcare legislation signed into law by President Obama?

The complaint arose from the SBA List's use of billboards declaring that Rep. Driehaus of Ohio's 1st Congressional District had voted for taxpayer-funded abortions by voting for the healthcare bill. If Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA, is found guilty, she could go to jail. Supporting Driehaus's effort to imprison Dannenfelser are James Salt, policy director of Catholics United, and Kristen Day, president of Democrats for Life of America.

Driehaus, by the way, had made essentially the same characterization of the healthcare legislation as made by Dannenfelser. On March 19, Driehaus was an original co-sponsor of H. Con. Res. 254, an "enrollment correction," introduced by Rep. Bart Stupak. That resolution would have removed abortion funding from the Senate version of the healthcare bill.

The language of the final healthcare bill -- "Patient Protection and Affordable Health Act" (PPACA) -- had not changed when both Stupak and Driehaus voted for it, and Obama signed it into law. Now, Driehaus is trying to send Marjorie Dannenfelser to jail for precisely the same view of the healthcare bill as expressed in his support for H. Con. Res 254 -- that it authorizes federal tax dollars to be spent on abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Students Nationwide Take Vow of Silence Tomorrow to Highlight Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Tens of thousands of pro-life students in high schools, middle schools and colleges and universities across the country will take a vow of silence tomorrow. They will refuse to speak to their friends and teachers because they are representing the voices of millions of unborn children killed in abortions.

The Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity, a project of Stand True that is now marking its seventh year is observed by students who want to stand in solidarity with unborn children who would otherwise have become their classmates.

With 52 million babies killed via abortions since 1973, an entire generation of students has been lost to abortion.

"By refusing to speak the students create a huge buzz and abortion will be the most talked about subject on campus," Bryan Kemper, Stand True's president, told LifeNews.com. "This generation is fed up with the senseless violence of abortion as is determined to bring an end the abortion holocaust."

Kemper says the event has not only changed hearts and minds on abortion but has resulted in at least 80 confirmations of students who decided against keeping an appointment for an abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Second Pro-Life Freedom Ride Takes Abortion Message to Buckle of the Bible Belt
Knoxville, TN (LifeNews.com) -- Tennessee is the "buckle of the Bible Belt," the home of country and Christian music and headquarters of the Southern Baptist Convention and yet it has "the most pro-abortion state constitution in America," according to the Rev. David Shelley, pastor of Smith Chapel Baptist Church in Knoxville.

Rev. Shelley made his remarks Oct. 15 at the opening night rally of the second national Pro-Life Freedom Ride organized by Priests for Life.

The Knoxville-to-Chattanooga route was chosen not to highlight the state s abortion access but to acknowledge its link to the civil rights Freedom Rides of 1961 and to point to Chattanooga, an abortion-free city and a site of healing and hope.

During his remarks at the rally at The Tennessee Theater, Father Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, called the Pro-Life Freedom Rides a symbolic ride, a simple ride, and yet so profound, representing the pro-life movement in all its dimensions. The first ride, from Birmingham to Atlanta, took place in July.

The theme of this second ride was twofold: Freedom of Justice, focusing on mobilizing voters for the elections, and Freedom of Healing, focusing on healing after abortion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Wisconsin: Scott Walker Heads to Likely Victory, Video Exposes Barrett on Abortion
Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker appears headed to an election victory in the Wisconsin gubernatorial race over Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett as polls show him consistently leading. Meanwhile, a pro-life group in the state has released a new video exposing Barrett's pro-abortion position.

Walker leads the last three polls taken in the race by an average of nine percentage points.

A survey released last week by Rasmussen Reports of likely Wisconsin voters finds Walker earning 51% of the vote, while Barrett receives 42% support. One percent (1%) favors another candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Two weeks ago, Walker, the county executive of Milwaukee County, held a 50% to 44% advantage over his Democratic opponent and Walker has consistently been leading the race.

Now, the Wisconsin Right to Life Political Action Committee has released a new video exposing Barrett's pro-abortion position.

The new "explosive video" "exposes Tom Barrett's shameful record against life" WRTL told LifeNews.com today. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Leader Dr. Mildred Jefferson, Former Right to Life President, Passes Away
Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Dr. Mildred Jefferson was known throughout pro-life circles for her tender spirit and encouraging the next generation of pro-life leaders to take up the mantle of the pro-life cause. Her ever-present-smile will be missed, as Jefferson passed away over the weekend, dying at her home peacefully on Friday night.

Jefferson is known as one of the founders of the National Right to Life Committee and was elected as vice-chairman of the board in June 1973. She subsequently served as chairman of the board and, from 1975-1978, served three consecutive terms as NRLC president.

That all came after a distinction few pro-life advocates know: Jefferson is the first black woman to graduate from Harvard medical school.

She also was the first woman to be a surgical intern at Boston City Hospital and the first woman admitted to membership in the Boston Surgical Society. Full story at LifeNews.com

Former House Pro-Life Caucus Chair Loses Endorsement Over ObamaCare, Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The former chairman of the Congressional Pro-Life Caucus first lost the support of a statewide pro-life group because of his vote for the abortion-funding ObamaCare bill. Now, Rep. Jim Oberstar of Minnesota has lost the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee.

Due in part to Oberstar's vote and his own pro-life views, NRLC today endorsed Chip Cravaack in his campaign to unseat Oberstar for Minnesota's eight district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"We're proud to endorse Chip Cravaack for Congress," said National Right to Life Political Director Karen Cross.

She told LifeNews.com: "Chip Cravaack is firmly committed to repealing the anti-life provisions of the pro-abortion, pro-rationing Obama health care law passed by Congress in March a law that Jim Oberstar voted for and helped enact."

In a letter to Cravaack sent and released today, NRL PAC noted, "Recently your opponent, Congressman Jim Oberstar, voted to enact President Obama's health care legislation, which will provide government funding for health plans that pay for abortion on demand, and will promote the rationing of lifesaving medical treatments." University of Wisconsin La Crosse Sees Abortion Backers Vandalize Pro-Life Display
LaCrosse, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates at La Crosse University in Wisconsin vandalized a pro-life student the pro-life campus group erected. The organization put up 1,100 crosses to memorialize the unborn children who are killed in abortions and they found the crosses in piles Monday morning along with pro-abortion signs posted.

The UW-LaCrosse student newspaper indicate the vandals "tore from the ground and tossed into piles" the crosses, which has been arranged to appear similar to the Arlington National Cemetery near Washington.

Alyssa Gebel, president of the UW-L Pro-Life Students of La Crosse, which has erected the cross display annually, said members of her group founds the crosses destroyed and pro-abortion signs posted on a fence nearby.

"This is very disappointing to see the efforts of so many students disrespected. To have this happen on a campus where free speech is usually embraced is sad," Gebel said. Full story at LifeNews.com

YouTube Pulls Graphic Abortion Ads Congressional Candidate Running on TV
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Television stations in the nation's capital must, by law, allow the television commercials District of Columbia congressional candidate Missy Smith is running to air. But the Internet is another story and the popular video sharing web site YouTube has pulled them because they contain images of aborted babies.

YouTube is no stranger to removing pro-life videos, and has cut out others featuring graphic images and those pertaining to undercover investigations of Planned Parenthood.

"True to form, YouTube has censored the truth, removing one of Missy s ads, the other to surely soon follow," pro-life nurse Jill Stanek noted on her blog today.

YouTube posted a message on the page previously containing the Smith advertisement, saying the video "has been disabled for violation of the YouTube Community Guidelines."

The notice warns the user who posted the video that a strike against the account has been posted that will be removed in six months. Additional strikes could result in disabling the YouTube account altogether. Full story at LifeNews.com
