Abby Johnson and Shawn CarneyRelated news:On October 5, the Life Issues Institute awarded their Hero at Heart Award to Abby Johnson, the former director of a Texas Planned Parenthood abortion facility. The Hero at Heart Award recognizes select individuals who demonstrate outstanding courage or compassion on behalf of innocent human life.
Johnson quit her job with Planned Parenthood a year ago and went directly to the office for the Coalition for Life in Bryan/College Station, Texas after she assisted in an abortion by holding an ultrasound wand.
Shawn Carney, Executive Director for Coalition for Life, found her in his office crying.
�We had been on opposite sides of the fence for years and at that moment we found ourselves together � her crying and me trying to grasp what the Holy Spirit was unraveling before my eyes,� Carney said. �To see Abby Johnson, the regional Planned Parenthood affiliate�s employee of the year, in my office � in tears � was � a miracle!�
Carney attributed Johnson's conversion to the 40 Days for Life campaign that had been going on at the clinic. �We know of 37 abortion center employees � including Abby � who have left their jobs during 40 Days for Life campaigns,� he said. �This is truly a testimony of what God can � and WILL � do in answer to prayer.�
According to Johnson, seeing the actual abortion for the first time caused her change of heart and mind. �(She) was overcome by the reality of what actually happens during an abortion. She knew she was watching a helpless human being die. And she also knew immediately she could NEVER do it again,� Carney explained. �She admitted it felt better to be on our side of the fence!
Speaking in front of the same abortion clinic just a few months after resigning, Johnson remembered all the times that employees would �party� while pro-life supporters prayed outside of the clinic. �I have to believe that every time I heard (pro-lifers) speak the message of Christ and speak on the message of life, God was using that opportunity to penetrate my heart as well.� She encouraged the crowd to pray for everyone at the clinic, especially the volunteers and doctors who support and perform abortions.
In giving the award, Life Issues Institute stated, �Abby Johnson has clearly demonstrated pro-life courage. Abby had the courage to reject pro-abortion rhetoric, resign from her job and publicly take a stand on behalf of women and their unborn babies. �
Johnson's message to the abortion facility in Texas: �We're not going away.�
Prayer works! Keep praying for the conversion of pro-aborts especially Obama. God will sooner or later touch their hearts with the truth. We all have a free will. Let's hope they respond positively to God's grace and convert!
