Lifeissues.net Newsletter

Dear Friends for Life,

Australia - No Fetal Development: "The Wonder of Life before Birth" was approved in Australia’s NSW Department of Education and Training. It had been approved for primary grades. Its director said the program was "very much biology and no politics." Abortion was not mentioned, except that it is mentioned to be the taking of an unborn life. This fetal development program has now been barred from public schools.

UK slips a little more and now allows contraception and abortion for children. New guidelines from the General Medical Council have instructed physicians in Britain that while doctors should try to inform their parents, nevertheless, this is not required and children of any age may be given contraceptives or have abortions without the knowledge or consent of their parents. Its book on abortion has a "health service" and it speaks of the fact that the "welfare of children and young people" requires such confidentiality. It assumes that a "young person" is competent to consent to what is in their best interest. This type of double talk comes right out of the Planned Parenthood manuals.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Focus on Asia): "Australia and New Zealand’s relations with India are coming under strain" =>  Australia and New Zealand have a reputation as welcoming countries - as the thousands of Britons who migrate Down Under each year could attest. But the countries' relationship with another source of skilled migrants - India - is becoming less friendly by the day. http://www.thefirstpost.co.uk/70012,news-comment,news-politics,india-unimpressed-by-racist-jokes-in-australia-and-new-zealand-paul-henry

ITEM #1: Defending children against eroticised adult culture

The time has come for parents to take on the culture of sexualisation of young children. ...Who could have predicted even a decade ago that one of the pressing issues facing parents and psychologists in this century would be the marketing of adult sexuality to young children?

ITEM #2: How Pornography and Drugs Change Your Brain

While we must continue to fight the good fight legally and societally, we are way beyond avoidance as our only defense. Pornography wants you, it wants your husband or wife, it wants your son and daughter, your grandchildren, and your in-laws. It doesn't share well, and it doesn't leave easily. It is a cruel master, and seeks more slaves.

ITEM #3: Sex, Lies And Videotape

After any suicide, the survivors search their souls for its meaning and what they might have done to prevent it. The recent tragedy of a young man diving off the George Washington Bridge after his roommate posted a sexual video of him is no exception. Advocates of greater acceptance of same sex sexual activity have seized upon this case as ammunition for their cause. But I believe viewing this incident through a wider lens will benefit young people generally, not just those who experience same sex attraction. For the last 40 years, adult society has steadily pummeled young people with the message that "sex is no big deal." This case proves once and for all, that this claim is false. Adult society should stop sending this message, in all its forms.

ITEM #4: Only Half Of Belgium’s Euthanasia Cases Are Reported

Only half of all euthanasia cases inBelgium are reported, according to a study in the BMJ. Euthanasia has been legal since 2002 and three biennial reports have been published about allreported cases of euthanasia. No cases of abuse have ever been found. However, Belgian academics wondered whether there might be abuses in unreported cases. There were.

ITEM #5: HIV/AIDS Status Grim In Australia: Experts

Reports show that most Australians are complacent about getting AIDS. They feel that unless a person is homosexual or an injecting drug user or a sex worker, they are not at risk.

ITEM #10: Archbishop criticizes United Nations for failing to respect life

Archbishop Hector Aguer of La Plata, Argentina has criticized the United Nations for spreading ideologies that fail to respect fundamental human rights and the family.

In his weekly television program, "Keys to a Better World," Archbishop Aguer pointed to the cultural changes that are taking place in Argentina through laws put forth by the self-proclaimed "progressive" minority. One such change took place in July, when the country legalized same-sex "marriage." The archbishop said these ideas are part of a global plan that is based at "the United Nations and a series of its satellite organizations."

ITEM #11: Brazilian cardinal: abortion is not a right

The cardinal explained in his article that "There are also those who claim this is a human right." However, he asked, is "taking the lives of innocent and defenseless human beings a human right?"

Responding to the argument that a woman has a right to do what she wants with her body, Cardinal Scherer said, "The baby a woman carries in her womb is not part of her body, but it is another body, different from hers." "Women received their nature from God: the beauty and gratifying mission of conceiving and welcoming human life, of making it live in the world, of supporting and protecting this fragile and beautiful life," he continued.

ITEM #12: Contraception: The Bitter Pill

Each month, to test our courage, my wife Lisa and I stand before an auditorium full of couples about to marry in the Catholic Church and explain to them the Church's teachings about sexuality. The crowd is generally not happy to be there. Many are not Catholic and few, needless to say, want to hear what the Church has to say about sex and contraception. They've heard it already on the afternoon talk shows from renegade nuns.

The challenge is to put the cultural coordinates back to where they were seventy years ago. Until 1930, not only did every Christian denomination teach that contraception is wrong, but even the mainstream of media and politics did not approve of it. What we have to do is persuade them that getting rid of their pills and diaphragms will actually make them happier.
