Democratic Ad: Catholic Church More Concerned About Abortion Than Poor
St. paul, MN (LifeNews.com) -- A campaign postcard the Minnesota Democratic Party sent to voters in the Midwestern state is causing a strong reaction from pro-life advocates. It claims the Catholic Church is more concerned with abortion than helping the poor. The postcard features a large photo of a older but faceless Catholic priest holding a Bible and wearing the clearly-seen Roman Catholic collar.

The priest sports a campaign button in a red, white and blue motif with the words, Ignore the Poor.

The ad, in the estimation of National Catholic Register writer Matt Archbold is blatantly anti-Catholic and meant to tell voters the Catholic Church is more concerned about abortion than the plight of the poor.

Sometimes there s a little subtlety to anti-Catholic political rhetoric but not this time. This is in your face anti-Catholicism, he said. It s anti-Catholicism is not one point of many. It s the point.

But this postcard has nothing to do with the poor. What this is about is the fact that the Church stands strong against abortion and gay marriage. And that makes some very angry, he explained. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood President: Fewer People Saves Government Money
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The president of Planned Parenthood appeared on the Bill Press radio show today with an unconventional way for the government to say money.

By sending more taxpayer dollars to the abortion business to pay for birth control, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards contends the government would save money in the long run because fewer people would be born.
Presumably, Richards believes the more people who are born the more people will need the support of government programs and services ignoring the contribution people make to society.

I think it s important, Bill, to understand that unlike some other issues of cost, birth control is one of those issues that actually saves the government money, said Richards, according to Lifesite. So an investment in covering birth control actually in the long run is a huge cost savings because women don t have children that they weren t planning on having and all the sort of attendant cost for unplanned pregnancy.

So we actually feel that covering birth control is not only it s the right thing to do for women, it s good for women it s good for their health care, but it s frankly good public policy, Richards added.

The abortion business president appeared on the program to tout its campaign to lobby the Obama administration to call birth control preventative care and qualify itself for millions more in taxpayer funds from the federal government. Full story at LifeNews.com

New Video Explains How ObamaCare Allows Abortion Funding
Washignton, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new video released by the Population Research Institute makes the case for voters on how the ObamaCare health care reform legislation allowed abortion funding.

The video, entitled ObamaCare: The Facts On Abortion, is available to watch on YouTube and PRI says it relies heavily on legal research done by the National Right to Life Committee.

The research details the many ways that ObamaCare will lead to expanded abortion coverage across the nation.

Since NRLC s research is some of the most comprehensive and reliable in the country, the accuracy and detail of PRI s video would have been impossible without it. We believe that, at the time of this writing, we are the first group to use this information specifically to fuel a YouTube video on this most important of issues, the group said in a statement today.

PRI uses YouTube s annotation system to insert a series of digital footnotes into the video to provide documentation for the abortion-funding assertions. Full story at LifeNews.com

Adult Stem Cell Research Far Ahead of Embryonic
by David Prentice
The media have rarely reported on the multitude of successes with adult stem cells in the past, preferring to focus on unethical, unsuccessful embryonic stem cells. So it was heartening to see Malcolm Ritter and the Associated Press put out a story that highlights some of the real successes and promise of adult stem cells, as opposed to the wishful thinking and hype of embryonic stem cells.

The lead story is Dr. Thomas Einhorn at Boston University Medical Center, injecting a patient s bone marrow into a broken ankle that wouldn t heal; four months later the ankle was healed.

Einhorn, chairman of orthopedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center, credits adult stem cells in the marrow injection. He tried it because of published research from France.

As the AP piece notes, it s an example of many innovative therapies doctors are studying with adult stem cells; stem cells taken from body tissue and umbilical cord blood, not embryos. Full story at LifeNews.com

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Gets Pro-Life Nod for Re-Election
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has been a pro-life champion as governor and deserves to be re-elected to the position so she can continue protecting women and unborn children in the state.

That s the message from the Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life women s organization working to ensure more pro-life women are elected to state and federal offices.

The SBA List is proud to endorse Jan Brewer in her bid for re-election, said SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement LifeNews.com received.

As Governor, Jan has signed legislation into law which protects families and taxpayers across Arizona. From protecting young girls by strengthening parental rights laws, to shielding Arizona taxpayers from funding abortion, Jan Brewer is a tested and proven pro-life advocate we can trust, she said. West Virginia Senate Still Tossup Between Raese, Manchin
The West Virginia Senate race continues as one of the closest elections in the country as pro-life candidate John Raese takes on Governor Joe Manchin, who is pro-life but endorsed the pro-abortion ObamaCare bill.

A new Fox News poll of likely voters continues the trend of new polls showing Raese leading as it has him with 8 percent of the vote, the same as the two previous Fox News polls.

However, the survey shows Manchin gaining ground, as Democrats who were undecided appear to be moving his direction. he now receives the support of 46 percent of West Virginia voters compared with the 43 percent he had at the beginning of the month.

The race continues as a referendum on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, who is unpopular in the state with a low 28 percent approval rating. Manchin is seen as close to the governor and West Virginia voters are looking for change this time away from Obama and the Democrats who control Congress. Full story at LifeNews.com

Kentucky: Pro-Life Rand Paul Pulling Ahead of Pro-Abortion Jack Conway
Two new polls show pro-life Senate candidate Rand Paul pulling ahead of pro-abortion candidate Jack Conway in what is one of the top 10 races in the nation that could determine who controls the chamber.

An ad questioning Paul s Christian faith the Aqua Buddha ad that has drawn so much attention in the state appears to have backfired.

A new Fox News survey shows likely voters giving Paul a 50-43 percentage point lead and it also shows voters personally displeased with Conway. Full story at LifeNews.com

Alaska Pro-Life Group Endorses Joe Miller Over Pro-Abortion Lisa Murkowski
An Alaska pro-life group has issued an endorsement for Republican Senate nominee Joe Miller in his campaign against pro-abortion Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who is running a write-in bid.

In the end, it comes down to the dignity of human beings each created in God s image, says Alaska Family Action board chairman Dave Bronson said in an email to LifeNews.com.

Senate candidates Joe Miller, Lisa Murkowski and Scott McAdams have provided clear direction as to how they would lead on the defining moral issue of
our day the sanctity of human life, he added.

The organization feels so strongly about the differences between Miller and Murkowski on abortion that this is the first time AFA has issued an endorsement for any candidate for any office. Full story at LifeNews.com

Mississippi Abortion-Personhood Amendment Wins Court Case
A Mississippi court has ruled that voters in the southern state should have a chance to consider whether to approve a personhood amendment that would have the effect of banning abortions.

Mississippi will become the second state, following votes in 2008 and this year in Colorado, to consider the personhood amendment. That is if the decision is upheld by the state s highest court

Circuit Court Judge Malcolm Harrison issued a decision today saying the amendment can be placed before voters and the constitution recognizes the right of citizens to amend their constitution.

The initiative has received more than the required amount of signatures to be placed on the ballot, he added.

The case is expected to be appealed to the state Supreme Court by those who say the amendment can t be used to change the Bill of Rights, which bringers of the lawsuit said it would do. Full story at LifeNews.com

Michigan Union Opposes Removing Abortion Coverage From Employee Health Plan
Kent county officials voted to remove abortion coverage from the taxpayer-funded health care plan county employees receive, but a union is now saying it opposes the move and will try to stop it.

In September, the Kent County Commission voted 9-0 to remove abortion coverage from the county health insurance plans.

The vote makes a formal request of County Administrator Daryl Delabbio to remove abortion coverage from the health insurance plans which cover Kent County employees.

The commission instructed Delabbio to contact the county s 13 labor unions to see if they will be willing to voluntarily drop the benefit. If they agree to do so, Delabbio is directed to negotiate the removal of the abortion coverage during the next county employee contract negotiation.

However, Human Resources Director Don Clack told the Grand Rapids News today that he s not heard back from many of the unions but has received negative responses from the ones giving him input thus far. Full story at LifeNews.com
