Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Abortion is a greater threat to Europe than 'Islamic Terrorism'. Legal abortion is "the single most grievous moral deficit in contemporary life" and its proliferation will exact an as yet unknown social price for the countries that have adopted it, said Lord Nicholas Windsor, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, this month.

Lord_kent-240x156

"The granting to ourselves the right wantonly to kill, each year, millions of our offspring at the beginning of their lives: This is the question of questions for Europe," he said. "The practice of abortion is a mortal wound in Europe's heart, in the center of Hellenic and Judeo-Christian culture." With legal abortion all but ubiquitous, Lord Windsor wrote in the U.S. religious journal First Things, mothers have the power of the emperor over the lives of their children: "Caesar's thumb is up, or Caesar's thumb is down. And when it comes to exporting this idea, we do it with zeal and determination through such institutions as the United Nations and the European Union."

He asks what the ultimate cost to a society that has "placed this fearful act at its center - consciously approving, even celebrating, its own most egregious moral failing." The great irony, he said, is that Europe's highly "rights" conscious political and social atmosphere "is in favor of one of the gravest and most egregious abuses of human rights that human society has ever tolerated." "Didn't Europeans think they could never and must never kill again on an industrial scale?"

Lord Windsor points to the reduction of poverty in the 1st world, the growth of women's and minority rights, the end of colonialism and the relatively peaceful end to the Cold War, but says the threat of abortion has "taken us unawares" and overshadowed these accomplishments. Even the threat of Islamist terrorism does not qualify as so deep an "existential" threat as abortion.

"All else that we concern ourselves with in the lives of human beings derives from the inescapable fact that first we have human lives with which to concern ourselves." In disregarding the right of the unborn to be born, he said, "humanity's deepest instincts are trampled and shattered." Windsor also compared abortion to slavery as a great moral and social evil that calls for a "new abolitionism for Europe" before it is too late. (Hilary White 12-20-2010)

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(A Thought) "What happens to the mind of a person, and the moral fabric of a nation, that accepts the aborting of the life of a baby without a pang of conscience? What kind of a person and what kind of a society will we have 20 years hence if life can be taken so casually? It is that question, the question of our attitude, our value system, and our mind-set with regard to the nature and worth of life itself that is the central question confronting mankind. Failure to answer that question affirmatively may leave us with a hell right here on earth."

(Focus on Asia): "Planned Parent-Hood – Still Racist Today?" - According to the Guttmacher Institute, black women are 5 times more likely than white women to have an abortion. Since Roe v Wade, 10% of the white race has been wiped out, but 28% of the black race has been wiped out. The black community makes up only 12% of the American population, but they have 36% of all the abortions–so black babies are dying more than 3x as fast! By 2008, close to 14,000,000 black babies have been killed by abortion.

ITEM #1: AP IMPACT: Past medical testing on humans revealed

Shocking as it may seem, U.S. government doctors once thought it was fine to experiment on disabled people and prison inmates. Such experiments included giving hepatitis to mental patients in Connecticut, squirting a pandemic flu virus up the noses of prisoners in Maryland, and injecting cancer cells into chronically ill people at a New York hospital.

****************************************

ITEM #2: Pope: 'Abortion Resolves Nothing, Rather It Kills The Child, Destroys The Woman'

Pope Benedict XVI addressed the Pontifical Academy for Life Saturday saying, "doctors are called to show particular fortitude in continuing to affirm that abortion resolves nothing; rather it kills the child, destroys the woman and blinds the conscience of the child's father, often devastating family life."

ITEM #3: Baby Number Seven Billion Not an Overpopulation Concern

Sometime late this year a baby will emerge from the womb of its mother, draw its first breath, and announce its arrival into the world with a tiny cry. Thus will Baby Seven Billion be born. Everyone agrees that Baby Seven Billion's birthday - the day that our planet becomes home to seven billion human beings - marks an important milestone. But is it a milestone on humanity's upward path that we should celebrate, or a warning sign of impending catastrophe?

ITEM #4: Surrogate baby ring busted in Bangkok

Bangkok police have uncovered a baby-breeding racket based in Taiwan using at least 14 surrogate mothers from Vietnam. One woman was in hospital delivering her baby and 13 had been locked up in two houses and their passports had been confiscated. "Nine of the women said they had volunteered to work because they were told they would earn $5,000 for each baby.

ITEM #5: Down with Gene Tyranny!

The idea of using genetic engineering to enhance human beings scares a lot of people. For example, at a 2006 meeting called by the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, Richard Hayes, the executive director of the left-leaning Center for Bioethics and Society, testified that "enhancement technologies would quickly be adopted by the most privileged, with the clear intent of widening the divisions that separate them and their progeny from the rest of the human species." Deploying such enhancement technologies would "deepen genetic and biological inequality among individuals," exacerbating "tendencies towards xenophobia, racism and warfare."

ITEM #6: France's first "saviour sibling" sparks debate about ethics of biotechnology

An embryo was screened and genetically selected from a group of 12 embryos. It was picked to ensure it did not carry the Beta thalassemia gene, but also based on its compatibility with the sick siblings. Aside from selecting an offspring that would be spared from disorder, the parents hoped the baby would become a donor of the right kind of treatment cells.

ITEM #7 Experts argue new study shows Americans are optimistic about marriage

Citing additional figures from the Pew study, Donovan said that in fact, most single young people who were evaluated expressed a desire to get married. "The vast majority of the rising generation expects to marry someday – 85 percent or more will do so." ... "Young people want to get married and stay married," Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse remarked in a phone interview with CNA on Nov. 19, adding that the problem in our current divorce-ridden society is that many are unsure how to effectively go about this.

ITEM #8: "Schools need to teach about orgasms" says NEA to UN

Graphic sex education for youth is the new battleground at the UN, as evidenced by side events during the past week at the Commission on the Status of Women.

****************************************

ITEM #9: European Court Could Rule Traditional Marriage Benefits Are Discriminatory

Legal experts warn that a European court is on the verge of deciding that Germany's privileged legal status for traditional marriage violates European Union law.

****************************************

ITEM #10: India government says no to mercy killing plea

"We do not lead our terminally ill parents or kids to death. Who decides if one should live or die? Who knows: tomorrow there might be a cure to a medical state perceived as incurable today. And won't leading the terminally ill impede pro-life medical research?" argued the chief legal officer of the federal government.

****************************************

ITEM #11: Trafficking on the rise in Nepal

Economic woes are boosting trafficking of human beings in Nepal. Rising inflation, low economic growth and conflict within political parties has led to an increase in the number of women, boys and girls and men being trafficked for multiple forms of exploitation.

****************************************

ITEM #12: 'New Age' is old Gnosticism

[Note: I am relieved to see the use of the term "old" in the title of the article, designating the ancient gnostic dogmas and myths upon which the more familiar post-Christian gnostic heresies were later based (e.g., the ancient "philosophers" such as the Orphics, Thales, Anaximenes, Anaximander, Heraclitus, Pythagoras, Parmenides, Pherecydes, even Plato!). Today these ancient gnostic myths are more favored. Gnosticism is very anti-Catholic, anti-Christian, and anti-Jewish, and it's dogmas contradict most of the teachings of the Church, albeit sometimes so gently and sweetly. Other times it is done quite violently. Few also realize that ancient gnostic myths are the historical sources of what are assumed to be "modern" theories of population control, eugenics, etc. I recommend the Vatican document mentioned at the end of this article: "Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life; A Christian reflectionon the 'New Age'". See also Irving, "GNOSTICISM, the Heretical Gnostic Writings, and 'Judas'" (April 9, 2006); see also Irving, "PLATO'S "ROYAL LIES": State Authorized Eugenics, Communism, Utilitarianism, Euthanasia, Physician Assisted Suicide, "Mother Earth" Myth, Day Care Nurseries, Women in the Military, and Population Control" (August 3, 2004); see also Irving, "'Gnostic Soup': Pagan fertility gods, IVF, Hollywood, cloning/genetic engineering, bioethics, transhumanism, libertarians, drugs, eugenics, etc." (Nov. 7, 2005). -- Dianne N. Irving, Ph.D.]]
